Yeah, I'm sure NN tapping to Sheed will be pretty dynamic.
No but kennedy winning the Coleman will be!!
Don't come onto this board and be sour!
Fremantle will spud up there pics again this year like they always do, so you have no leg to stand on mate!

So do we have 2 2nd round picks for 2018?
Surely we could trade into the 2018 first Round pretty easily if we were that worried!

Also love the way wce went about the trade period, we weren't in a position to get multiple top ten picks so we have done all we can!
Time to bring in some much needed youth/ speed

So in the depths of my insomnia ive found a potential gem trawling youtube i havent heard? Maybe its delirium but he slipped past me Zac Bailey, num 12 first vid 21 in second

I’m doing the same. Found a lad from SA, Nathan Kreuger, 196cm utility, others may know about him but I’ve only just been able to start looking at this years draft group over the past week, so I don’t know anything about him. Not sure if he’s best as a swingman or if he’s best suited being one of a forward or defender, starts at the centre bounces at times too. athletic, quick, reminds me a bit of JK when he pushes up the ground. Monocle anything you can share? I’ve only seen two fairly short highlight videos of him, but from what I’ve seen, if the plan is to take a tall with one of our second rounders I wouldn’t be against picking this lad up.

And I’m glad you posted this about Bailey, because I heard his name called out a few times in some videos but didn’t know a first name and hadn’t seen any of his videos linked. Looks a nice player. His burst of speed and side step is great, doesn’t mind hitting bodies and tackling either and seems a solid mark. Disposal doesn’t look fantastic though. Found a small write up on him on Draft Central which you may have also found. If not I’ve posted it below.
Zac Bailey
Inside Midfielder (Southern Districts/Allies)
23/09/1999 | 181.0cm | 81.1kg
Previous ranking: #27
Scouting notes: Has a great burst of speed and he isn’t afraid to collect the ball and burst out of a stoppage getting distance on himself from his opponents. The right footer is usually a clean kick but can have the odd poor game by foot. Wins the contested ball and tackles well.
Last month: Bailey showed his ability to run both ways in the NAB AFL Under 18 All Stars game on Grand Final day, with 18 disposals, four marks, three rebound 50s, two inside 50s and two clearances. Bailey used his burst in the midfield and spread well from the contests. At the NAB AFL Draft Combine, Bailey’s elite speed was obvious, scoring 2.98s in the 20m sprint event.

So do we have 2 2nd round picks for 2018?

That is correct.

Very good prospect is Bailey and one who should be on our short list for one of the players in consideration for one of our second rounders.
Not a bolter as he is very well known to the scouting fraternity and has been interviewed by ten Clubs.
Originally from the NT thats why he played for the Allies , but he was schooled at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide.
He made the AA Under 18 team and he announced himself as a player of note when he starred in the Allies win over Vic Metro.

In anyone's language.

Just lost your midfield core, undoubtedly will slide down the table in 2018 on the back of a new midfield mix taking time to find it's feet, youngsters getting up to speed in the middle, slide down the ladder, that first round pick becomes more valuable.

Just gave it away - for some chump picks in a weaker draft, it's one of the worst decisions I've seen.

And you have certainly seen a few!

Kreuger is very much the modern day tall as he plays equally well at either end of the ground.
Love his attack at the contest and his preparedness to take the game on, the kid doesn't mind the physicality of the game, which is another aspect of his game that I like. Lovely long left foot on him and he displays the speed and agility that attract attention from recruiters as it gives the added flexability to play on tall's and smalls. Very sticky hands and reliable in the air doesn't get out marked very often.

I would think he would be a name that is in the conversation for a tall with one of our second rounders, he is a hard to peg his draft range .
Could be a second rounder but could also slide to the third.

Talls that should be in our conversation for a second rounder are : assuming Naughton and Brander are gone.

Ballenden ( Lions Academy kid ) that we could bid on at 21. One of my favourite tall's in this years draft, so much up side IMO.
Kreuger.
Balta.
Allen.
Taylor.
Coleman -Jones.
Clavarino.

I also see good value tall's later in the draft:

Miller. .... this kid is a rapid riser and I would not be shocked if the Subiaco lad ( Originally from Kalgoorlie ) made his way into the second round.
McLean.
De Koning.

Why the 2018 draft is deep with quality players.

Wait and see if player movements land us a first.

I don't think there was too much wrong with what Mincho was saying, and being a Freo fan is irrelevant, he didn't make any of their errors.

