With josh Kennedy being 31 next year. Time to recruit some tall fwd. Should have done it earlier.... need 2 tall fwds drafted. Increases the chance of one being not a dud

I think we will have one eye on Oscar Allen with 21.

If Sam Taylor or Sam Hayes are available at that range, I'd be happy with them too.

With regards to Kelly would he be a guaranteed best 22 next year. Not borderline but guaranteed? If not, then wouldn't an 18 year old we had to wait on a year have more upside?

Why would an 18 year old who has never played against a man have more upside? The amount of faith AFL clubs and their supporters put into 18 year old kids is unbelievable. The AFL is supposed to be a Best of the best competition, not a kindergarton for player development. For most AFL clubs the 5 year plan starts every year.

Ok working things out.

The main requires 38 - 40 players

Last year we had 39, with 4 main list spots retired in Mitchell, Priddis, Butler and Giles, so 35 before trade period.

Add Ah Chee to main list = 36.

So if we use Picks 12, 21, 26, 32 & 37. Then we have to get rid of 1 of Hill, Wellingham or Lamb.

Things we must avoid this draft:

-half back flankers
-small bodied mids who can only play on the outside

We need at least one, if not two, midfield brutes. Big bodied, contested ball animals, preferably with a turn of speed.

I am actually really happy the club rolled the dice to really have a big crack at this draft, better then sitting idle. Here's hoping we manage to secure some quality midfield talent which will set us up for the next decade. If we can jag a small forward and a key position as well, bonus.

Fogarty will be gone in the first round.
Doubt that. I rate him right on the cusp of 1st and 2nd round but see others having him in the second round.

Darcy Fogarty is a certain first rounder (if not before, I expect Adelaide to pounce at 12). Twomey in his September rankings had Lochlan at 23. A number of TAC followers have him in the 20's.

I'm glad the club is going back to the draft and improving our position, it shows they are serious about rebuilding our list.

I am clearly getting old as I don't think the draft improves your position anymore than the trade can. 18 year olds have no more potential than 22 year olds who are playing league football already.

Clark or constable with our first. Please.

Preferably constable. I think with his size and strength inside he will compliment our younger mids quite well. Good foil for sheed, duggan, venables.

Wasn't expressing my view, just commenting on how I perceived Twomey's write up.
I do not always agree with his ratings but Knightmare usually does his research on Vic boys since he gets to go to a large number of games. Here is his write up on ESPN about Lochlan Fogarty ("a small but hard-nosed midfielder who can also play forward")

Fogarty, who has been one of Western's best in all seven of his games, has been rock solid as a midfielder who can push forward for a goal. The 179cm, 75kg, tackling machine runs both ways and is a solid contested ball-winner. He also displays composure with ball in hand and generally uses it cleanly.

I think he would fit our list needs beautifully. May even get games into him in 2018 as he is less midfield and more crumbing forward.

Freo getting 2 is probably good for us in the end.
They're likely to take at least one tall with 2 or 5 surely?
Means another mid slips down a spot hopefully

Hmmm we just lost Weller and Crozier, and were in the market for a top-line mid already. I suspect we'll go for two mids ahead of a tall

Yep, some kids, and I presume Tim Kelly fits this category, simply aren't ready to go at 18, so much so they get overlooked in the draft.

Unless they are an exceptional kid I would never draft a player who has not played 2nd tier league football. But like I said mate maybe I am just getting old. East perth will be happy though as they get 5 new recruits for 2-3 years.

Very disappointing this trade period thanks west coast [emoji122]

I get the feeling you would have been disappointed if we'd brought in Martin and God himself with pick 26 though. ;)

OK, I should ask, what would you like to have seen done Figure09 ?

Nah, I call it wisdom, in my belligerent way greatwhiteshark. We've seen it all before but what would crusty old so and so's know, eh? ;)

I think it is better they are overlooked when they are not ready don't you? Learn their craft in send tier against men and then be immediately able to make their mark.

Yep, I'd almost take the attitude that you use first rounders for what is perceived the exceptional talent (because the TAC doesn't play them in league comps like the WAFL, SANFL do they?) that haven't had the chance to be exposed to competition against mature bodied men. Then after that it is a crap shoot really, it seems, so you would look to take guys from the SANFL, WAFL, VFL competitions.

Spot on mate but the AFL clubs are all starting their 5 year plan with unknowns instead.

Chances of us getting kissed on the d... and Bonar lasting until 21?

No pun intended

Good chance but I think Richmond like his type and they have pick 20.
