How about we just give them our second rounder alone, with a decent front-loaded contract to ensure he nominates us? We should have the cash this year, and unless they can land a bigger fish why not use it?

He's shown talent but no more than Yeo had at the time.

Someone else who doesn't read well.

By bringing forward next years first round pick to this years we can hopefully develop these draftees so we can contend before Kennedy and Hurn age players retire.

That is what using future picks to trade does, it brings forward 12 months what you can invest in developing your list.

Trouble is the team doesn't think like this, otherwise we would have gone for SPP over Venables.

Serious question, if we picked up McGovern, where would he play next year? We already complain that we go in too tall, we'd have JK, Darling, resting ruck and Gov Jr all in the forward line.

And please don't say he'd replace Darling. He's kicked 13 goals in 10 games this year (before tonight). If Darling had that sort of output there'd be a riot.

we would run rucks from the bench or run only one ruck with a pinch hitter.

Kennedy, Darling and Gov are the talls, the ruck uses the bench and only rests forward to give one of those three 5 min rest on the bench.

When Darling or Gov play high hald forwards you arent too tall anyway. Both chase and tackle very well.

Govs price just went up tonight.

That was 12 months ago after landing Mitchell and loading up.

That failed, Kennedy and Hurn area year older and only have what 2 to 3 years of footy left in them?

Our list managers have made things very difficult to get a decent midfield in place before Kennedy turns 33. So they need to do something aggressive.

Meh we have Waterman who looks like he'll do a decent job. Leave Gov for someone else.
This. Back Jake in and leave the overly expensive McGovern for somebody else.

We have Waterman probably playing next season so I dont think Mitch McGovern will be a high priority on needs basis but we should do whatever we can to draft McGovern because he looks all class ...well tonight indeed .

Edit

Probably cannot afford after tonights effort .

Why the **** did we not select McGovern over Lamb.

We are so ******

Don't recall you or anybody else complaining about this on draft day in 2014. It's easy to say 3 years on. Fact is while we wanted gov we probably rated lamb 20-30 picks higher. Lamb was projected to be a 1st - early 2nd rounder so we got a deal at pick 30 odd. I still think it's possible he turns out ok. Just depends if we can change around our shit developing strategies

They are both over 30 and play for West Coast, which means their form will drop off a cliff soon just like Cox, LeCras and Priddis. Any draftees we take this year probably won't be guns before that happens.

So I'd rather not take pick 17/18 this year if it means missing out on a top 10 pick next year - we really need high end talent badly. There are other ways of securing McGovern.

It's interesting trying to get a read on where different BF experts rate particular mids. For instance Chris25 has Garner going at pick #4 in his phantom, by contrast KM doesn't even list him in his top 20 rankings.

I agree completely, I just don't think they do. They're completely oblivious.

There seems to be a bit of rivalry there,Chris pops up on kms phantom draft page a bit rubbishing his veiws a fair bit

probably Jealous ESPN haven't offered him a gig.

Jaidyn Stephenson is an intriguing prospect. Had a 39-possession, 5 tackle and 5 clearance performance in the TAC a fortnight ago. Huge numbers for a skinny outside line breaker. Also had a 5 goal, 28 possession game in the champs IIRC. Strong production. Footskills remain the main knock I guess.

Chris has been doing it for years.
Knightmare is okay but I think he has a love affair on trying too hard with his "play like" and too quick at times to pigeon hole
Having a quick look through their history, it looks like Knightmare has a better eye for picking the players that have made it overall.
For me, Chris develops his favourites a bit more and get stuck on them a bit.

Quigley is one that I liked too.

Yep agreed.
I remember the majority of the board was going off complaining about how vanilla our choice are.
The club didn't go Vanilla with Lamb and I don't mind that.

Like you, I still think he can make it if given a chance.

Agree on Quigley - he gives different insight and love his non-Vic flavour. Puts a decent encyclopaedic together so not for those that scan

and we

and we have lost several thus year by less than 12 points.

Boggles isn't strong enough - its like Pick 3 for Masten. (tell me the weak masten draw rubbish) trade pics 3 then.

morons
It seems to me that the our Vic recruiters have pulled rank the last few years. We have taken alot of Vics lately including Venables over SPP and Lamb over Mini Gov.
