Why? They'd only just play him in the WAFL the entire season then blame the WAFL for fixture conflicts

We need contested ball beasts with power and pace - not easy to find, but we need to search high and low for them.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. The Eagles knew about him as did other clubs. 100% we could have had him has a rookie but we didnt. Did a Google and found this:

http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnew...-draft-rankings/2009/09/29/1253989912728.html

Are you saying we knew nothing about him and therefore there was no possibility of drafting him as a rookie? Or trying to just argue for no reason?
Great article, explains most of it. If you read the rest of it you'll understand why he wasn't drafted before the 2009 WAFL season.

For the first time I am starting to settle on a favourite for our first pick and it has to be Nick Coffield. Got a bad feeling he could bolt into the top 2-3 though, or even go to the Purps at 5.

We need to stock up on young talent through the middle and cut lots of the deadweight on our list. Coniglio is one and as mentioned above Acres is another. We should be offering others elsewhere too. New stadium and new facilities on the way should be enticing and also with plenty of cash in the bank from a few retirements/pending delistings we should have the money to shop around. Surely not many clubs could offer better than playing in front of 50-60k every week at a brand new stadium with world class facilities around the corner. We can only hope.

No Mcgovern mentioned in that link.
I know. People previously were saying one of the reasons for McGov junior for wanting to go to Freo was the way Priddis was treated and that McGov senior was also upset about it and wanted to go to Freo and "it was a done deal". Which of course I don't believe. My point was if Priddis himself hasn't spat the dummy, I am not sure others would have.

Anyone know why we're not in the conversation regarding Hopper from GWS?
If Adelaide is interested, why aren't we?

I know that this opinion isn't the mainstream opinion on here at the moment but I really don't think our list is as terrible as people think and that with some good list management and development in 2 to 3 years we could challenge before Kennedy retires.

We have very capable KP players but our ruck division was decimated this year and our midfield suffered from that and also carrying older / slower players. How many ruck frees did we give away yesterday? Too many. We need to address the ruck and midfield both for the short and longer term.

Rucks

I'm sure a lot of people on here will think we don't need to do anything here as Naitanui and Lycett will come back next year and our problems are solved. That is a high risk assumption and one I would not make. Players coming back from knee recos take time, Lycett seems to be made of twigs, Vardy is a forward / ruck and that's it. We cannot however use our first rounders this year or next on rucks. So what are the other options?

  1. We trade a quality player for a ruck - possible but we need to pick mids.
  2. We buy a quality ruck as a FA - not possible as there are none
  3. We buy another ruck who is under contract but out of favour / overpaid ATM - possible.
  4. We take a punt on a semi mature ruck who isn't getting a game (like a Stefan Martin deal) - bit of a raffle really. Cox at Pies, Lobbe at Port?
Thoughts?

It's pretty apparent we have cash to burn in the salary cap and not enough picks to go around to rebuild our list. I really hope we try and trade on masten/Mackenzie/schofield for late picks this year and try top up our list with a free agent.

It has to happen. We've been way too generous to our senior players for too long. List management team needs a massive shake up.

Not sure why "it has to be Coffield" He needs to be playing consistently well as a midfielder to convince me that he is our man.
We have a long list of HBF and before we spend a first rounder on another one I need to be convinced that he is up to the standard as a mid. He does however have time on his side , for the rest of the TAC Cup season to show his midfield adaptability but as of now it still a ? for me.
We took a HFF / MID last year and we desperately need a genuine inside mid. At this juncture I would be leaning towards Higgins with our first.
