Thats clearly aimed at the eagles

Agreed. Above all else, we need to address cultural issues in this draft. We need players with Hodge's commitment. Obviously they need the talent to play AFL.

We regularly capitulate under pressure against teams we should beat. It's partly due to a lack of this kind of strong leadership. We don't have a true captain in the squad at the moment.

Age, price, full of campaigner. He's still not the answer.

Certainly a better trade than bringing in Wellingham and Jetta
Yes, given it wouldn't be a trade.

Not looking for the answer, just a piece of the puzzle.

Relying on Redden next year scares me, he's proven adequate when given on ball time but can he flourish without Priddis? I'd have more faith in Sheed being that number one inside ball winner to be honest.

We have roughly 3 million dollars in cap space for next year. Unless you're going to greatly overpay hacks we need to spend it somehow. Now Rockliff and Zaharakis might not be silver bullets but spending 1.3-1.4million between the two of them and allowing us to keep all our draft picks could be hugely beneficial. Call it a miracle but gaff and our 2017 2nd rounder for acres and saints pick 9. Trade pick 9 and 10 for Kelly and our second rounder this year for gov jnr.

You can't tell me that under that scenario that losing gaff, our first 2 picks this year, our second pick next year and our extra salary cap space doesn't put us in a scenario where we are able to challenge for top 2 and a flag.

FB Hurn Barrass Sheppard
HB Yeo Mcgovern Duggan
C Kelly Rockliff Acres
HF Zaharakis Darling Venables
FF Rioli Kennedy Mcgovern
R Nicnat Sheed Shuey
I Lycett Redden Cripps Cole

You can't tell me that side can't be in the top 4.

I rated Redden at the Lions. I reckon he will be fine. Definitely will show more heart than Wellers or Jetta and effort is what brings consistency.

Rocky for nix is probably alright. We really do have to try something, anything.
I'm afraid the ship has already sailed, Pyke went to Adelaide and GWS will finish top Come next year reguardless of who we bring in I can't see us beating the Crows, GWS or Sydney who will be every bit as good if not better this time next year.

No it would make the 4 but will the club even play Venables, Cole, Rioli?
Add Barrass and that's a fair few kids with a handful of games between them.

Plus the likelihood of picking up Kelly, Rockliff, Zaharakis and Gov jnr is about as remote a chance as us winning the flag this year.
Then there's still the problem of on field leadership...

Would be interesting to see them both in the middle together again. Didn't they dominate for Brisbane a few years ago? Just without much help around them. This time around they'd have a ruckman tapping it down their throat, best ff in the comp to kick to and one of the best backlines covering their arse.

Do people actually think we will pick up 4 proven AFL players at their peak or coming into their peak at once? has that ever happened at any club ?

Nic is our worrier

After retiring Mitchell, Priddis, Butler, trading out say Masten and Wellingham, possibly Le cras retiring as well plus the normal list turnover how exactly do we become contenders before Kennedy retires? By drafting unproven 18 year olds with picks in the 5th and 6th rounds of the draft?

We have lots of cash but not many low draft picks. You need to work with what you've got.
I understand what you're saying. The issue with bringing in older experienced guys is that they take the spot of a younger player, and they usually take at least one season to get used to the game plan. We don't have the greatest history with bringing in players from other teams and them having an immediate impact (i.e. Redden, Wellingham, Jetta). It's also clear that the young guys are frustrated with a lack of opportunity (i.e. Lamb, Adamson, Lucas etc). So by bringing in yet more older players, we clog the list up with guys that will be with the club for only a few seasons, take time to adapt, and take a spot on the field from young players that we are currently developing and have been in our system for a year or two.

One thing is certain - it's going to be interesting to see how the club handles it.

**** Rockliff. Oh sure he's got a bit of campaigner about him, he's a hated player, but it's mostly by his own teammates.

STRIPPED of the captaincy for being a terrible leader (possibly even causing a rift among the playing group). Add that to his age, the fact he's a seagull and has no interest in actually winning the game or being creative with his possessions, and it's a no from me :noentrysign:

Besides, he's going to Fremantle anyway.

Has his weaknesses for sure, but one thing you can't accuse him of is being a seagull. Was leading the comp in contested possessions (and tackles I think) by a fair way before doing his shoulder.

At least the giant douche masten started the season off well . Wellingham has been a turd sandwich all year
Wellingham was one of the very few that stood up and tried to spark something v hawks in the granny.

Im a big fan of players who stand up in big games

As much as I don't want Rockliff it still might happen, I don't think anyone's really had the cap space available before to bring in 4 decent players at once.

Geelong went all out a couple of years back .
Dangerfield selwood Henderson and Smith .
That's the closest I can think of . It propelled them into top 4 and a preliminary final . Top 4 finish this season also
