It's impossible to say with any kind of certainty that one player will be better than another on stats though. He might ba as good, better or worse but stats from the exact same age won't show anything other than a rough guide. He looks very good but to me he's always going to be a diamond encrusted Andrew Gaff more than a Paddy Dangerfield. He's going to be at least a very good player you would imagine regardless. I think he hasn't earned the right to be held in the same conversation yet or earn the same pay as the stars but hopefully if we take him he will get there.
FMD. You need to watch more GWS games if you think he's a diamond encrusted Gaff. He gets more contested ball than anyone in our team. In fact, he would walk into our team as our best player.

Not sure if it's been said, but Kelly is going better than Shiel & Treloar were 2 years ago when everyone on here was wanting to sell the farm for them & pay them a mint. Well, Josh Kelly is better now than both those players were at the time so it should give an idea of how good he is & what he's worth long term.

Pay him a mint. Don't give a shit what we pay him, we have $2.9mil to spend

Edit: I agree with SS, Kelly is like an injury free Daniel Wells with better endurance & gut running capabilities. I'd pay a mint for that

i dont care what the option is, but we cnat be going into next season with the same ruck dilema we have had this year, where its a developing billy longer and an absolutely shite tom hickey with nothing below it

we need a good functioning ruck outfit for our finals push. i think we have to cut hickey loose and find a ready made option to give billy some competition

If we followed it to a tee then where are our A graders, so that means we didn't or we ****ed up and should rethink what we are doing.
Refresh my memory. Pelchan said in his outline in August 2013 to members in a face to face that we were after how many A graders and where from?

He said we would draft and trade and from 2016 onwards we would look at FA.

Can't remember anything about A grade players being spelt out.

Maybe I am wrong. Could you help me out?

Reverse last season. You sound like Hickey has had 5 bad years.

We have not followed it to a tee.

Not hysterical, someone said two first rounders wouldn't be enough to.
How has it not been followed to a tee?

I was there the night Pelchen set out the plan & it has actually unfolded better than they had planned to this point.

You don't think Hickey will come good or improve?

By hedging on Billy, the club has put itself in a tricky situation by forcing Tom to look elsewhere.

Anyway, Goldy won't happen. Better hope that Billy improves.

I think it was something like 12 first round picks over 4 years...

Billings
Paddy
Dmac
Acres
Gresh
Freezer
Steele?
Billy

Who am I missing?

You can throw Jake in there as well.

Goddard
Dunstan

You can remove the ? next to Steele's name as GWS matched Norf's pick 15 for him & thus took him with their next pick which was around 23-24 in 2014. Technically, if the current bid system was in in 2014, he'd be a pick 15 & yes that's a 1st rounder ;)

Fwiw, Koby & Jake were back to back picks in 2009 - picks 23 & 24 respectively. Both Early/mid 2nd rounders

Are you serious? There was absolutely no mention of A Grade talent, the strategy spoke of additional 1st round picks (which was achieved through the trading of McEvoy & then Stanley (that got us an early 2nd rounder & we were lucky enough to get a kid rated much higher in Goddard)

You're either mistaken or being misleading on purpose to fit your argument.

You can argue the kids chosen are not yet A Graders but that is an argument about development, not going away from a plan.

And all those players selected are still works in progress. All have the talent to be A Grade players IMO.

So all first round picks are A graders?
Dont think so.

So there was never any mention of A graders, just something made up to further an argument?

OK. Thanks for confirming.
Exactly. Blokes aren't A-graders after 2,3,4 seasons.... May as well delist & start again then :drunk:

Confirmed.

Increase 1st round picks by 50% over a 3 year period. This was a bit confusing & misquoted but achieved by trading Ben & Rhys & then continued on with the addition of JC, Steele, etc

And grasping at straws with a couple of those, fmd freezer and dmac but apparently were right on track.
