Not as easy as you're making it out to be. Just because Jk is double teamed doesn't mean it's Darlings opponent coming off. Most likely scenario is Jk gets number 1 defender and some flanker that is zoning off while JD still gets the second best defender.

Your point is still there in regards to someone being free if Jk has two on him but it's not necessarily Darlings fault. He also had two on him at times on the weekend. The players you should be blaming are Cripps and Hill. Darling will be a lot better for it if Vardy or Petrie play forward ruck next year with Nic as number 1. He just doesn't have the height to be a second tall.
Just shows how important forward flankers are.

Put McGovern and Rioli in there and there would be less zoning off.

Tomlinson wore jack like a glove and the guy who doubled team JK was there best defender in Davis. GWS are lucky they have three decent talls or else JK would have dominated once again.
Our other forwards aren't dangerous enough. They played 3 talls to combat our 2 since theyre the only realistic chance at goal. If we had decent smalls they should've been running riot. Wilson played half the game up the ground so someone must have been by themselves. People are blaming Darling but there's honestly not much he could've done. It was up to the other forwards to step up which wouldve opened it up for him.

Monocle, What's your thoughts of Hunter Clark with our first? He's performances/stocks are rising by all reports? ,terrier inside and has the leg speed to break away from congestion?. Also your thoughts of Toby Wooller for our second?

He gave a very in depth response to my queries about Hunter Clark, you can find it on page 171 of this thread.

LB Will reply in more detail tonight after work .
However both players you mention are both in my mix for the respective picks you suggest.
Our first rounder I have half a dozen players that I like at this point in time and I will be watching them to see how they progress for the next 10 weeks .
More later tonight.

No worries, much appreciated

I just checked Knightmare's AFL Draft Power Rankings for August, he doesn't have Hunter Clark anywhere in the top 20?

His bad .
Check out Callum Twomey's write up on CLARK he has him at 14.
Callum is much closer and intouch with the AIS Academy and AFL Developmenr staff ( Micky Ablett and Shifter Sheehan ) also talks to the recruiters more regularly.
For Knightmare to not have him in the 20 is doumbfouning .

Nightmare may be just using the champs games when rateing Clark against Allies ifircc he only had 3 disposals to halftime..

Knightmare doesn't like his kicking under pressure. He's written this a few times:

The question regarding Clark's game is his kicking. With time and space on the outside, his kicks were often exceptionally well weighted but in traffic his kicks appeared rushed, with his execution by foot far worse in traffic.

An A grade mid is the top of the list - no question.
No point spending pick 5 on a shandied down pick or a KPF - we need to get the ball and use it effectively, if we can get a couple of elite ball users that is the priority!
Ball movement and skill execution is our problem and has been for years.
This our watershed moment.
Even the elite Midfield of Fremantle needs improving :$

Just wondering where you guys see the list at? You've just missed finals and well dropped some games you shouldn't have. Do you tweak and reload? or is the view of majority to rebuild?

Stratton has been linked to a possible return to WA, but I couldn't see him wanting to play at a rebuilding Freo and I'm unsure which direction you guys are taking. It seems like the writing is on the wall for Masten, Schofield and Wellingham. Also, with Priddis and Mitchell retiring will it be a push for more youth? Or, with a potential move for McGovern will you look to play finals or better next year?

I heard Masten will be the 2017 version of Vickery for hawthorn.

Depends entirely on the level of NicNat. If he returns at his best (fingers crossed) I think we can immediately challenge for top 4.
If not, it will be a "rebuilding" year for sure (games into Rioli, Venables, Cole, Duggan, Nelson, Mutimer, Partington, Watson, Waterman).

Solid ruck
Solid backline
Solid forward line
Deplorable midfield..........

I definitely rate Stratton but I don't think he fills a need for us. If he was a free agent I'd look at him but I'm assuming he's not, and if we're going to trade in ready-made players they should be players who fill gaps in our lineup (i.e. mids, mids and mids), rather than just trading for any WA product that wants to come home as we've maybe done in the past.

I don't think we'll be going for Stratton, we'll likely chase McGovern and possibly Matera but beyond that I'd be tipping us to go to the draft. A player swap for Stratton may be a possibility, all of Hill, Masten, Lamb, Wellingham, Schofield are possibilities...

First pick draft targets all of these guys might be available at pick 9:

1) Jack Higgins 178cm fwd/mid (Toby Greene like apparently)
2) Andrew Brayshaw 183cm mid (bit like his brother, hard, tough)
3) Sam Hayes 203cm ruck (best ruck available, dual under 18 all australian, learning to play forward also)

Overrated midfield unit and they are bang on about the ball movement and skill execution. Brad Hill couldn't finish on his girlfriend's face if he tried while the less said about Stephen the better.
