I just poked my head into your board for the first time to see what wc people think of ah chee. I was very disappointed to hear he will probably leave port and go to west coast. I rate him very highly & could never quite understand why he wasn't given more game time.
I first saw him play in an internal trial game and thought he was Shaun Burgoyne. He looked like a gun in the making, big bodied, smooth mover, good footy brain & excellent disposal by hand and foot. A natural footy player with an afl ready body. I still scratch my head wondering why he didn't get more games, particularly this season when Powell pepper looked cooked. He came 2nd in the Margarey medal in a canter.
If he leaves I genuinely hope wc give him a good run of games and build his confidence because he could/ should be an afl star. Appears to be the complete package but was always on the outer at port.
With all the running, jumping, kicking tests at the draft people often overlook a genuine natural footy player
giving a new/young player an extended run is not something we do. We strictly give tried shit campaigners continual games.

Shipley looks like a young man with a lot on his mind.

I think given we are miles off flag contention we should try to move on all non - elite players aged 28 or older, such as Masten. Tell him his opportunities will be limited and encourage him to find another club. Create some more cap space and put games into the younger players.
I agree and in the masten case I'd be prepared to pay a chunk of his salary too. We all know he is not the future ( part of our next flag tilt)

How have we been sleeping on this kid?

He's probably up there with Cal England as far as WA pure midfielders go. Mid to late in the draft but the Eagles should be looking at him a touch more given his role and type.

Video compares him to Pepper but he's less versatile by half and a more consist if less attacking kick. Not surprisingly he ran a touch over 3 seconds for the 20m spring, but has ran close to 2.90 in tests with the WA Academy before getting injured.

In the Wines and Cripps mold. Big frame, strong over the ball, clean hands and a little on the heavy side at top speed. I thought he was quicker between 10-20m range than the first 10m given his bulk but his vertical leap shows he's got some explosive ability.

I posted this on the main board in the Anthony Miles thread. Have at it...

"WCE have lost inside mids Priddis, Mitchell, S-Selwood, Ebert, K-Stevens and Kerr (retired) in the past 6 years.

Our replacements so far are Jack Redden.

Shuey, Sheed, Duggan and (to a lesser extent Gaff) have some elements of inside to their game but it's not the best use of their game. Hutchings is a tagger. Jetta and Masten are snowflakes. Wellingham has regressed. Then you've got a bunch of HBF/HFF kids like Partington, Venables, Nelson, Mutimer, Cole, Karpany, Lamb etc who may transition to midfield one day but they're miles off even getting a regular game; plus our player development record is utterly woeful.

We desperately need to add any half-decent inside grunt that's available, even if it they are second rate and highly flawed compared to the rest of the comp's inside mids. I'd take BOTH Brendan Ah Chee and Anthony Miles in a heartbeat."

If we are still looking at Mids as Inside or Outside we will have a average Midfield for years !!!!

Tell me is Martin Dangerfield Bontempelli inside or outside or both ? Is Shuey an inside or outside Mid ?

We need to be picking up Midfielders that can Midfield If they have to get the hardball they can if they have to sprint down the wing they can If they have to go forward they can......

It will be a long road if we keep looking at Mids as inside or outside, You have to be able to do it all in this modern game !!!

Snowflakes the world over are offended by this comparison.

Absolutely agree. Really hope we pick him up. To our blokes, I want Ah Chee, Shuey and Nelson in the middle, With Nic obviously. Pace and grunt.
