Yeh, if we don't have a couple of free agents in mind we're going to need to load up in this years draft
Any other mids from the Wafl we may be interested in?
Schloithe?
Nelson?
Bolton? ( remember posters wanting is to grab him last year)

Main & Kelly I'd like in the main draft. Kelly probably at our third rounder if he's not gone. Main we could get in the 5th probably.

Haven't seen enough of Banfield to comment but perhaps the rookie draft. If we cut deep there's no reason why we can't get all three considering they are 23, 22 and 19 respectively.

I have seen a bit of Banfield and I was surprised he wasn't drafted last year. Since then he has played seniors for Claremont and is one of their best. Great attitude and puts in at game day and training. A classic blue collar inside mid with decent everything. Consistently gets a 25 plus possessions and does something with them. I think he is better than Parto.

Does anyone know why we weren't interested in Jeff Garlett?

Because he wanted to stay in Melbourne and was not interested in returning to WA.
He wanted out of Carlton not the city of Melbourne.

Id like to see other sides list of mids past 5.

Yes you need depth to cover injuries but we need is defensive pace across half forward and the midfield so our pressure can actually affect the contest. Running in slow motion 10m off the play as we have seen is a fatal floor.

We add a SPP type with pick 10 plus Venebles plus more pace inside 50 and off the bench we have the ingredients to build on.
our best 5 mids

●Shuey - gun
●Gaff - very outside without clean hands in close
●Sheed - great young ball winner with great kick but slow
●Yeo - great HBF but still not proven mid more than bursts
● redden - B grader at best

next in line - hutch jetta Duggan Partington Mutimer masten .

it's a pretty poor list and not one than will get it done week in week out .
We have a good forward line and great defence but our glaring deficiency in mids .

We don't need matera or mcgovern

Just Mids Mids Mids

I would add Naitanui to the top 5 list and also hopefully Venables features in our best 22 next year.

Fingers crossed we add another first rounder that will be pushing into best 22 by the back half of the year next year

Maybe a free agent but it is slim pickings left

We need a Kennedy replacement - unfortunately that would take a top 5 pick in the draft..
McGovern has got a bright future however, i do like him.

I would throw a bit of spare cash to get a gun inside midfielder though, and i think we are gearing up to do that.
Not sure Kelly is the answer.
A Coniglio or a Shiels would be better, but we can dream on

A couple of exra 3rd round picks and we wouldn't need the rookie draft.
I am with you on this one.Would be better bet then a younger player as a third round pick.We can't rely on parto venables and a first round pick midfielder.May need a free agent and a mature age midfielder from the state comps. We need speed and Tim Kelly has that.

Yes we do need Mids with a bit of speed & nous, but as well as this for all areas of the ground the saying goes "one for today and one for tomorrow". When selecting players in the draft, you don't know until 2-3 years down the track as to whether you've made the right choice. It's like buying a pig in a poke!

Don't know if there's any truth to this but on 6PR this morning heard that Mitch McGovern no longer wants to come to WCE due to our lack of culture so it looks like if he's going anywhere here in the West, it's to Freo. Of course Hagdorn & Hardie could be talking out of their a*s?

Sounds like BS to me. If he does end up coming back to WA (unlikely) he will play with his brother at WC.

I suppose a losing culture is still a culture, right?

What culture has Freo got exactly?

Not overly fussed with Mitch, great if we land him for a 2nd rounder but if not we move on.

If we are classing natanui as a mid he is a shit one . His taps are fantastic but his work around the ground has always been poor . remember when it took him 10 rounds to take a mark

Yet you could make an argument for his contested work. There's no ruck in the comp that's as good as him at stoppages and his second efforts mean we lock the ball in for a repeat stoppage.

Hi guys,

Trade proposal for you blokes.

Any consideration to do what you guys did with Collingwood with us, but in reverse?

Freo out pick 5 and 41
Eagles out pick 10, 28 and 46

This is based on us finishing 14th and you guys 8th.

Reasons - Firstly, we need a 2nd rounder to possibly land McGovern + we may seek a WA boy with a later first rounder like Naughton or Allen (hopefully they fall to 10, but one of them would be available)

+ves for you guys? Obviously pick up a top 5 mid... that's about it.

Any merit? Or do you think the difference between 5 and 10 isn't significant enough to warrant essentially losing a 2nd rounder.

I would prefer not to loose our second .
Also I don't think there is much difference between 5 and 10 this year
I also don't want to trade with freo
