Probably for a future 1st. GWS don't have to trade tho, and he could go through the draft of PSD, where he'd be picked top 10 either way.
Players walking through to the pre season draft won't happen anymore , the afl has closed that loophole . There will be mediation instead .
It's a saftey net for players not a bargaining chip for clubs at trade time and the afl had made it very clear to clubs that that is how it is used .

different players banfield projects as a big bodied inside mid and dec has a crap load of toe about him both if develped right would be huge assets to us

I agree very different players and yes both could be very useful.

My comment on not both was in regard to being able to get them both in this years draft / trade period.
Mountford we would need to trade a latter pick for him, our fourth would be about right.

I would hope we will be using our first and second in the draft, our third for Ah Chee that would leave our fourth and fifth.
I cant see Banfield lasting till our fifth rounder given the interest he has already garnered.
Thats why I said not both.

Obviously if we received some additional picks if Masten and Lamb move on then that changes the landscape.

wah? when did this happen? seems to give very little reward to clubs developing players... do the players still have to go through the draft?

So Ah Chee is uncontracted and the team most likely for him to get game time is WCE . Port have little bargaining power except they can help in getting him where he wants to go rather than into pre season draft . Which was cancelled last year due to lack of uncontracted players desired . Well eagles could offer port a 3rd round pick to be nice or just hold a draft pick for the preseason draft which is held after the normal draft . You wouldnt think port would hold a preseason pick to redraft a player who wants out would you . Because we beat port their pick is before ours . I think I have all this right . I did do some research after all . But I am not all over this drafting stuff like some are .

Funny comment by port saying he is a required player that has had little afl game time this year being a big bodied midfielder then they go and get Rockliff [emoji848]

Blues CEO Steven Trigg has said the club will focus on building midfield depth in this year's trade period and Kennedy will be a welcome addition provided Carlton can broker a trade with the Giants.

GWS took Kennedy with pick No.13 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, but industry sources believe he is now worth a second-round pick.

Christ..

Duncan is overrated for a start. Gaff would be doing as good as him playing outside Dangerwood.

Also, Gaff is a year younger..
Gaff is more overrated then Duncan. The games I saw of Duncan he was more effective and kicking goals.I'm not that bothered if we trade Gaff ain't no Chis Judd which was devastating at the time.

How do you feel about trading our 3rd for Ah Chee? Do you think he's a better talent than we could hope to identify at that stage of the draft?

I didn't think that Adelaide had salary cap breeches ?
The extra payments were league wide like judds visy deal and they then tightened it up with all clubs .

It was draft tampering that as Adelaide was done for snd the trade clauses in tippetts contract
You're probably right.

I may not have explained it properly . Barrett was talking about it on trade radio today . The whole trade me or I'll walk to the PSD threat has been shut down by the afl . They don't like clubs using PSD as a threat to gain trade leverage and encourage mediation if a trade can't be done and if a player can't find a new club during trade period they are then delisted

I am fine with it.

He is a known commodity he can play at the highest level, we know what we are getting and with more opportunities he should improves and thats a real bonus.
He plays in a position of need that we are short on.
He is the right age profile and age wise, he helps plug an age gap that our list's thin in.
He is a mature body at 188 cm and 88 kg , so he is plug in, ready to play.

Third rounders are hit and miss and more often miss.

I think he was a victim of playing in a position of real depth at Port, no shame at being held out of the team by Wines, Ebert, Boak, Hartlett, SPP, Robbie Gray and Wingard. Every one of those players would be in our starting 22.

He will be motivated to make a second chance work and that often intrinsically triggers improvement.

Appreciate the detailed response as always. He looks a good pickup to me too, but I'm still hoping we might be able to get away with only trading our 4th.

Ok, let's take Kennedy as an example. He's completed 2 years, so he'd a RFA or UFA. He wants to be traded, GWS want to keep him. Let's say Carlton offer pick 38 and next year's second, which GWS think is low. Other teams are willing to offer more, but Kennedy is keen as mustard on the SOSage-fest going down at Carltank. What are GWS' options here?

And on another note, surely the AFL should be investigating tampering after the 3rd straight season where Blues are suddenly the beneficiaries of the a GWS player wanting to more!?!

I have given my reasoning and comfortably stand by it.

Agree to disagree.

Nev I think it's time you put the iPad down and went to sleep.

I'd be more than happy to have him over here but got this answer from a family member

If Ah Chee wants to come here we should offer our 4th and nothing more. Port can GAGF, absolutely bent us over for Ebert back in the day so why should we do them the favour of giving 3rd round pick for an uncontracted player in his 6th year at the club, who isn't best 22 and is now one position further back in the pecking order since Rockliff has decided to head over there. They should consider themselves lucky to get even that, they have absolutely no bargaining power here.

Plenty of talent to be found in the 3rd round, we picked up Willie there last year, and in previous years there has been players like Gov Jr, Daniel, Barrass, Brown, Parker. May as well supply our own lube if we're willing to give those campaigners our 3rd rounder.
