They won the trade period second year running. Mind you Weller was good talent. No guarantee they will get as good as player with 2.

Represents a similar disparity in value as a best case for our deal, without the risk.
Matera for a future 3rd btw.
They get a top end mid and probably first look at the best tall at 5. Good effort.
Would make it sweeter still for them if Rayner was there at 2.
The deal for Weller this year went down similarly to the deal for O'Meara last year. You can really get bent over if you commit too fully to a particular player. There has to be a point where you walk away. GC should have this year; Hawks should have last year. Massive overs paid.
It is a midfielder draft and Freo usually only go for 1st round midfielders. Business as usual.
The old Wallace logic. Look forward to hearing what his given Richmond and Hawthorn who did relatively nothing either.

Good effort for Freo but with Weller gone it leaves their current youth stock quality quite thin. Blakely and Darcy are the only real stand outs there. They are a bottom 4 team atm so could probably use some top 5 pick quality.

We get GC's second rounder back next year, with the way they have traded today there is every chance they get the
next season. Every chance its pick 19 in next years draft.

Actually scrap that the other pick was 52, it compares to a about mid tier result for us in terms of points disparity (WC slip and GC get close to finals). So I probs reacted a bit over excited.
However, the points addition of 52 probably doesn't reflect its lack of utility similar to our trade. 20 and 25 for 15 and 52 is pretty good deal still.
Pretty average trade period again by us but clearly the club is focused solely on the draft. Good luck in the draft lol

On trade radio Gold Coast position was they had 4 picks in top 10 last year, have two first rounders next year. An established young player like weller was worth it.
I'm not as down on it as others. Weller is good, we'd be frothing over a third year player averaging 20 touches and with serious pace. Will average 25 touches a game this coming year.

Don’t need to be tall when you got excellent footy smarts. Caleb Daniel, Toby Greene etc.
I’ve warmed more to Hunter Clark over the year but still love what Higgins brings.
Think with our batch of second rounders there will be an opportunity to draft a Brent Daniels or Gryan Miers.
