Looks like our pick 30 has just turned into pick 31, thanks to the wonders if Free Agency.

It'll change back when Port sign Rockliff (or Motlop), they'll lose that pick.

Actually no it won't, because Brisbane will get a compo pick instead.

I am sure the club are working hard behind the scenes but I'm not sure if there are any obvious answers for us this offseason. I'd have gone for Rockliff, and I'm fine with Ah Chee and maybe a Mountford. But at the end of the day what we need to improve is to nail our picks and to develop the young guys we do have to come good, otherwise we have no chance.

I think if coached correctly and with a new game plan and belief we can do some damage.
Ive already laid a carton that we'll make top eight and three cartons we'll make top four."corse i was pissed!! But with Priddis gone and NN and Lycett back we must get better.

Damien Barrett

If It was Mitchell and Petrie in last years trade period ......

Then That's fine . Ripping blokes who did well on-field in 2017 . But need to hit it out of the park this Trade Period if next season is to be a good one . And we are fearing you're going to strike out .

Our reputation at trade table hasn't gone unnoticed , not that Damien Barrett has put himself on the line here cause we have failed our trading test recently , hopefully Brady Rawlings can take responsibility for the future trading starting this trade period .

Absolutely agree. Really hope we pick him up. To our blokes, I want Ah Chee, Shuey and Nelson in the middle, With Nic obviously. Pace and grunt.
Ah chee is a no brainer for mind if you want/ need to strengthen midfield rotations. With free agency the drafting landscape has changed, no need to rely solely on drafting young kids. You can bring in 2 afl ready mid aged players like ah chee who should play a lot better for their new club with increased opportunities, then nail a couple of good young draft picks and you can very quickly improve your team.
Traditionally it's very hard to break into ports midfield, even the great Shaun Burgoyne had a 3 or 4 season apprenticeship in defence before he was promoted to our midfield. And poor old ah chee is a genuine midfielder but was played off the bench then thrown onto the half forward or half backline in spurts.
I still can't understand why he could never win a consistent midfield spot with us but every season I thought it was his turn we would draft in a good mid that quashed his chances, Ebert, Polec, wingard, wines, Powell pepper.
Give ah chee a go and I think you will be surprised how good he is.
Watching west coast a few times they seem like a very tall strong team in need of some run and carry.

It wasn't Mitchell and Petrie in last year's trade period Damo. Petrie didn't come on board until the rookie draft which was more than a month after trade period ended.

Also, I'm fairly sure people were saying we needed to hit it out of the park in the 2014 trade period in order for 2015 to be a good season. We made zero trades and made the grand final.

Nailed it mate - the drafting has let us down.

Need to stop bringing in 'tallish' middling types who look talented in junior footy but ultimately don't fit a true position in the AFL. They just become spare men who fill no real purpose.

Oh and no more 'he slid in the draft because he was injured all year! - what a bargain!' picks either. Draft guys who can actually get out on the park.

Aside from Venables and Cavka how many of those types have we taken in the last five, six, seven years?

It's amazing he gets paid to write such trash

Funny how AFL.com hypes up his sliding doors article as something special, too.
