Sounds like Zac Jones is close to signing with Sydney. You would think the contract we would be able to offer would be much larger than the one he'd be getting at Sydney.

That might suggest that we aren't amthat keen on him, or it could suggest he's extremely happy in Sydney, who knows to be honest.

I just put this in the General AFL thread but will put it here too.

Josh Schache just re-signed with Brisbane
Haha, that's hilarious, Tiges and Pies miss out there, certainly a surprise!

MUCH better for the game though (in particular footy in Qld of course).

Not necessarily ideal for us if we don't do a big trade and take the Hawks pick to the draft though. Brissy will almost certainly have no need to go tall with pick 1 now and Carlton are apparently looking midfield as well, so the best midfield options could be gone by the Hawks pick, if we still have it.

Another option could be that they've prioritised him and that his sig will squeeze someone else out, perhaps from their stacked midfield?

I rate Josh Kelly but to give up say picks 4 and 8 with only a second rounder back is Ridiculous. Have a look at picks 20+ over the last 6 years and there aren't many players that actually make it at all.

As good as he is, the kid is no Dangerfield that can carry a team on his shoulders week in week out plus eat away 1+ million of our salary cap.

I'd target someone like Z.Jones (exactly what we need as well to replace Montagna) and another youngish player looking to move from GWS etc.

Geary Brown Roberton
Jones Carlisle Webster

That is a mouth watering half back line which wouldn't cost the world. Next year i can see Jones moving onto the wing and with his speed and kicking accuracy would be lethal.
Why focus on the pick 20 only? We are not trading 4 and 8 for 20.

Chances are it would this and next year's first anyway.

We need class mids, and to get them you pay up.

Anyway, if the club didn't think it was a good deal, they won't do it.

Hawthorn has GWS's 2nd rounder. GWS have ours & Pies 2nds (currently picks 25 & 26)

Also worth noting that due to a 1000 draft points penalty, GWS's 1st rounder is currently a voided pick, ie: it's been removed from the draft. At present, GWS's first pick in the draft is our pick 25 (for Jack Steele last year)

If we're giving them 4 & 8 for Kelly, I'd be wanting Himmelberg or Matt Kennedy thrown in as well.

It's a good point you raise about Kennedy and HH. If Kelly does nominate us, maybe we go all-in and offer them all 3 of our R1 DP's for Kelly and one of those two, or Hopper. Perhaps with a 2nd rounder coming back our way depending on which of the other 3 we got.

Because we would be asking something back as there is no way Kelly is worth 4,8 on his own. There is no chance a first round pick is coming back our way from GWS as then they would be getting shafted in that trade deal. They would offer us back a mid 20's pick if anything.

More likely we offer 4 or 8 and our 1st pick next year. 4 and 8 is clearly overs even for Kelly you'd think.

What about if we trade out 1 of the rucks for an early 20s pick or better and that goes with the hawks pick for kelly? More?

I hate other teams!
Yep, bloody oath, very nice fall-back position if we don't land any trades worthy of those picks.
I've been looking at a few videos of Darcy Fogarty, and while he appears to be a great utility prospect, it looks like there's a fair bit of 'big kid beating up on little kids' about him. Thoughts?

It might make a team that wants a key forward more interested in our pick though. Not sure who that would be though and it wouldn't really help us with a trade for Kelly, but it could give us an overall win if we found someone really interested in a trade.

I'm not one to subscribe to that theory really, as if they're beating up on those who are smaller than them in the juniors, they will be able to do the same as soon as straight away at AFL level as well. It's not like everyone in the AFL is 193cm and 90kg+. Like we're seeing with Sam Powell-Pepper this year and have seen with guys like Dusty and Wines in recent years.

Reckon he'll probably be gone by our Horks pick if we still have it though.

Yep, absolutely. If our pick is right around where the "talls" (eg. Brander, Sutherland, Hayes and maybe Balta) are expected to start being picked, we could get a club desperate for our pick and we may get an "overs" offer for it, giving us more currency for a deal with GWS (if Kelly asks to be traded to us).

GWS might not like the idea of say 3 firsts rather than 2 higher ones, but if that's the case and they want the Hawks pick desperately, they'll lose a lot of their ability to play hardball on the trade and if we do give them the Hawks pick, they won't get as much with it as they otherwise would have.

That will have a domino effect .
Dusty will stay at Richmond .
His contract just went up $500,000 per season
Domino effect to an extent sure.
But not 500k worth.

If the tigs have identified they need a young kpf, that need doesnt disappear just because schade has.

They cant tie all their money up in dusty
