Why would they trade him ? Does he want to come home?

He's only 22, they've poured 4 years of development into him, they'd be expecting a top 20 pick surely. if that rumour isn't completely baseless....
Remember he was dropped for disciplinary reasons and hasn't been picked since. Supporters saying something isnt right with Ali may be looking for a move home? I'd suggest if a club got in his ear with a decent pay upgrade he would move.

From the Swans board it sounds like Ali Alir could be gettable for a third round pick.

I would definatly jump at that with EMac possibly moving and Schofield not getting any younger or capable.
He actually looked an ok player. What happened to him over the last 18 months?

I never want to Jeremy McGovern in any other jumper bar a west coast one.
Don't get me wrong, nor do I. This is all a hypothetical. I was thinking about it in regard to the rumour that he wants to join Mitch at Freo. That could simply be a tactic used by Mitch's manager to get him more money at Adelaide. However, let's say he does land at Freo, then Jeremy says he wants to join him. I know Jeremy is a restricted free agent, so we can simply match any offer to keep him. However, what if we decided to grant him his wish instead, to get something decent in return? Would Neale plus a first rounder be enough?

As you well know Godfather32 I am not a fan of O'Brien and his team, now I know its only one year down the track but last years haul has contributed "diddly squat' to our 2017 effort on the playing field..

First Rounder : Venables 0 Games.
Second Round : Rotham 0 Games.
Third Round : Rioli 0 Games.
Fourth Round : Waterman 0 Games.

Rookie Pick : Gorter 0 games.

When you look at the players taken after the ones we took that have debuted this season our list is pretty depressing reading, whilst I know that injuries have extenuated our plight its still a sorry tale. Also you need to judge a draft three years after its been taken to more fully assess success or failure.

Now with out sounding and coming across like a complete smart arse  I took the following in the BF Mock Draft.

R 1. SPP. Port : 19 games enough said.
R 2. Brennan Cox. Fremantle : 2 games
R 3. Tom Williamson. Carlton : 12 games
R 3. Matched the bid for Waterman. 0 games.

I am a bloody amateur, for who following the draft cohort is a hobby, but when I compare the list that O'Brien and his additional seven paid professional recruiters delivered I think they should be delivering better value for money for the Club.
As I have said before this team knows how to spot and draft tall's at all points in the draft, but this recruiting team would not be able to spot a good midfielder if it bit them on the arse.

The more I have been looking back at our drafting over the last 5 years the more I want to see O'Brien fired.

I just see way too many misses on late first round picks onwards, which I think are critical picks. Getting value and building best 22 players and solid depth from later picks is critical to a successful list IMHO.

I know he played last week as a tagger, but he can play as an inside/outside mid in his own right.
Not much extended form in those roles though.

I'd have thought there would be better talent out there we could use that spot on.

We will see. The four players we took in the main draft are seriously talented. I'm happy with it.

With a big cleanout on the cards I wonder if the club could look to flip our pick 9(ish) into a couple of top 25 picks. Two picks in the top 20 would be pretty tempting given that KM reckons the draft evens out after the first 5 or so midfielders.

That being said it is pretty early to assess the depth of the draft, there are always bolters and sliders before the dust settles.

No one expects first year players to have an impact or even play. Judd & J.Selwood (Rhys Palmer :P) types are ready to go once in a generation players. SPP is a beast but im still fine with missing out seeing as PA aren't that much a better team with him in there. IMO Its a bonus if a 1st year player plays AFL

Yeh, I mean so far only 40 guys taken in the last draft have played, hardly any right?

2015
Second Round : Lamb 1 Game. Good thing he could make an impact year 1.

But seriously how many have made their teams better? Or for the matter played more than 3 games. Perhaps 8 or 9 and in the QLD thats not saying a lot these days. McGrath, Taranto, Hayward and SPP will be the only ones that play finals. Thats like 5% of draftees.

So you say and yet a team who have over the past decade and a half drafted exceptionally well , The Sydney Swans, still managed to have their first rounder Florent play 9 games and their second rounder Hayward play 14 games so far this season.

Lets be clear here, as last seasons runners up and a better performing team than ours, the recruiters at Sydney still managed to find two kids with instant impact in season one.

We used to be a Club that repeatedly drafted well, year after year, but that sadly was in an era to long a go.

Would be nice for our Club to acknowledge that our recruiters are not top shelf anymore and then having recognised the weakness go about acquiring some better recruiters and talent spotters.

First step to fixing a problem is to recognise that you have one.
Our Club is not as vibrant or as dynamic as it once was, as the trend of being slow and tardy to act or react on football matters has sadly crept into most facets of our Football Departments operations.

Now if we could just be as proficient on field as we are with the corporate fiscal side of the Clubs operations and administrations then we would once again be right up there as an on field power house.

One can only hope and dream that we some day ( sooner rather than latter ) return to our former glory, when the search for excellence was was a goal in all and every facet of our Football Clubs operations.

Just read Knightmare's top 20 prospects. Anyone else agree with him about Higgins lack of impact. Imo it not the type we need.
Worpol looks like a type we need.
I personally like Worpell but cannot see him as a 1st rounder. He is a real possibility at our 2nd.

Higgins - I see more to him than Knightmare - he is a smaller forward that consistently hits the scoreboard and will take his turn in the midfield. If we were just rating him on midfield minutes, I would not rate him as high but it is his forward work that I like and an area of need for us.

I 'm going to call it, Cole.

We need to unleash him next year to play a more proactive midfield role, even a high half forward /midfield role. It's good to teach them young about defense and he's got that covered but I want him to play more freely and attack.

We need to develop some attacking midfielders with some pace and hardness at the contest. Cole has that in spades.
A decent pre-season for Cole where he is part of the main training will be a significant step. He basically spent all the pre-season in rehab meaning he was not part of the skills and simulation work. I believe he will make it and half back flank is more like an introductory role and he should be able to more and more move his minutes into the midfield. He makes pretty good decisions with ball in hand and his kicking is good enough to indicate he can hit the scoreboard.

Wow - the Swans are pretty inclusive asking their board for guidance on what players trade value are. Must be part of the Leading Teams new model for decision making!

Hope the List Managers of oppositions are reading our comments as we would be prepared to let Schofield go for a second rounder and Masten for a third rounder.

And it's a well know fact that less than 12 months on you know if your draft is a good one or not!!:cool:
I have actually been watching Monocle picking in the mock and happy to share the BigFooty 2015 Mock then.

Monocle's first 5 picks have played 59 (including a GF) games and O'Brien's first 5 picks have played 12 games.

A sign some of the leading administrators/decision makers have been there too long - for mine.

From the outside (as a country member with no inside knowledge) the club's board seem to do a fantastic job from a corporate sense. Where we seem to be stalling is the football side of things - time for a real overhaul in this department (and I would leave Simmo in the seat too BTW) so we can truly support our coach and his team.

Like Monocle, recruitment has concerned me for too long - too many busts for an organisation that has prided itself on success for my liking.

Afl website trying to link us to lindsay thomas or hayden ballaytyne.

If we ever get those two players id stop supporting the club. Worst players i could think of to join an already fragile team.

I wanted Skinner in that draft too. Looks a player.

Wasn't Dunkley a FS to the Bullies though?

Monocle is still miles in front regardless but you can't consider pie in the sky stuff...

From memory, Dunkley could have been a father/son for the swans, but didn't want to leave Victoria.
