Hartung and Masten like for like?

One is super quick and can break the lines. The other is the most tackled player in the game.
Hartung is a poor and soft player. Why would we take him if Hawthorn don't want him? If Clarkson can't make him into a player, how would we do it?

Rockliff FA

Duncan for Our 2nd and schofield

Masten for GC third then used on tim kelly

B Hurn Barrass Sheppard
HB Yeo Mcgovern Duggan
C Gaff rockliff kelly
HF Sheed Darling jetta
F rioli kennedy Cripps
R natanui Shuey Duncan
int Lycett partington redden venables

don't think Duncan is worth our first at 27 years old
That's why I don't think we will end up with him. Being contracted Geelong will baulk at the prospect of a 2nd rounder for him, and surely we aren't confident enough about the next 2/3 years, and consider him a missing piece of the puzzle, to overpay.

4th or 5th midfielder, not worth our first round pick, would pass if that's what they would want.
That's not a reflection of how good he is, it's a reflection of how good Geelongs midfield is (acknowledged they were pretty horrendous today). Selwood and Danger are better than any of our mods. And he's hardly a 4th or 5th mid, he's quite easily Geelogs 3rd best mid

Scooter :)

Duncan for a second rounder and 28yr old depth defender Schofield? Now i've seen everything.

We need runners who are above 185 (preferably 190) and can play outside but also contest in tight. I think we have a few in the wings so any trade has to be aimed at improving our stock of that type of player not adding back flankers etc. Skill is an obvious must. If you are not a key position player you are a runner with time midfield or attacking through the lines.
real pace to attack and to apply pressure is a give unless you are the next Mitchell.

I still don't get the fascination for height in a non KPP.
Give me a 178cm footballer any day over a 190cm athlete.

I'm still spewing over Caleb Daniel too.
I guess the rule set down by Noah was that a good big player will always beat a good small player.
Given that we only want good players at the A FL level the preference has to be for bigger

I'm not sure I agree with Noah.

So many variances and nuances with our game how do you really compare?
Sometimes people are so blinded by size the overlook the person with cleaner touch or better vision for someone who has size and athletic.

It's also the same the speed, give me a faster thinker and reader of the play over someone who is fast by foot but takes time to process.

Agree with this. Sheed does my head in with the way he holds up play. Him and Duggan are not our future midfield, Duggan is way to slow, hbf or out. Read it here.

Sam Mitchell would be an example in support of your POV (which I agree with too by the way) I would also add capacity to deliver the ball accurately by hand and foot such that is arrives flat and hard. There is no place in our game for loopy handballs or kicks - loopy passes give the athletes an opportunity to close gaps.

For outside run hieght and size doesn't matter as much but on the inside and with contested play it helps a lot. Bigger more powerful mids can stick tackles and break tackles. They can stand upright, free the arms and handball. They can also outmark shorter, smaller players and create mismatches up forward.

Eagles midfield is too small and not strong enough body wise. We have no imposing mids whatsoever.
