Giving up a first round pick, in a superdraft for a 2nd rounders in what has been described as a weak draft, is mind boggling.
List has to be replenished. Pretty simple.

Get this right and we're creating a great environment for this group of lads to gel and play for each other as they mature in men.

Exciting times ahead.

You've gone into a vanilla draft - where the top end talent dips after the first 5 with picks in the 20-30 range hoping to land one.

It's unbelievably stupid.

Same time last year this was apparently a strong draft... fast forward 12 months and its about the same as every other Year. Dont believe everything you hear champ!

In your opinion?

In anyone's language.

Just lost your midfield core, undoubtedly will slide down the table in 2018 on the back of a new midfield mix taking time to find it's feet, youngsters getting up to speed in the middle, slide down the ladder, that first round pick becomes more valuable.

Just gave it away - for some chump picks in a weaker draft, it's one of the worst decisions I've seen.

Even if the kids from next year's drafts are superstars it will still take a few years for them to come on and then they aren't guaranteed to stay at the club who drafted them. I prefer a club to make do with this year's draft and worry about next year's draft when we get there.

Maybe someone like Freo care about a super draft since they will probably bottom ouf, making it worthwhile.

But it is likely there will be not much difference between GC's 2nd rounder & our 1st rounder.

Eg if GC finish 3rd last = pick 21 (assuming not comp picks); v pick 11 if we finish 8th. The better we are and if GC are really bad then the difference will be minimal.

If the top end talent drops away after pick 5 according to you, we weren't going to get any of that talent at 13 anyway.
The list was heavily turned over, would you rather fill it with top 40 talent or go into the 6th round / pre season draft to fill it? Gives a 12 month head start on the list rejuvenation.

Wrapped with the trade results. Aiming for 5 inside 50 and reaching the goal is a great effort. Seems like we’re on a mission this trade/draft period it’s good to see. If you’re going to trade future picks with anyone Gold Coast is the best team to do it with they will struggle next year

I would imagine that it may well be mind boggling for you, so let me clarify the finer points for you.
Some people have difficulty looking at the whole picture and only look at parts of the trade in isolation, as they don't find it easy to join the dots.

When you give something valuable away you need to get something back that can mitigate that loss.

Yes we did trade away our 2018 first round pick , but also trade back into the mix with Gold Coasts 2018 second rounder.

The Club is backing itself in to improve its position in 2018 and finish higher than we did this year.
Couple that with the likely hood that CG don't improve greatly in 2018 then the draft position slide will be in the range of 7-10 places.

Now in a draft that is touted as been a very deep, the draft pick slide is less significant than in years with a shallow draft, so one could argue that its actually a good time to trade down to pick up extra draft picks, in the here and now.

Bottom line is that Good Organisations back themselves in and its part of the Mojo that we as a Club once had.

Thats why we have :trophy::trophy::trophy:.

Unfortunately we have not seen enough of it in recent years.

I for one am thrilled to see us once again back ourselves in for the here and now.

Nice to have our Mojo back at both the trade table and having "the balls" to back ourselves in come draft night with 5 picks in the top 37.

1) It's not necessarily a weak draft, just 2018 is being hyped up as a much stronger draft from the pundits.

2) The depth of talent in rounds post round one is what defines a "super draft".

3) WCE have four picks in the second round this year, in addition to the first round. This is the best way to replenish.

What's not to like?

Don’t worry champ your club will still be rubbish for years to come

This is the key point. For a ~10 spot downgrade next year at a point in the draft where the talent pool is likely to be fairly even, we've received 2 picks in the upper 20s for this draft (where there are predicted to be some sliders) and upgraded from 50 to 37.

Pretty awesome TBH. Guess Gold Coast figured they could use a slightly higher pick next year more than all the extra picks now?

OR a new midfield mix with added pace and the best tap ruckman in the game makes us completely unpredictable, we surprise early, get our confidence up and get on a roll.

"Undoubtedly will slide" is up there with "5 year rebuild" and "Polak's better than Judd" as a very Freo thing to say.

Would be hard to top extending Lyons contract till 2020 as the worst decision in the last few years.

I am relatively new to this forum , is there a knob head cup with some prestige that you are aiming for ?

Like I said in an earlier post, the competition is fierce on this board. ;) Although I don't think that is fair to be levelled at matt_bas, he generally doesn't compete for the knob head cup with any great success. That is for others you have nominated in this thread.

Yeah, I'm sure NN tapping to Sheed will be pretty dynamic.
