Brayshaw just made a point on MMM that some of us forget occasionally and used Cunnington as an example..

Blokes need games and for most players the first 50 is largely underwhelming, just gotta keep pumping time into them and it will come.

We all like to point out the exceptions to the rule but for 90% of players they take years to adapt and dominate. Billings will be a jet, anyone remember steve Johnson dominating until cats got good? Me neither

I can't speak for others, but I hate Billings being compared to Steve Johnson. Johnson is a dead set animal & has a hard unforgiving edge.

Best comparison for Billings I believe is Mark LeCras

Someone I reckon we ought to be having a really good look at it is WB's Lucas Webb.

Is a terrific size and shape (187cm), can play across HF, rebound off HB, or play in the midfield and has a lethal left foot (and a good right).

Someone on their board on here said that Bevo sees him developing into their version of Luke Hodge, and after initially looking like he might be developed in a rebounding role across HB, they had him playing in the guts for most of last year in the VFL and he just seemed to be high up in their bests week after week there. A look at his profile on their website says that he was actually BOG for them 5 times last year, including in their prelim final win and yesterday he was named their best yet again.

Obviously he struggled to break into their team when he was playing across HB, because they had Murphy, JJ, Boyd and then Suckling and Biggs there and now he's behind the likes of Bont, Libba, Dahlhaus and co in the midfield, yet he averaged 26 disposals per game in the VFL last year and with his kicking being so good is surely a level above there, so he is a really good potential moneyball option for a club that can give him more opportunities. We could do with his kicking in a big way for starters.

I remember watching him dominate a champs game against Vic Metro in 2014, where he was kicking goals, taking marks, sidestepping and doing tough stuff and hitting Paddy on the tit with bullet passes. It was precisely a Luke Hodge type game. If he ever manages to put it all together like that consistently at AFL level he could be A-grade.

Played with Paddy, Hugh and Lonie for VC, so we might appeal as a destination if he's still not getting a regular look in at WB by the end of the year (his 3rd).

A first rounder is one to 18. He is still closer to 18 than one I would think. Its a huge year for Billings. 4th year for a medium should see him getting close to his best. The funny thing I fond with him is he gets a reasonable amount of possessions but for a good kick has little impact on the game. I just don't get that.
He was rated the 2nd best midfielder in the land 3 years ago behind Kelly.
He's going to be a very good player. You think the club doesnt rate him? They just put all the development years into him to let him go for some shitty end of 1st round pick. No chance.

3rd best player in the draft. Definitely not a midfielder

Was more making a point on development... i see him as a more Robbie gray clone.
What, Robbie Gray? I wish! Gray has had more contested possessions than uncontested in each of his last two seasons and has averaged just a tick under 7 clearances per game over those two years (which is more than Steven averaged last year for us, or Armo in 2015, to put that into perspective). He is beastly on the inside, while Jack is about as far the opposite of that as you get.

I concur with ARR.

Billings is nothing like Gray

LeCras is the closest you'll get. Outside-type half forward with x-factor who occasionally has a run through the middle (wing)

Tracking like a short, poor man's Jackson Macrae. Was hoping he'd be Nathan G. Brown 2.0 when he was drafted.

Not writing him off as a winger. Have just always seen him as a mercurial forward.

To be honest I couldn't care what he did 5 years ago. And I'm sure the club do rate him. As for what he went for I was discussing that. I was saying what his vale is and its close to 18 than one.

I reckon he'd be worth more than that. His stats don't look bad and unless he has a pretty poor 2017 his value should hold. Kelly has had some pretty poor games as well as excellent ones and is at around 75 games compared to about 45 for Billings. The talk is $9 million for Kelly and two first round picks so a player who is very high potential is going to be attractive and I reckon he's showed enough for someone to think he's worth around what we got him for. Make or break year though, if he doesn't fire after 50 games and 4 years he's probably worth a pick in the 20s and every year after that would drop another 10 to 20 spots.

I get that.. what I'm saying is gray wasn't always this good, he was a silky flanker who moved into full time mid..
