If you're going to be a smart ar#e at least make sure you're not missing the point.

I'm not suggesting there's a Luke Hodge in every draft. I'm suggesting that we should be prioritising qualities like his commitment and leadership when we draft. Those qualities are sadly lacking. If we had them, I'm sure we'd see a lot more desperation being shown a lot more regularly.

The article is about his leadership and how it shaped their culture and influenced the development of younger players. It barely touches on his skills as a footballer.

Try to keep up.
Would it be worth trying to get him across as a coach? If we managed to get a decent senior assistant in to mentor Mitchell and Hodge and help Simpson out I wouldn't mind having Mitch as midfield and Hodgey as backline coaches. They were both pretty much onfield coaches at the Hawks anyway. The leadership and winning mentality they would bring would be worth it's weight in gold.

I reckon he just doesn't care anymore, wouldn't be surprised if he's not on our list next year

He's probably been on between $250k up to $650k over a career from 2008 to date. Add to that the fact that his missus' old man is seriously flushed with cash (like $150m flushed) its fair to say that's a good call that he just couldn't care less. Shows in his footy this year unfortunately.

I agree Sharrod has had a bad year but I don't think it is from lack of interest or laziness. He has just been disposing of the footy like he can't feel his limbs. He was really damaging with the footy in hand in 2015. This year he must have kicked it OOB as many times as he had for the rest of his career combined.

Overall as a team our skill level has tapered off really badly.

Going to be interesting watching how The Purples land Mitch McG given they don't have a second rounder and their first is way to high a price to pay.
They are either going to have to trade someone else out or couch up some future draft picks .
Can't see McG and 17 for 5 as working either .

If the $ value is true young Mitch might just be on more coin than his more talented older brother , now as far as sibling rivalry goes it doesn't get much better than that .

Balic could be there chance of a second round pick , i dont think Balic will nett a second rounder at all but you never know .

Bit of 2 and 2 equals five going on I reckon. Happy that the club isn't wasting time and money/picks on Gov Jr. If the Dockers want to overpay let them. Unlikely they will have enough coin to entice Jeremy. FWIW I think he'll stay at the Crows, just holding out for more cash/longer deal.

Don't forget he's only kicked 17 goals in 11 games this year...nowhere near the value being talked about.

Didn't mean to come across as a dick, but you asked for a top class leader with excellent football ability. These are not easy to find on draft day outside the top bunch of picks. We will do our research and recruit the best player with a high potential ceiling and the commitment to make it in today's game. But, even a player like Hodge had his issues early on and needed to find the right mentors and conditions to excel.

You're right that we have weaknesses in this area, but my point is that it's wishful thinking to demand that we prioritise certain qualities, and that it comes off. I also think our drafting has been OK over the last couple of years, too. Guys like Sheed, Duggan, Cole, Barrass etc... all go when its their turn, and are very promising leaders.

There might be multiple issues contributing to our performance on-field including a lack of leadership (though we did attempt to address this with guys like Mitchell and Petrie), but I think fitness and depth in the midfield seems to be a major factor. I just don't think we're good enough this year to be better than we're placed.

Mc Gov isn't a forward and isn't effective in the ruck. He is a brilliant intercept mark in defence but not great one on one and can be easily countered by a smart mid field. In general play he is slow to assess situations and doesn't offer a spring board.

Sad to lose him but certainly not the end of the world . Thu hiss trade value would be higher than his playing value to us thanks for Fox.

Complete rubbish... He is actually rated the best one on one defender in the comp. I think the figure quoted a few weeks ago by champion data was he had only lost 6 or so one on one contests all season, the rest having been won by Gov or halved.

It is such a bullshit soccer rumour though isn't it haha. "Player tells sister in law that his mind isn't yet made up to leave but he doesn't like the 4-4-2 game style his coach is playing and would rather play under Chelsea's 3 at the back approach" then wtf, who does the sister go and tell? How do media outlets get this information?

Where there's smoke there's fire I guess, so maybe he's unhappy, but come on

Why would anybody be pissed off with Priddis retiring?
I heard that rumour a week or so ago as well. Seems bizarre because they gave Priddis every opportunity over the past few years. Maybe the forced retirement thing was a bit unsavoury, but gee, it was priddy obvious that he was ready to retire...

A lot of these rumors are made up on BF with reporters using this site for their information...

JrGov should stay at Adelaide. Getting offered a truckload of cash to stay in a team on the verge of success.
Maybe in 4-5 years we can have a crack at him.
If we are no shot at Kelly or Dusty then Zacka ain't a bad option at all, cost less and is in his prime. Will take the pressure of Shuey and with another year under the belt Sheed and Duggo will improve again. Bring in Parto and Venables as the next Sheed/Duggo and suddenly we have something to play with.
Smitch calling the shots as midfield coach could also improve the gameplan/style.
Keep our 1st draft pick and get the best possible mid with speed and skill available.

He'd be 3rd - 4th mid here behind Shuey, Sheed and Gaff, more on the level as Redden. I see him being a mid/HFF/Wing, so I doubt teams would tag him ahead of Gaff and Shuey.
No one really tags Gaff anymore because he doesn't do much damage. He'd be more of a target to the opposition than Sheed. I also think teams would rather tag Zaharakis than Shuey given how effective it is at shutting him down.

Also the fact he's supposedly behind Sheed means we aren't really helping our cause of adding A grade talent to our midfield.

Best 1 on 1 in the game
One of the best interceptors
Best utility in the game
Hasn't had much of a go in the ruck but looks good from what I've seen. He oozes campaigner and is a leader. Players like him don't grow on trees they're the sort of players you build a team around

Got some Info on the Jez McGovern situation.

So someone I know just happens to work with a eagles board member. I won't name who the board member is directly but there brother was a top dog in the AFL administration up until this year.

Anyway I was told they asked the said board member about the rumours and they where told that there is some truth to the rumours and it is pretty much that if Mitch goes to Fremantle that Jeremy will strongly considering joining him, the eagles are aware of this & are hoping that if MM does go to Fremantle it gets done early so they can work out the next move.

Not the best news to report but at least we would get something good for him you'd think if he did decide to go.

Trade him now and get that pick 5 off them! Use 5 on the best mid and use the other pick we have on that defender for Peel ( names escapes me ).
