That means either we were extremely lucky this year, or we are going to be a very good side when we actually get our **** together.

Optimistically it's a bit like Richmond's year a couple of years ago, where they beat a lot of top 8 teams.

We beat 5/top 8 this year. Not terrible.

In a weak competition, we've got 3 guns in Kennedy, Nic Nat and Gov. Some B+ in Yeo, Shuey, Gaff. Darling and Hurn are best 22 in any team.

The rest are either role players, mercurial/unrealised talent or untried. If we can get consistency from the mercurial and a bit of luck with the untried, the good role players like Shep, Cripps etc. come into their own.

Could go either way really, I could see us having a crack in 2019.

I suppose what i am suggesting is when was the last time you ever read or saw something like this:

"West Coast set to offer out of contract (opposition) player 5 year deal" etc

I cant remember anything off the top of my head. In fact, we would have to be one of the very few clubs, if not the only one, that i cannot remember having made a public approach for a players services. If i am wrong, i stand corrected.

Sure but that’s nothing to do being creative. Maybe no one wants to come.

Sorry but I don’t want ah chee to get a 5 year deal.

Could we do some sort of 3 way trade is Gaff is going to leave? And we receive Callum Ah Chee In return?

Bartell made a point today that clubs in positions like ours should get in a 3rd party to conduct a list analysis report.

Yeah he in particular needs a 3rd party to come in just to tell him a few things.

What will this 3rd party say? They don’t know players in and out so how do they make a decision? A poll on wce website?

Hartung is an ordinary player because his kicking is poor way too many turnovers

Yes but he has small little legs that makes it look like he runs fast.

Reckon he averages one tackle a game. Masto mark 2.

ah chee
Ah Chee will be ok I guess. Seeing how we've done so well with past trades (Wellingham, Jetta and Redden) recently it's hard to get excited about recruiting mid range dudes these days
ah chee is a tease, he looks like AFL material but seems to always fail when given the opportunity, he was given a golden opportunity in 2016 and gifted games when he shouldnt have and still came up short, if you want to see his best game it was late 2015 against GWS where he was fyfe like and i thought we were really onto a winner.

What will that achieve? Identify we need more pace in the midfield and some succession planning on forwards?
It'll give the consulting industry an extra boost. Other than that, not much. ;)

A player with a high ceiling that falls short when it counts, we have a few of those already. Hope for our sake he comes cheap...

Not that bad compared to who though? I don't think the current midfield will match it with the best given our current depth and experience gap. Its good to be positive but people need to be realistic about our prospect in the coming years. We are basically rebuilding our midfield from here on end and we will be found out on multiple occasions next year, which is ok if you have realistic expectations. If we have any hope of being there or there abouts the likes of Duggan, Sheed, Redden, Venables all have to go to the next level and to expect that will happen is a little myopic. Happy to be wrong.
I meant not that bad in compared to what it could be without sheed redden shuey and nicnat back without those 4 we are screwed agreed its a rebuild, but you need pressure to make diamonds.

Agree 4th rounder is all that should be required.

When the club emails the offer they should include a photo of Ebert. Drafted with a first round pick and traded for a second. Automatic best 22 at both clubs who is happy to bleed for the team.

Power need to stop being greedy and accept you dont get the same pick you used to draft a player who six years later still cant break into the side.

Will also provide an outside and industry perspective free of bias and emotion. Occurs the all time in the public and private sectors. The Eagles after another year of close but not enough could benefit greatly out of it. I agree with Bartell 100%. Surely we arent that arrogant to think we have it all worked out and could not benefit from it.

I think given where we sit age wise, we should be aiming for a flag. Yes, all the old timers have left us this year- but our core players are all in that 24- 28 range. (where historically they should be at the peak of their powers)

Losing both Mitchell and Priddis will be interesting next year for our midfield- but it's just a new opportunity for guys like sheed/Duggan/venables/redden/partington to stand up. Add maybe another midfielder at the draft this year, with a fit NN & Lycett - we will have rejuvenated the side and will be an unknown quantity. Which is very exciting, I think.

FWIW- I think Vardy will head to CHF next year should our main rucks be back next year, with Kennedy to stay closer to home.
Maybe but we need 2 fit ruckmen. So maybe rotate Lycett and Vardy with games in WAFL and develop a CHF - maybe McInnes probably a better CHF than Vardy who only occasionally takes a mark.

Yes and previously Michael Barlow starred at VFL for a few years and only got drafted in the rookie draft .
