I wonder if Marcus Adams still wants to come over. He has a foot injury so might fit the bill? Add birchal and gov and I think our needs are addressed...

As said earlier, the account was found to be run by Mike Sheahan's son and he posts an enormous amount of crazy rumours that have almost never come to fruition. He is 99.99% making up the Birchall rumour.
My favorite bit was where Hawthorn want a 1st round draft pick for a 30 yr old with a busted knee.

a list spot for MArsden would be an ideal situation. Doubt it eventuates unless he actually wants to play AFL.

Really think keeping Schofield is silly. Will be putrid if sign him to one of those lengthy overpaid veteran retirement contracts we give out to players that have contributed to the club.

Fixed it for you mate.

I would seriously hope the fact that he plays for Adelaide and has a brother at WC would outweigh any kind of support for Freo.

If anything, we are doing him a favour so he doesn't have to wear purple.

hall is the mix of jetta and gaff we need . Has the pace of jetta but can rack up big numbers like gaff . Hall has averaged 500m+ gained per game over the last 2 years since being moved from a forward to a wing . Masten averages half that and jetta 150m less .
We need to get the ball inside 50 more and that's what hall does run and carry .
I wouldnt give up a first for him my trade proposed alone had his value about pick 20 after the pick swaps .
The trade also had the advantage of getting rid of masten
He wouldn't be the worst trade prospect, fair enough. We do also need more run, I just think we have a much more pressing need on the inside.

I wonder what Lycett is worth? I think he is a good ruckman but his injuries have been a big problem for the last few years and with Nic Nat coming back from a serious injury there is every chance it still might take a a year before he gets back to his best. If we were able to get something decent or work it in the M Gov trade then we should go for it.

With Scott jones being looked at in the combine he could be a handy replacement as he is 22 and has had some experience with our squad so he shouldn't take too long to develop. We can then keep Petrie as a backup to Jones and Nic Nat.

I'd be keen to trade Slyce. Love him as a player but his body is too unreliable IMO. He'll struggle to sustain the kind of momentum to get the best out of his rucking career. Ruckmen need to be set and forget otherwise we'll be playing the musical chairs game with part timers again like we have this year.

State combine

C Ameduri (EP )
L Baker (S)
J Boullineau (Peel)
R Burrows ( SF )
D Cramer (Peel)
P Farrant ( SD )
J Frampton ( SF )
S Jones ( EP )
Z Langdon ( C )
T Miller ( WP )
L Mitchell ( Peel )
G Narrier ( P)
C Ninyette ( P )
W Powell ( C )
A Redhead ( EP )
Z Roe ( P )
L Ryan ( S)
H Schlithe ( SF )
C Scott ( EF )
T Stewart ( SD )

Two clubs need to show an interest before players get an invite .
Scott Jones has a chance again , missed out in his draft year when U18 teammates Dom Sheed , P Cripps and Cam McCarthy were drafted after a broken leg wrecked his draft chances and has since battled a dislocated AC joint in 2015 and a broken bone in his foot last year .

Farrant and Burrows were surprise invites after playing only Colts this season .

Zareth Roe could be a smokey with his size and athletic ability as mid/forward .

Taryce Stewart should be a certainty as a small forward and the Eagles should invest .

It just sucks he got that injury before the season becasue this would have been the year he could have a clear run at it as the first ruck so when Nic Nat came back we would have two solid ruckman. He has the potential to be an awesome ruckman but i dunno... with the way our medical staff are he will just keep getting injured! So far he has had two knee issues, shoulder and groin injuries.

IF we are able to get a late second rounder for Masten ( Rosa netted us pick 31 and i think Masten is worth more + contracted) , a second rounder for Lycett + Delist/retire the following:

Giles - Has dodgy knees and is a good tap ruckman and thats it. Will need to pay out
Masten - Trade for second rounder
Lycett - Second rounder
Tunbridge - Injury Prone
Brophy - Already gone
Butler - Retire
Mitchell - Retrie
Priddis - Retire
Hill - Retire/Delist ( Depending if Lecra sticks around i would keep for one year as backup)

So far that is 9 changes and maybe 10-11 if we move on Lecra and Emac.

I would have thought the national recruitment manager would be heavily involved in the decision to recruit and the process of recruiting all of these older guys. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but his role as far as I know is to help decide on who to trade for and free agent targets as well as the drafting side of things - http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2017-07-19/meet-freos-talent-spotters.
I normally agree with most of your opinions but I just can't here, O'Brien has done a horrible job since 2011 both of drafting and trading for players and his use of the rookie list is beyond horrible.
Since he took over this is the list of players he's traded for:

Josh Hill (been ok)
Cripps (been ok)
Morton (dud)
Wellingham (1 good season otherwise dud)
Yeo (Great trade)
Giles (dud)
Jetta (largely been a dud)
Redden (may turn out ok)
Mitchell (no brainer but ultimately hasn't helped us at all)
Vardy (good depth)

And these are the players he's brought on to the rookie list from other teams:
Brad Dick (dud)
Tunbridge (dud)
Bennell (dud)
Lucas (dud)
Petrie (has been good depth)

In that time we have redrafted these guys on to the rookie list:
McInnes (dud)
Colledge (dud)
Waterman :(
Tunbridge (dud)
Newman (dud)

And these are the decent players he's drafted (jury obviously still out on the later picks):
Hutchings (Fringe best 22)
Sheed (best 22)
Barrass (best 22)
Karpany (fringe best 22)
Duggan (best 22)
Nelson (fringe best 22)
Cole (fringe best 22)
Partington (fringe best 22)

To me that's a terrible job, he's barely brought in any truly decent players and a lot of the half decent ones he's brought in have or will end up being in and out of the side or depth. To me he's done one of the worst jobs of recruiting in the league and the result is what we're looking at now, an aging, mediocre list full of flankers. The development of our players is a whole other issue, and I do realise that we are absolutely terrible at giving our young guys games and developing them, but our recruitment has not helped at all.

Great post, the only thing I'd differ on is your harsh marking of rookie picks. They're by and large raffle tickets, and a guy like Bennell, for example, was probably a good pick given he contributed for a significant time.

With regards to veteran recruiting, I thought that was more Vozzo's gig. I thought O'Brien took over from Trevor Woodhouse, who was only ever involved with the draft and junior staff. I thought Steve Woodhouse was the main man on overall recruiting. If comeone could clarify on this point that would be great.

The List Manager sits over the lot and the Recruitment Manager would be part of the discussion as to the options that would be around our pick compared to what we would need to give up. Example - Redden. What would we get with our draft pick 17 in 2015. O'Brien would have been putting up a list of 5 to 6 names that he believed would have been in the slot for our pick and hence he was part of the discussion. Overall recruiting and trading is the role of the list manager. That said, West Coast has run a less than clear line (clarity a la Nisbett style) and the time you are looking at was when Vozzo was List and Contracts Manager with less power than say Silvani at GWS and Carlton.

I also remember when we were apparently taking Ballantyne last year and the uproar that came because of it. What hapened then? Nothing.

I actually thought the Ballas idea had merit but he is pure trash now
