I would like to see Vardy in the KPF with an occasional chop out in the ruck. In that event, I see it as Vardy or Lycett. I cannot see a team with NicNat, Lycett and Vardy. A Vardy up front means oppositions would need to give best defender to JK, next best to Vardy and Jack should be given an lighter opponent and hopefully dominates.
In this scenario, would Lycett be surplus and possibly hold some value at the trade table? Can't imagine he'd be too keen to play WAFL too much next year. Trade Lycett, delist McIness and Giles, rookie list Scott Jones and roll with a ruck squad of NN, Vardy, Petrie and Jones.

I'd like to see NN get fitter over the next few years and spend more time rucking. Structurally it hurts us as he spends less time on ground than most ruck. If we can ruck most of the game, that enables us to utilise a a second genuine kpf and move darling into a third tall role and that improves our forward line.

Where do I start.

Gaff plus 9 for a 6 pick upgrade? Um no way.

Goldstien needs a fesh start is 29 and durable. Lycett is not and we wouldnt get a 1st round pick, more like a 2 nd rounder. Natanui returning from a reco shouldnt be expected to carry the ruck load.

Vardy is more a kp forward tjan a ruck.

The trade for Gov was a 8 spot downgrade on our first plus a 2nd. In this draft pick 17 is still a decent pick. Mitch value is on the rise.
the difference between 3 and 9 is big . You have a great chance of a gun at 3 .

Also why would we downgrade our first for mgov . Our 2nd ( 26/27) is all we should give up for mgov . Downgrading Our First From 8/9 for 17/18 Is Crazy . It means we would miss out on the high quality mid we are desperate for .

Also over his career vardy has been less durable

If Gov only costs 27 28 then we will be high fiving. Thats all I want to pay as well but I can see it costing more, somewhere in between 9 and 28.

I would only downgrade 9 to 17 if we somehow landed another top 10 pick in a seperate trade.

Say Darling to Pies for 6 plus Fasolo.

Or Gaff to the Saints.

And Vardy also lacking durability is another reason to trade in a mature ruck with better fitness history.

I think you over value players .
Mmcgovern isn't worth parting with our first unless it was pick 8 for 18 and mcgovern . I would still rather keep 8 and deal our 2nd .

darling is also not worth pick 6 let alone adding Fasolo .

I actually like Fasolo maybe schofield for Fasolo straight swap . Rather him than matera TBH

$$$$ Throw all the money we got to Shiels a Tom Boyd deal.

Give Gws Gaff + Darling + Our first round

Get their first round + Shiel

Give Adelaid Gws First round + some other stuff like our second

Get Mcgovern Junior

Would lol since I don't think darling can break into Gws best 22.

I've seen enough of shields in the two games which I seen him. He is so good damaging when hes not tagged he will learn how to break it.

So really Gaff + Darling + first round + Second for Shiels + mcgovern
I don't really rate Liam Shiels that highly.

Our chancesof making the 8 are now in freos hands. Can't see them doing us any favours. The good thing is that we will play after them so wil know if a win is worth it or not.

Hopefully we finish 11th (pick 8 would be nice). We should lose to the crows and if the saints and dogs somehow get up...

Most likely scenario now is pick 9 imo as the tigers will probably beat the saints although the dogs might also tank

Doesn't seem to matter who Jack is playing against, there are times he should dominate (J.K double teamed) and doesn't.

J.K is in near unstoppable form, this would have been a great year to have Naitanui to Shuey out of the middle.

Maybe next year.

We've got a chance to be very bold and hit the draft hard.

Darling is expendable and Waterman could come in next year in his role.

Gaff also holds some currency and could upgrade our first or get us a second first rounder.

Do we have the guts?
No we don't have the guts. I do Like the idea of being bold.

Not as easy as you're making it out to be. Just because Jk is double teamed doesn't mean it's Darlings opponent coming off. Most likely scenario is Jk gets number 1 defender and some flanker that is zoning off while JD still gets the second best defender.

Your point is still there in regards to someone being free if Jk has two on him but it's not necessarily Darlings fault. He also had two on him at times on the weekend. The players you should be blaming are Cripps and Hill. Darling will be a lot better for it if Vardy or Petrie play forward ruck next year with Nic as number 1. He just doesn't have the height to be a second tall.

Good post .
Someone who actually understands the nuances of the game.

Gaff is only 25, just entering the typical peak time of an AFL career. If he left now, another club will get the best of him, not us.

No credible source has said he wants to leave, people are just frustrated so put his name in this thread.

The reason I suggested Gaff is because I know he is a good player and he has currency, even though he has had an indifferent season. If we want to get one of those inside mid a-graders then we need to trade something of worth. Our picks, as they stand, will not be enough.

Pretty much this from me as well, he isn't a total bust as he will become a very good HBF, but thats hardly a position of real need at the moment.
I was sceptical when we drafted him that he would develop into an A grade mid as the majority of his good work in the TAC Cup and Championships was as a HBF. I hope that in time he can become a HBF that can take a midfield rotation a couple of times in a game. Short of that I think it a case of what we have seen thus far is as good as it gets. He did come as a player heralded with elite foot skills, I was at least encouraged by this and initially this looked to be the case, but the quality of his foot skills seems to have regressed.

As Obeanie 1 has already mentioned its a repeat of the Sheppard selection.
Unfortunately our drafting team cant quite get a genuine A grade midfielder with our first round pick.

I am bracing myself for a repeat again this year as we take ( as an example ) someone like Coffield with the intention of developing him into a a grade big bodied midfielder, fingers crossed and all that, I hope it comes to fruition , but sadly our track record suggest we will come up short on the A grade midfielder but still get a decent AFL quality player , just one who doesn't help fix our midfield woes.
In fairness the other player considered at our pick, Leverde, has really stagnated at the Bombers, so could be worse.

No doubt we'll go the quick fix and recycle someone else's depth. Probably trade for someone like Webb. I really hope we don't end up with mini-Gov, no point getting another forward if we can't get the ball inside 50.

Tomlinson wore jack like a glove and the guy who doubled team JK was there best defender in Davis. GWS are lucky they have three decent talls or else JK would have dominated once again.

Some players do improve when a new coach comes in and others can stagnate. The likes of JK, Priddis and Gaff have all flourished under simmo but i feel Jacks form has stagnated since simmo took over. He hasn't turned into a spud but he hasn't reached his lofty heights we expected. A new environment could do wonders for him. I do love Jack but im not against trading him. Maybe Hawthorn, Freo, Suns, Port, cats and Richmond might be keen on a player like him. It might allow us to get Mitch Mcgovern and also fit Jake Waterman into the side as well.

Duggan lacks agility, speed or the power to play inside midfield, will that change?

His best position may be a back flank unfortunatly.....just like Sheppard.

Agree with this, nothing I see in Duggan is A grade midfield. Has had a reasonable output on the half back line and he should be given the chance to make it his own. Like him a lot but never seen a player ever have so many of his kicks smothered.

He needs to, someone needs to! seriously lack depth there we need all these periphery guys firing.

So logically Lycett would be up for trade under this scenario? Massive waste otherwise
We would get way unders for lycett currently. Hasnt played effectively for 12 months with serious knee and shoulder injury history.

**** our medicos

Which is why we should have used Petrie forward more this year as the second tall. But such is life.

I am looking forward to Nic lurking deep - he can not be ignored.
