Great post, the only thing I'd differ on is your harsh marking of rookie picks. They're by and large raffle tickets, and a guy like Bennell, for example, was probably a good pick given he contributed for a significant time.

With regards to veteran recruiting, I thought that was more Vozzo's gig. I thought O'Brien took over from Trevor Woodhouse, who was only ever involved with the draft and junior staff. I thought Steve Woodhouse was the main man on overall recruiting. If comeone could clarify on this point that would be great.
Oh yeh, I understand rookie picks tend to be a raffle but that's my problem with our recent use of the rookie list, we either haven't had a ticket in the raffle or we've picked up someone elses used ticket off the floor from last years raffle.
Other teams use their rookie list to take risks on players, we use it in the most conservative way possible and it just doesn't work.
Disagree on Bennell being a success, he's only 27 this year and played 29 games with us over 3 seasons, if he was a success he'd still be on our list.
The only complete new player we've taken in the rookie draft that's played games since 2011 has been Sinclair. We've had 3 recycled players from other teams playing games in Petrie, Bennell and Tunbridge. So that's 4 players who weren't on our list previously that have gotten games. It's dead last in the AFL (again). That's in comparison to Sydney who in the same time have 14 new players on their rookie list who've played games (445 of them so far), teams like Collingwood and Melbourne have played 11 or 12 guys off the rookie list.
The thing is that we can all see it happening, there were 3 or 4 players last year who many wanted us to rookie from the WAFL and we're only now looking at those players this year when they're likely to go in the main draft. Same the year before and likely plenty of times before that too (I wasn't taking as much of an in depth interest in our recruiting back then). We're missing out on all these free hits to bring in recycled crap from other teams or to cover up our poor list management and willingness to give out contracts to spuds.

Cripps from the blues in Perth meeting with his Manager.

Probably nothing in it... But what would it take to get him over!

Can confirm it's not a @WestCoastEagles staffer. It's Jason Dover from Cripps management company. #nothingtoseehere

Pat Cripps in Perth. @WestCoastEagles should be swooping
that would solve our inside mid problem but not our pace issue

Silvani would want 3 first rounders

I would give two... This years draft isn't to flash for mids and Cripps is a gun and is someone we can build the midfield around.

Don't get me wrong, I like him, but where does he fit in the team and what do we give up to get a contracted player who plays a position we've got about 8 backups for?
He's better than Cole and Nelson, faster too.awesome kick too.
Butler is done and hurn is getting on

My point wasn't that I don't like him, it's what we would have to give up for a contracted player in a position that's probably our last priority this off season. Just not worth it imo.

As a starting point, i'd trade Cole for him.

It's a pretty big problem when guys on here wouldve done a better job of the rookie picks last year from limited info.

For example,Ryan was a no brainer for a rookie spot given hes the exact player we are lacking. It's a free swing, not like we're giving up a top 30 pick (******* weedon). Honestly doesn't help that the guy with the final say is based on the other side of the country. Give Brad Smith the job, couldnt do much worse tbh.

We weren't lacking that sort of player, we drafted Rioli in the third round of the ND.