I really like our move overall but it is still a bigger gamble than we are letting on. The crux of the disagreement is that next year seems like it will have some particularly special talent at the top end in terms of talls. If we finish bottom four then we may have given up that opportunity for a few extra second rounders, which would be a very disappointing result. I'm a lot more bullish on our prospects for next year, but if we slip there is a missed opportunity.
It's alright though. One of them will be included in a package deal with pick 3 when Gaff decides he's going home :p

Five weeks until the big day.

We've all got a lot of work to do between now and then.

Moved on all non - elite players over 28. Create cap space and game time for young players.

Had a dabble at Matera since i think he is a player with considerable ability, is still only 25 and Freo got him for virtually nothing.

Since we would have a lot of spots to fill i would have looked at mature players in early 20's in WAFL/SANFL etc to bring in via rookie draft to fill holes in list as opposed to using 4th/5th/6th round picks or whatever to go after another 17 year old nobody else rated. Because i think that too much emphasis is placed on the 17 year olds and there are probably talented mature age players in secondary comps that are better bets to become solid role players for us than 17 year olds at long odds picks.

It is my personal belief that both draft picks before used and the 17 year olds drafted with them are over valued at the trade table by the general market and existing players are under rated. This is because to both recruiters and supporters a draft pick and/or 17 year old is like a blank canvas. You can project all your hopes on to it. You can imagine in your mind it is going to materialise into a player that is cross between Diesel Williams, Chris Judd and Patty Dangerfield all at once. But when the draft pick or 17 year old draftee becomes a player who is is 2 - 5 years into his career all of his limitations and the fact that he will not become the once in a generation player player you fantasised about in your dreams before and just after drafting them is now evident. Schache is a prime example. He was pick 2 and the next Wayne Carey 2 years ago. Now nobody even wants to cough up a second round pick for him.

So i would do a mass cull, compile cap space by bringing forward contracts, look to fill the holes on list with mature agers and hope 1 in 3 can become a 5 year plus player for us. And have a long hard look at how to use the ample money we have to improve our outcomes in drafting and development.

But this would be a big project. The club would have to condition the supporter base to expect and tolerate a slide down the ladder for next few years. The supporter base is currently not expecting this and if not conditioned to expect and accept it then there will be considerable public pressure on the club. Think Ross Lyon at the start of this season. Every interview he did he kept playing down expectations and telling the supporter base not to expect finals etc. He was relentless at staying on that message in every interview. That is what Simpson and co would have to do.

So sell the farm and take a punt on mature agers who will likely not be any better than what was dumped during a period we have Kennedy, NicNat, McGovern, Yeo, Shuey, Darling and Barrass up the guts?
There is a reason Freo are shit and it would pay not to follow in their footsteps.

Given we love injured draft picks, what's the bet we take Bonar? Would you a boner over that?
I would be OK with that Bonar - provided it wasn't with 13 but fine at 26 provided we nail the prior two picks. J Selwood and Lever have been good picks. Given we have 4 second round picks, we can take a risk on 1.

What's his story. Saw he's done acls last two years? Was it same knee? Where's he projected to go?
Yep, 2 x ACL.

Equalled the standing vertical leap record at the combine, 2nd in 20m sprint, one of the top in agility. 190cm, 89kg.

Huge potential, reckon he'd be top 5 this year if it wasn't for the injury cloud

I saw one poster say we made this trade purely to be able to get Ryan and for no other reason.

The meltdown out Cockburn way would be bigger than Chernobyl if this was to happen, but it won't.

They love their mids down that way and will go for two genuine mids, with the only downside being they will both be Vics (please recruit a couple of Balics).

Naughton will be available at our first, but with no first next year, we need to go for a midfielder which I have no doubt we will.

If you have an alternative opinion explaining why you are so optimistic then feel free to state it. It's more constructive and interesting to read for other posters than just criticising other posters.

I have clearly stated my reasons for why i don't like it. I think the odds of getting somebody who turns out to be a 120 game plus player with picks in range of 25 to 40 in any draft are probably no better than 1 in 8 (Just a wild guess, not something i have statistically tested). Add to the mix that this is weaker than normal draft and our recent draft record is no better than average and i reckon the odds have probably blown out to 1 in 12 or worse with each of those picks.

So i have clearly stated my reasons for not liking it. What are your reasons for thinking it will have a positive outcome?
Fair enough. I don't have any statistical evidence either, but I would wager that 120 game players in the draft range 25-40 would not be too different to players drafted 10-25 ? And I am sure there would be some/many stars in that range. Just have to try our best to identify that talent. So I prefer to be optimistic . Just my sunny disposition :D
