We may just need to draft kids and or mature players who wont take as long to contribute.

Pick 7 or 8 may get us a Higgins who plays the small forward part time mid role. Reports are he will be ready to play year 1.

Same goes for a Brayshaw or Clark or Worple. These kids are bigger and better prepared than kids were 10 years ago.

Look at SPP.
Yeh even with SPP, Joel Selwood etc. It took them a while, we dont need another 15 touch guy we need a solid midfielder who can average 25-26 touches a game and got a goal here or there. Unless one of these rookies can average 25-30 touches there no point going to it. We only have nic nat for 2 more years maybe 3 if were lucky

Aaron Hall averaged less contested possessions and less clearances than Andrew Gaff this year, wouldn't call him an inside mid.
Assuming Hall is worth a second rounder what do we do with the rest of our picks? Who would you target with them in trades?

Depends the role Hall plays, he can certainly play inside mid when he gets the opportunity but when you have gablett in there and you need to play swallow in there because he lacks pace as the same as does with touk miller. Aaron hall does average 4 tackles a game. We need to see his 2016 form when he did play inside more due to gablett injury. Depends who is available. Rockliff, one-two year deal free agency. If we could pull off matera hes a nice half forward/mid option (but if he was smart, freo will win more at this rate and that why hes probably going there) but shaun higgins would be nice in that role. Fasolo would be somewhat cheap.

If we could get rocky inside, with shuey and sheed. Gaff and hall on the wings. That would probably mean higgins wont come. But Fasolo mid/wing role and we look so much better and we could do it with our draft picks

Naitanui is 27 turning 28 May next year?

He will be playing for more than 2 or 3 years.

But what does nic nat rely on. His athleticism. How many 31/32 players have that jump/pace at that age, his xfactor. I didnt say he wouldnt play, but without those traits he doesnt have the skills to be an a grade player.

Where has Shaun Higgins come from? Seems a very random name to throw out there.

WA boy, a lot easier to come home. North Melbourne in a big rebuild stage. Would be easy to get off if NM are smart. If he isnt going to be there for the next tilt you might as well trade him and get a young star to build a team around

He's from Geelong?

oops my bad (was thinking about fasolo), i mean yeh hes at north melbourne, if your rebuilding getting rid of veterans to bleed young blood is a good idea. Look at the NBA
He's just won their Best and Fairest and you can't go too far the other way.

He's staying at North.

Hall for a second rounder would be awesome. Would allow us to send Gaff to saints for one of their picks and we should have enough to get both Higgins and Clark. I like them both because of their ability on both sides and versatility in multiple positions.

Rockliff as a FA for 2-3 years to lessen the experience blow. (Not essential but he'd buy us a few more years to develop our mids)

Trade Masten Schofield etc for 3rd rounders and try to improve draft position enough to ensure we pick Kelly. Ryan with a late pick and a project FF and ruck with late/rookie.

Rockliff Kelly Shuey Hall with Higgins Clark Venables rotating through there would be a nice pacy midfield that could impact almost instantly.

Need to make some bold moves this year.

yes cause hes 30 next year with a history of injury. Would you want to keep someone like that for another year or two before you delist or get a third round pick. North might budge with a second/third round pick

Just seems like it's the start of an average team to me. Think we have go the draft route because there's the chance ( however slim) that we'll draft some top line talent.

This is very random.

You could literally select any experienced player from a lower side and throw their name in as you have.

But building culture is just as important as developing kids. North get a lot more out of keeping Higgins for the rest of his career than they would from another draft pick.

I'm finding a lot of the posting to be rather random Carbine Chaos but it goes with the time of the year we're at, I guess? :drunk:

Don't know that's necessarily the case. Last year when he came back from injury he was a little bulky and played fine. Hed just have to bulk up and play as a Mumford type which he could handle I reckon, he's still a pretty smart ruckman.

When he came back last year, did he have that freakish leap, yes. Did he have that speed still, yes. That why he was such a top player, one of the best, judged by the player ranking system. Was due to his athleticism and his smarts combined. Without that hes just another ruckmen with smarts. He would be left behind by Kreuzer, Jacobs, Martin, Witts, gawn, Grundy, Nank etc. Although he smart with his taps, he doesnt do enough around the ground without his xfactor

Yeah he'd still not just an average ruckman. He might lose the jump but he'd be a Mumford on steroids right up until he retires. He's a freak and not some "normal" player.

Who in our current side plays Gaffs role if he leaves?
I had expected more from Rotham as he is a possible outside wingman. He played wing and HBF at WA U18 and colts.

He was seen as a really decent pick up at our 2nd round last year and really disappointed in his development this year. He was one that should be starting to come through in 2018.

I feel like gaff has taken priddis role as whipping boy. Being blamed for our failings as a midfield group and not recognized for all he brings.
Gaff's still top 5 on our list and we'd need great compensation for him if he decided to go. The thing is, he's gone backwards since '15, and I'm not sure if it's due to an injury he was carrying all year affecting his kicking or if he's developed a more permanent problem off the concussion he received from last year. Either way, he's not where he was, which was the best winger in the game. He's still AA level and a BnF winner, and as said earlier, top 5 on our list. Would take a brave man to say that pick 7 or 8 from this year's draft would ever reach those levels...
