Lots of points to address there Dark Sharks. ;)

In your very own words , when asked if he would he improve our midfield, your reply was.

So does that mean he only improves our midfield depending what draft draft pick we use a third or a fourth. ?

I do understand "the want" to even up the score with Port , but if you put the emotion of that aside and ask yourself :

If it wasn't a Port player would you be so headstrong?

Ah Chee fills a need and makes us a better side.

Often on this board we are critical of the Club for not being proactive enough to get deals done at trade week that will improve our side, so pay whats needed to get the deal done ( obviously with in reason ) or miss out on the deal. You cant have it both ways.

We are not the only team chasing Ah Chee's services. If it was only us in the hunt for him then by all means offer them sweet FA.

3rd rounder for a player who still hasn't cracked a starting midfield spot despite having 6 years on an AFL list. For a guy who averages 14 odd disposals a game in this time, is from WA and wait for it...... Doesn't even have a contract.

Those figures are skewed as he spend the first four games as the sub. Hard to rack up high possession in a game when your wearing the green vest.

I would like to point out that there are two Clubs that are well known for being both fair traders and also astute in their strategic assessment and pursuit of other Clubs fringe players / recycled player. Both Sydney and Geelong often pay what is perceived as slight overs to get a player across from another team to fill a specific need, but then in hindsight it appears to be a good move. Examples Ted Richards and Sam Menegola.

Both these Clubs have had a much longer sustained stay at the top of the ladder and clocked up more premierships since our last one...... sometimes it pays to look at other Clubs methods and adopt their best practices.
Hell even Richmond won a Premiership, in part, by addressing shortfalls and holes in their list and being strategic by recruiting in Nankervis, Caddy and Prestia to fill those holes.

We quibble on this board that we caved in and should have only dealt the slightly latter pick to Brisbane for Elliot Yeo.

Ask yourself this question how would you feel now if we had stood our ground and missed out on trading Yeo and he was playing the way he is at Fremantle.
I bet this Board would be scathing had our Club missed out , just to preserve a slightly better pick.[/QUOTE]

I can add another intangible

When negotiating with a certain player to join your club, the single most important thing you as a recruiter can do is convince said player how important he is to the forward development of the club.

To then play petty games around late draft picks or small gaps between your picks (a la Yeo) means your actions don't back up your words.

Additionally you get the trade done & can move on. There has been an enormous number of potential trades that certain clubs have missed because their head recruiter has dug his heels in which has held him up for nearly the whole period.

Get it done & move on.

Nothing wrong with the standard of females in Melbourne, Perth or Adelaide.

If you have any doubts, have a look at the young ladies on the arms of the players at the Brownlow.

Now lets be clear, there is nothing more likely to have a player settle in a state than to find a local lady. If you can't find something decent in any of the main AFL cities, then you need to have a cold hard look at yourself.
exactly , even clayton oliver has a girlfriend

In reading this as "we will give up our third for Ah Chee".

Any other news Bond?

Anyone chance of getting someone half-decent this year (e.g. on $400k or above)?

Chances we trade anyone out for more than a token pick?

See this is exactly wrong with our fans and our club. Celebrating and acknowledging mediocrity. Like being last is a1. This isnt the Gaylord fockers fc congratulating and admiring those who come dead last or have a bit of heart. Not to say those who dont should be congratulated either.

If not skilled thanks but no thanks

you sure she didn't loose a bet with friends ??

She said to her friends "When you asked me if i wanted to go to the Brownlow with Oliie and I said hell yes, I thought you were asking about this Ollie "

So tell me BOND 007. You don't think a club has never told a player they are recruiting that they value him highly, will eventually get the deal done but for the best interests of the club and the list which in turn effects their chance of success they will be doing their best to get him for as cheap as possible?

It's not that said player isn't worth a first it's that why give up a first when a second might do if they play hardball?

Did Port Adelaide stand firm with Ryder? a player they desperately wanted? I'm pretty sure it was Essendon who relented before the deadline because Port stood firm. Should Port has caved in to Essendons demands and given over Ollie Wines or Chad Wingard as Essendon requested?

The Suns demanded two first round picks for Dixon which is insane. Should they have given into Gold Coast or were they right to play hardball until such a time a fair deal could be done?

