Lecras has to go. If he wants another season, then play at another club.

I don't have any issue with a player wanting to continue to play. Maybe it's passion, maybe it's culture, maybe it's financial. I don't care their reasons. But I don't like this egocentric attitude whereby they demand their club recontractsthem out of respect for past performances. Lecras can go play for any of the other clubs, like Steve Johnson and Petrie did.

But will O'Brien (the Recruiter not the player) get us a genuine mid of a hybrid want to be mid?
I take it going by that you're into Brayshaw and Constable then?

Not enticed by Clark's contested ball numbers, despite the fact he's not a pure inside mid?

Charlie Spargo with our 2nd pick would be a treat. Exactly what we need.

I'm not in the 2018 season is doomed wagon. Priddis, Mitchell and Drew while they were good players I doubt any of them finish top 5 in the BnF. Nic Nat will be a massive in. One of, if not both Duggan and Yeo have to make the step
Full time in to the midfield. They are the only ones besides Shuey who could a an A grader. I believe both can and just hope
The penny drops for them this year.

Don't write the Eagles off in terms of recruits. They play their cards close to
Their chest. Not much noise when it came to our 2 high profile recruits in the last 2 years. Sammy and Redden. They have something up their sleeve. Mitch Duncan on overs might be it? Geelong have to
Lose someone if they are go get all of Ablett, Stringer and Devon Smith.

I know we live in a world now where it takes 3-5 years to be able to judge a player and I get that's the way it is. Unfortunately or fortunately which ever way you want to look at it I reckon I can see a players future within their first 15-25 games. But that is just me, I don't see much upside to Redden, Sheed, Gaff, Duggan. What we have seen is what they have got in my view. All 4 of them have poor kicking skills and for me that eliminates you as a midfielder.
You know me and I will happily put my hand up if I am wrong so I am hoping you are spot on.
In my opinion I give a player 50 games before you can really judge as to how they will go as it takes 2-3 pre-seasons before their body is really able to withstand the rigours of AFL to compete with the top teams during finals.

Defence was top 3 in the comp this year and won't change. Forward line will gain rioli and vernables next year, as well as vardy as now a second ruck who can take a contested grab up forward.

Midfield is obviously the issue. Nic Nat, shuey, sheed and reddo is a good starting point. However given the lack of A graders left on the market, i almost think we need to bite the bullet and train yeo up in the midfield. As good as he was off HB this year, his explosiveness with shuey, and reddo and sheed supporting in an under will at least give us a middle of the road midfield with still a very good forward line and backline in place. And another pre season for the likes of duggo/nelso/cole off HB, it just seems like the logical move at this point.

Yeo has all the tools to be an elite midfielder (explosive pace, can break a tackle, is a long powerful kick). He just needs to work on his fwd 50 entries over the pre season, rather than bombing it long every time

Trade / delist masten schofield lycett and lecras and give the kids a go who knows we may unearth a gem or two
Until we know as to how Nic will come back post injury, think we should keep Lycett as it may take Nic some time to find his mojo, probably more mental than physical. Is Lycett still under contract and if so when is his contract up?

Signed a 4 year deal at some point but I think that was 2014 when we were playing the 3 rucks. Which would mean he's out of contract at the end of 2018

The one positive of a loss like that is there will be no papering over the cracks this off season. List needs a big turnover and almost guaranteed to get it now

If by big turnover you mean the likes of Le cras, Masten, Schofield and Wellingham are moved on then sure. Others such as Hill, Tunbridge should also join the retirees.

So out;

Priddis, Mitchell, Butler and Le cras retired. Hill delisted. Schofield, Masten and Wellingham traded. Thats 8 senior spots.

Rookies Petrie and Tunbridge delisted.

It's that forward flank position which is the one we keep failing at if you ask me. Not just the midfield.

We need that creative/specialist HFF player who can actually deliver the ball the right way inside 50 and play his role properly. The Toby Greene/Roby Gray position. Last nights game has almost swayed me to think landing Higgins (should he be available) is more important than taking a specialist midfielder.

We seem to always chuck a gimp on the HFF who isn't natural to the role (Wellingham, Priddis, Redden, Sheed, Parto) and it's costing us.

I think Dusty Venables could perhaps be the man, and his fitness is going to be so important going forward :hand::hand::hand:

Well Im hoping for Hunter Clark. In the TAC Cup he played as a HBFer which was not his natural position. He's an inside mid in his U18 side.

So hopefully that will intice O'Brien to lean towards Clark if available.:D

Should slot right in then

We all know that leg speed is our weakness but at the end of the day every team needs inside grunt to deal with sides like the Swans, Geelong and Crows.

Playing one slower inside mid is doable and I'd suggest Hallihan is faster than both Priddis and Mitchell........that isnt hard.

We've already got two slower inside mids slotted into the 22 for next year in Sheed & Hutchings. I mean Hallahan just got let go by the Gold Coast, of all teams they're the last one we should be taking scraps from.

How do you see Waterman fitting in next year. An interesting bigger body that can take a mark. Perhaps share the load with JK and JD, but plays more upfield, with some faster crumbers to add to the mix

That mode of delivery is our forte and not restricted to EY - JK and JD would be elite goal kickers with better service & smarter leading on their part too BTW. Too often leading into the same space.

I think waterman will be a lot like the tom lynch from crows type. To compare crows as an example, their forward line is potent with tex and jenkins, mitch mcgov and tom lynch as the agile talls, and betts and cameron.

Going forward a similar forward line of kennedy and vardy, darling and water, and rioli, vernables and cripps would be pretty handy

Coffield?
I know yer playing in to the joke but that would be exciting and he won't make it to us.

Not the whole point of your post, but Duncan fairly unlikely to leave Melbourne, though he is one of my favourite players in the comp! First child arrived two months ago. His partner's dad does work at the Cats (though played 71 games for us).

Sheed isn't slow, sure he's not a speedster by he isn't slow.

I class Priddis and Mitchell as slow mids.

Sheed yes. Why is Hutchings an automatic slot in.
