Feels like a Parto write up.
minimum of fuss = doesn't break lines.
Inside ball winner = has no outside game.
neat and tidy ball use = short kicks & handballs only, no real penetration with his skills.

From the games I saw live, watched on tv and input from colleagues in Melbourne, that is not the conclusion I would be going to. Happy to get another view but which games did you go to and notice these traits in his game?

What are peoples thoughts on Constable at 13, has height and can play forward, midfield and back.

Yes, the boy can play football. Not an eye-catching athlete, but strong and composed. And may be available.

In 2013 a tall midfielder who lacked a bit of pace, but had a good footy brain was taken at pick 13 (Patrick Cripps).

I'm hoping we do the same with Constable this year...

At least they are likely to stick around and not go home to Mummy in two years time.

We don't lose players though.

Judd is the only best 22 players we've lost, and could be argued we came out of that trade a lot better.

Ebert was rubbish with us.

With regards to Kelly would he be a guaranteed best 22 next year. Not borderline but guaranteed? If not, then wouldn't an 18 year old we had to wait on a year have more upside?

Losing 2018 first round pick but picking up Gold Coast's second is probably much of a muchness really. Might drop 3 or 4 spots in the 2018 draft.

I don't mind him at that pick ( assuming , Brayshaw, Higgins, Clark and Coffield are gone ) I think he is a real possibility with pick # 13.

He reminds me a bit of Patrick Cripps but with Mundy like disposal.
Also like his positional versatility.
He is a very good user and distributor of the ball.

Absolutely agree with you on that, but what are the chance of either one of Brayshaw, Higgins, Clark or Coffield being available at 13.From what I have seen and heard, they are all likely to be gone before our pick.

Bollocks.

Has a lot of Blaine Boekhorst about him IMO. Handy inclusion but not worth over-reaching for.

I hope we get him, but if Carlton want to overreach at 30 like they did with Boekhorst they can have him. 32 or 37 at the earliest for me.

Pick 13 - Higgins/Brayshaw/Clark - in that order. With Freo getting pick 2 i think one will slide.. i hope

Pick 21 - Brander or Allen - Allen seems to be more talented but lacks the height but if there is a chance he can go from 191 to the 193-194 range he could compliment our forward line for the future. Brander might be taken by Freo at 5 but if he is around our pick he could be a handy replacement for JK.

Pick 26 - Worpel - He might go a lot earlier but he is beast of an inside me that we could do with.

Pick 32 - Lachlan Fogarty - Also not sure if he will be around this pick but he could be a more than handy small mid/forward

Pick 37 - Kelly - Carlton might take him eailer but if that the case than so be it as i do not think we need to reach for him.

Pick 69 - Ryan - Might be early but with us picking up 4 mids in the draft plus ah chee we REALLY need another small forward and worth the risk

I'm glad the club is going back to the draft and improving our position, it shows they are serious about rebuilding our list.

The other aspect I like about today's pick swap is that it shows that

• The list management team has a plan
  
• Rawlings is willing to take risks
• The board/CEO/whoever has to approve these trades is backing him in to take risks and enact their plan

Plus, four 2nd round picks for one 1st & 3rd! That is great work. Thanks to Freo for pushing the Weller deal hard (I assume that's why GC wanted an extra first?)

Not really.

I mean the points difference made up by 37 hardly reflect reality. Even ignoring our drafting history, roughly 30% of 2nd round picks make 100 games. The truth is, top 5 and top 10 picks have a dramatically higher success rate when it comes to delivering higher output.

The points may split the equivalent of a mid second rounder in our favour if we finish bottom 5-10, but simply having that early pick probably has far more intrinsic value than points indicate given the access to talent, and probability of a draftee succeeding not being reflected by the points value of a pick.

Don't get me wrong, I rate the trade, but it does come with risk. Barrett and Wallet have no idea. But I do like the 20 and 25, for 15 and 52 a fair bit better.

The gap for a win is not as high, but it risks far less. Also 20 is not that far from 15.

Carlton can afford to do this because they still have Pick 3 and pick 10 ,Wce risking a single 1st rd Pick is way riskier and why the answer was no .

With josh Kennedy being 31 next year. Time to recruit some tall fwd. Should have done it earlier.... need 2 tall fwds drafted. Increases the chance of one being not a dud
