I don't understand why we would keep giving games to any non - elite player over 27, including Masten and others. We are not in flag contention and we have an ageing list.
I think we are better off creating cap space and getting games into younger players. I realise that not all of our young players will make the cut at the end of the day, but the sooner we find out which ones to keep and which to cut the better. And the quicker we develop the ones that are good enough off the better.
I think some parts of the club, especially the coaching panel, might be in denial about where our list is at. Or, if not in denial, trying to delay the inevitable culling for reasons of self preservation. I understand that and every person in a coaching or assistant coaching position would think the same way and be reluctant to take actions that will likely worsen short term performance in order to prioritise longer term list building without the clubs support in doing it. The club needs to tell Simpson it will support him in the aftermath of the cull and encourage him to get on board with it.
