Trade proposal for you blokes.

Any consideration to do what you guys did with Collingwood with us, but in reverse?

Freo out pick 5 and 41
Eagles out pick 10, 28 and 46

This is based on us finishing 14th and you guys 8th.

Reasons - Firstly, we need a 2nd rounder to possibly land McGovern + we may seek a WA boy with a later first rounder like Naughton or Allen (hopefully they fall to 10, but one of them would be available)

+ves for you guys? Obviously pick up a top 5 mid... that's about it.

Any merit? Or do you think the difference between 5 and 10 isn't significant enough to warrant essentially losing a 2nd rounder.

Cobbler I think that its one of the better suggested trade and your premise is sound.
However the difference in what we would get, this year, at 5 verses 10 would not warrant going into the draft without a second round pick and the 41 for 46 is a non issues as around that juncture in the draft its pretty even.

So in assessing the value of a upgrade in this years draft, which has a real evenness to it from 5-12, is IMO not worth the trade.

I would not even consider addressing either of those needs before we sure up some midfield stocks.
If we don't urgently improve our midfield we will languish at "Richmond Levels" of mid table range mediocrity for the sustained future.

We have already drafted a handful of midfielders which are now developing. We have a lot more young mids on the list than young key forwards.

No, we have also drafted genuine mids which are currently developing (Sheed, Mutimer, Venners and Parto). In 2-3 years time our midfield will look very different, so it's time to start building the list accordingly.

Isn't hunter Clarke a half back flanker?

He can play in that position although he is better suited in the midfield.
Can play HBF, HFF and in the midfield as either an extracting inside mid or a speedy outside runner.

Last week he played in the midfield for The Stingrays and gathered 34 disposals of which 20 where contested possessions, 11 clearances, 10 inside 50's, 7 tackles and 1 goal.
Whilst I haven't yet spoken with my mates in Melbourne to get all the exacts, never the less yesterday he was named as the Stingrays best and kicked 2 goals.

I make no secret of the fact that Hunter Clark is my favourite player in this years draft as I see the most upside in his game, he already plays well but I believe there is so much more that I believe he is capable of .

Come draft night if we read his name out I would be very happy ,its not as if we have an abundance of inside mids that win contested possessions and get lots of clearances . The kid has very good pace , runs the lines with his spread and carry as he bounces the ball down the wing or centre corridor. Plus he is as tough as and likes the contest.

Mutimer is a long shot to be anything more than depth, Sheed is good but not A-grade and lacks pace, Venables might be good but we don't know yet, Partington projects to be a b grader at best. Still short top tier mid or two in my mind and that's if all those guys develop to their full potential which is no guarantee with our track record.

Jandamarra I don't buy the quantity argument of our potential mids , what we are missing is quality in our developing mids.

We desperatlely need two kids that are tracking to be A graders to be found and developed within the next two seasons.

I don't disagree with you regarding the need to develop a Kennedy replacement , however this years draft is not the year to be spending our first round pick on one as the quality that will be available at out pick just does not IMO warrant using this years first on a KPF. I would rather take a KPD with our second and convert McGovern to a KPF than blow a top 10 pick purely on a needs based decision rather than the combination of needs and best available player.

I agree, with your assessment of those players. We do need to keep drafting midfielders but we must also keep in mind that Kennedy is approaching the end of his career, our depth in that area is seriously lacking, and developing KPF takes a lot of time.

For developing a KPF short of Oscar Allen dropping to our second rounder ( highly unlikely ) we could look at Nathan Kruger,Toby Wooler with a second rounder or pick up , a Tom De Koning ,Hayden McLean or Ben Miller with our fourth.

The only KPP that I would consider with a top 10 pick in this years cohort is Jarrod Brander and the likely hood of him being passed up by both Collingwood or Fremantle is remote.......having said that The Purples do like drafting mids rather than tall's.

Given the right tutelage (who better than Kennedy) I actually think he could be a good player.

No one will actually replace Kennedy however as he's a generational player.

Not the worst suggestion , however we would need to trade with Fremantle and recent history suggests that both Clubs are loathe to trade with each other.

Not overly fussed with Mitch, great if we land him for a 2nd rounder but if not we move on.

For some reason with Ross at the helm, who is considered by some to still be one of the top coaches in the League, could be the reason? A good coach at the helm will get some players in, and bear in mind at this stage it appears Freo are ahead of us in the development of the younger players.

If people rated priddis A - grade, then there's no doubt sheed can be an a-grader. Sheeds got a more balanced game, has close to elite skills on both sides of his body, has better vision and hits the scoreboard. That makes him a much more dangerous player than priddis. He'd be an A-grader if he can turn him self into a high possession accumulator.

Yeah Sheed's got a wider range of skills than Priddis. The question is whether or not he will be able to become the absolute extractor and tackling machine Pridda has been for us.
