You're giving up way more than you should for not much back as well as making Geelong someone also in the finals alot stronger. It just doesn't make sense.

You obviously don't rate gaff if you're giving him up for pick 15 needs to be minimum top 8 pick or why bother

I rate Menagola as the type of mid we lack and pick 21 is still a decent pick to land a slider.

Menagola out with Motlop plus the cats retirees in Mackie and Lonergran sees Gelong maintain their depth.

with the salary cap we have all of mcgovern gaff and Yeo OOC next season as our BIG names then a few of the younger guys also .
Get the big 3 done with front loaded contracts would take a bit of cap from next year plus Emac is not signed up that would be another 300k next year .
Schofield traded plus paying his salary next year would have to make him worth a second rounder . Basically using our cap to get a better draft pick .

Maybe collingwood would want schoey and the cap space

Isn't it funny how often a player wants to move to a particular city for family reasons, and then it turns out they only want to play for one particular team?

God help us if Yeo had been as much of a sook as some of these others who wanted to come home and play for Freo.

Shouldn't assume but i figured you'd understand we would just keep the money for when we need it. Do we need to use 100% of our salary cap? Wait for the right deal

I would have agreed with this at the start of the season. During the course of this season, I feel Vardy is now ahead of Lycett. Given less time in the ruck - he showed enough for me to think he will be damaging up front.

Nice place to be for depth when this is our arguement.

Now - how to we get 2018 to be the debate of smaller forwards. Venables v Rioli v Waterman v Redden resting v Shuey resting etc. Hill LeCras and Cripps have been uninspiring in 2017

That's just not backed up by any stats. Lycett kicked more goals last year than Vardy has managed this year. Lycett has averaged more goals per game than vardy has averaged this year every season bar 1.

Don't even get me started on vardy not being able to get to double figure possessions.

You need to pay 92.5% if I remember correctly so you do have to spend most of the space you have.

i believe he is contracted, but i certainly wouldn't lose any sleep if he was traded given he is super injury prone.

I don't like being misquoted so please don't. Who said anything about spending all our cap space on Rockliff or players like him?

All our cap space is $2+ million dollars which is a stupid suggestion and one I certainly did not make.

What I am saying is we should invest some of that cap space now on a FA or trade, sure front end a couple of contracts now and then have another crack next year.

Saving everything for next year is not workable IMO as we would then have close to $3 million to spend and not many options.

Look at history, how many top line players have come back to WA that demand top dollars?

Who do we spend $3m on next year?

Apologies if I have misquoted you, but you have definitely called for us to spend money on Rockliff and Motlop. These are both players I'm not really interested in.

Maybe you are correct and we have to spend some money this year on free agents and we can't simply front load or restructure existing contracts.

As others have mentioned we have Yeo, Gov and Gaff all needing new contracts next year. I would rather overpay them next year, than any FA this year

Had a look and you're probably correct that there isn't a great deal of FA who will be available next year

Finally if we are gonna have to spend money and likely overpay shit players, I would rather be a little loyal and pay the shit ones we have rather than pickup someone else's crap

The 95% figure is correct, and it's a combination of the cap and the additional services agreement (which is a shade over $1mill next season). If a club doesn't reach 95% then the difference goes to the AFL who in conjunction with the AFLPA will distribute it amongst the players from the team in question. Something of interest though is that any amount we are under the 100% mark (presumably up to the 95% figure) by in the preceding 3 seasons we can exceed the cap by that amount. So if we're 500k under next season, reach 100% in 2019 and 2020, we can overspend by $500k in 2021. So there is value in not spending more than the 95% if we don't have to.
