I really don't think (or want) Shred to become Priddis - I think he's primed to be very similar to Simon Black, a bloke who does a lot of things very well with minimal fuss.
We need someone to win contested ball. That's my point.

Lets have a hard look at some Gold Coast players, clubs going nowhere and those who have stayed expecting success may be tempted with a bit of coin and strong club. Swallow *cough *cough .
A few young stars Martin, Kolodjashnij, are non vics who could be tempted to switch coasts

We'll be getting NN and Lycett back, and I think Shuey, Sheed and Redden can and will win plenty of contested ball. People seem to forget how good NN was with contested possessions. I think Shuey's injury is the biggest issue for us atm.

I'd keep Snadden on the list for another year. He seems to be developing well, and look what happened to Main after we delisted him? He started performing in the WAFL and people are suggesting we re-draft him. If we give Snadden another year (who is showing more than Main at the same age/time on the list) think about what he could be capable of as a full time mid next year for the Royals. Throw in Rotham as a winger instead of a third defensive tall and we could have some good talent developing on the list in 2018 on top of who we draft.
Do we really need tagger depth though?

Monocle

I`ve noticed that Banfield hasn`t been invited to the Draft Combine or even the State Combine , is there any reasoning why ?

Not to many over agers get an invite to the Combine and the state screening is Clubs just playing Ducks and Drakes.

Was talking with a Claremont Official who is very much in the know on the weekend and there is plenty of interest in Banners, as of last weekend he has had five Clubs come interview him.
West Coast are on Club that have shown an interest him, he met with Essendon last week and St Kilda the week before , I don't know who the other two Clubs are that have shown interest.

Also heard from one of my mates in the recruiting dept at a Northern States Club that they had been monitoring him closely all season and rate him highly.
I will be very surprised if he doesn't get drafted come November.

It still pisses me off big time that we wasted a rookie pick on Gorter, a third tall /flanker, last year when we could have taken a player who plays in a position we are short on in Banners.

NN was our best contested mid. His handball from congestion for Kerr like

Absolute incompetence

As you well know Godfather32 I am not a fan of O'Brien and his team, now I know its only one year down the track but last years haul has contributed "diddly squat' to our 2017 effort on the playing field..

First Rounder : Venables 0 Games.
Second Round : Rotham 0 Games.
Third Round : Rioli 0 Games.
Fourth Round : Waterman 0 Games.

Rookie Pick : Gorter 0 games.

When you look at the players taken after the ones we took that have debuted this season our list is pretty depressing reading, whilst I know that injuries have extenuated our plight its still a sorry tale. Also you need to judge a draft three years after its been taken to more fully assess success or failure.

Now with out sounding and coming across like a complete smart arse  I took the following in the BF Mock Draft.

R 1. SPP. Port : 19 games enough said.
R 2. Brennan Cox. Fremantle : 2 games
R 3. Tom Williamson. Carlton : 12 games
R 3. Matched the bid for Waterman. 0 games.

I am a bloody amateur, for who following the draft cohort is a hobby, but when I compare the list that O'Brien and his additional seven paid professional recruiters delivered I think they should be delivering better value for money for the Club.
As I have said before this team knows how to spot and draft tall's at all points in the draft, but this recruiting team would not be able to spot a good midfielder if it bit them on the arse.

Do you think the whole recruitment team should go or do you think that it's mainly O'Brien that is at fault?

Good question and to be honest I am not close enough to the situation to be able to answer that question with any level of accuracy.

But its an area that should be heavily and urgently reviewed and critiqued by Football Operations.
Recruiting is such a vital and pivotal part of the fabric of a Clubs ability to improve that it should be treated as an issue of HIGH PRIORITY.

I can only hope that the Club thinks the same way.

I agree, the reality is that O'Brien has done a horrible job since he was promoted, we've blown so many picks, he needs to go

Would you trade Gov to Freo for the 1st pick plus something else ..?
I'd trade Gov for Lachie Neale, straight swap. Win-win for both clubs. I think it's a fair trade. We have a similar player to Gov in Barrass, and we get the contested bull we need.

I really hope Venables has a good pre-season and one of Duggan/Nelson/Cole can make it as a full time mid.

I 'm going to call it, Cole.

We need to unleash him next year to play a more proactive midfield role, even a high half forward /midfield role. It's good to teach them young about defense and he's got that covered but I want him to play more freely and attack.

We need to develop some attacking midfielders with some pace and hardness at the contest. Cole has that in spades.

That is one of the most silly posts I have read in a long while.

Neale is a midget. McGov is a KP beast. Freo would do themselves an injury signing up to that deal.

And it's a well know fact that less than 12 months on you know if your draft is a good one or not!!:cool:

Gotta spend money to make money. There's only a few guys on our list worth anything. We're not going to get an A-grade midfielder for Masten.

Neale is good but lacks hurt factor. Him and a first rounder is what will get em Gov.

Gov is more valuable then Neale forsure.
However it won't happen anyway, team's don't go after an a grader then offer up one of thier own a graders in return. It just doesn't happen... What's that saying, robbing Paul to pay pete.

Anyway gov not going anywhere... Please...