How about the Ebert deal. Could Port have offered us pick 28 and a player? How about a second and third round pick? Or did they use their leverage to secure a good player for as cheap as possible.

I could even use the Polec trade as an example as well which took almost all of trade period to get done.

From where i sit Port seem to be doing just fine standing firm when it comes to trades, the club isn't treated like a Leper colony, no players have walked away that they have publicly gone after regardless of whether it takes until the last day of trade period to get the deal done. I don't see any hurt feelings. Just players who are informed correctly of the situation. They seem to be doing extremely well as now Rockliff wants to join them this year as well.

Your attitude is a reflection of how timid West Coast are as a club. Don't offend the player because god knows we struggle to attract talent as it is, just get it done and because we're such good chaps hopefully other clubs will reward us for it down the track. I mean heaven help us if we made a player wait a few more days to get to the club.

Ah Chee is probably worth around a late third third but a fourth should get it done. He has been in the system long enough, has hardly played, is out of contract and despite what Port claim is not required and is nothing more than depth. But sure lets give them our third without trying to force the issue with our fourth.
That's what you're saying right?

Let's get serious here, It's not about revenge, it's not about what they "owe" us. It's just good business.

I'm not advocating that we become notoriously difficult to deal with like Essendon but we don't have to get the deal done a.s.a.p every bloody year without seeing whats the best we can do.

Maybe our recruiters and trading department just aren't up to scratch.

Thats true BOND 007.

Additionally it also gives players managers good leverage to help get a prospective player to agree to a trade join us , as the manager can point out that historically when WC commit to a player they then go and get the deal done.

Maybe u should put your hand up for Vozzos job

I merely commented on your statement I didn't celebrate his so called mediocrity as you stated, we can only comment on who have played for us what Iam saying is that I would have given him a game before some of the pea hearts that have graced our jumper

Typically classy post Monocle :thumbsupemoji:

My reservations aren't really about how much talent he has, it's about how much he's WORTH right now. I think he'd do quite well in our midfield given the opportunity, he provides a little bit of something we don't have.

I know you mentioned his sub affected games, which is a fair call. But the sub rule was gone after 2015, and the last 2 seasons, he's still only averaged 15 touches a game. Hardly world beating stuff.

So recruited at pick #45 in 2011, now 6 years on an AFL list he still can't establish himself in a team like port and has clearly been overtaken by a first year player in Powell Pepper.

He's also out of contract and has requested a trade. If we can't broker a trade for an out of contract fringe player in a deal where we seem to hold all the cards like this, then i'd rather we took our 3rd rounder and went to the draft. Again, it's not a question of how good a player he is, but it's painfully obvious his net worth is at an all time low, and we need to take advantage of that, regardless of other suitors.

Would love to say it had something to do with being bent over Ebert, but i couldn't care less. This could be gold coast and i'd be saying the same thing, i'd just like us to come out on top of this trade rather than seemingly overspend with our 3rd when we don't need to.

If we really want to get him in the side then i'd be happy for us to scab another 3rd rounder from somewhere to make this happen, would prefer it actually, but i'd like to see us go into the draft with more than picks #13, #30 and #67 :handpointleft: That's not enough for mine.

Wow - you really have a great amount of shit on your spleen. Hope you can relax a little now that you have vented.

I just wanted to check that you got the gist of the posts by BOND 007 and Monocle - Geelong, West Coast, Sydney (and I would add Hawthorn) all have a reputation for getting the deal done. We are talking about people not property and hence being known as the bad arse deal maker is not really a prize many clubs would want. You may not like the trades, but we seem to have got in Yeo, Jetta, Wellingham, Redden, Mitchell, Vardy and Giles pretty damn smoothly. Have we paid overs? We traded in to address areas of need. Have they all worked out? No. But we had a target, engaged and came away with the goods. Do not let the below expectation performance of Wellingham in 2014, 2015 and 2017 get in the way of being a trade we deemed right. A heavily compromised draft in 2013. Club desperately needing midfield speed and line breaking capability and a starting 22 at a premiership club. Don't look back in hindsight and say we got screwed. There were a load of happy posters when we got him.

I think I remember a recent quote on the clubs trading - "If you had a hot date with Miranda Kerr lined up, there are enough on this board who would complain that she was wearing the wrong coloured lipstick".
