Mick Warner from the HS says North are all but out of the running for Josh Kelly. Also goes on to say JK looks increasingly likely to stay at GWS.

I'll cop that. As long as we don't lose him to another Vic club
True.. But it will still suck a bit if we don't get jelly and land no one and North get Martin, even though theyre selling the farm to get him and will screw the balance of their list... Will stuff them up completely IMO if they pay him 1.5-6

We still desperately need someone good...

We haven't done a lot of trading out recently ... I think this year could be the year .. we have some players I reckon we can afford to get rid of and use for other players or build a strong draft position..

Wellar - been disappointing this year and I reckon can be easily covered on his position.. would be worth something reasonable

Lonie - may look to leave and we should look to get something if he wants out

Hickey - too good a player to be playing sandy, we can cover longer well enough with Pearce, Holmes even Marshall... cash in for a decent pick

Mckenzie - would hope not but if there's others a head of him it could be an option

Armo - completely surplus to our requirements imo.. send him to a club who needs him
Wouldn't get much more than a couple of second rounders for the lot of them, even if we could find takers.

Unfortunately I'll also have to give the group wank a miss.

I overdid it at the wanking training session during the week and now I have a very sore foot.
Spacey I wouldn't have thought you'd need any training mate.
Saintos, you're obviously just a GOP*

It's those extra sessions that you put in that help you attain, and maintain, an elite level of performance

All I know about Kelly and Martin is that they haven't put pen to paper.

Now we are 2 weeks out from finals and people think that they are going to do what?.

Run for campaigner of the year by announcing on the eve of the finals that their leaving.

Shut up and play a straight bat until the season is over and then make their intentions known.

Josh Kelly probably smiles and winks at every second person who asks what he's doing, are you staying at the Giants wink, are you off to the saints rye smile, are off to north lol.

Best time of year for sports journo's print any shit you like without any source except some random at the tab and get thousands of clicks. By the time trade week is over you must have arsed 1 so you claim that and forget the rest.

Unless we blow off a few digits our worst result is 2 top ten picks.

NO Saints
Get Kelly more than ever. Steven showed yesterday why Kelly is so important to our future success. Not looking great but until he signs we are a shot.
Yes. Cant tag them all.

Would like to mention the improvement of Billy Longer. I believed Hickey was our best option but Billy has come on significantly this season.
Loved how he beat Gawn last week and Gawn sooked about it.
Gave our mids first use and an untagged Steven ran rampant.

Giving that service to a midfield of Ross and Steven with fast improving Dunstan and Steele and workhorse Stevens plus hopefully Kelly will really put us in good stead in 18

We want GWS to go out in straight sets.

No heartbreaking loss in their prelim or granny just a straight humiliating defeat times 2 that makes Kelly want to leave.

A flag would be the second best option.
We have no idea what drives individual players.

With Kelly it may simply be a strong desire to come "home", to once more live among family and friends.

And if that's so, then the fate of GWS this year will have little or no influence on what he intends to do in 2018 and beyond.

Premierships are important to players, and become increasingly so as the get to the wrong end of their careers. However they are not neccessarily the most important factor to all of them.

We lost Cripps to homesickness.

Let's hope we can gain a vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, superior player due to the same factor :)

Just been chatting with a Carlton mate. Seriously I am going to spew if I hear anymore of 'Carlton are doing well’ or 'the blues rebuild looks good'.

Simpson, Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer are 4 of their 6 best players, and all will be over 29 next season. The following players will all be over 25 next year:

Thomas, A.Silvani, Rowe, White, Palmer, E.Curnow, Sheehan, Jones, Phillips, Gorringe, Smedts, Lamb, Buckley, Kerridge, Sumner and Brokenhorse

Seriously there is 1 good player among that 25-29 group. And that is Liam bloody Jones.

Along with Casbault leaving, and Armfield and Simpson probably retiring – that is almost 20 list changes needed before I even start picking on spuds such as Kirsten Jacksh and Nick Graham.

Yes Cripps and Docherty are stars, SPS and Curnow have shown glimpses, and Plowman, Weitering and Marchbank a good back 3. Silvani and Fisher I will cop at a stretch

But after those players (and the 4 over 29) they begin naming guys like McKay, Pickett, Cunningham and Macreadie who have barely played 10 games between them. Remember how many players we had who are going to be great (before they actually played) but never kicked on (when they actually did)? Maybe half of these guys make it. Maybe

Then yes they have the new good draft picks. But by the time these new picks start impacting (and that is still a maybe), 4 of their best 6 players will be gone.

They just barely avoided the spoon for the fifth time in 12 years and can’t kick even close to 100 points.

Oh and just for fun. Hypothetically if we get Kelly for two firsts:

We would have traded 2 firsts, a second and a third to GWS
For Josh Kelly, Josh Bruce & Jack Steele

Carlton will have traded 3 firsts, 2 seconds, 3 thirds and a fifth to GWS
For Jaksch, Whiley, Lamb, Sumner, Plowman, Phillips, Marchbank, Pickett, Palmer, a second and pick 19 which they used on Blaine Brokenhorse

There are a lot of things I am worried about in our rebuild. Carlton is not one of them.

Curnow is an absolute freak.

Carlton are a couple of years behind, but their rebuild is going about as well as their supporters could hope at this point IMO.
Yep. Very jealous of Charlie Curnow. Hugeee tank.

I thought this image really gives us an idea of who has stepped up this year (green arrows). Not surprising it is all the older blokes dropping away. If this continues we a few more additions we'll be flying.

That premierships still come in brown paper bags (Kelly and Hopper together will come for their first and next years second ... because SOS)

That McKay and Weitering will be their big forwards (Sure. That's why you draft the best defender in the land. To make him a forward)

And because of that their spine is set. They just need mids - same as us (because Jones, Rowe, Kruzer, Weitering and McKay is roughly the same long term as Brown / Goddard, Carlisle, Longer, Bruce and Paddy)

That Gibbs, Kruezer and Murphy all still have 5 good years left (I wont even bother with that)

That their trading has been top class (see GWS comment above). Best he came up with aside from Marchbank was Wright (even though they didn't actually trade for him)

That they have only just started this rebuild and it will be different this time (because having a few young superstars and a bunch of busts outside the top 20 and recycled junk sounds nothing like last time)

And some typical Carlton comments about premierships, finances and being able to buy St.Kilda (the fact that they have won twice as many wooden spoons and played off in less grand finals / prelim finals since it has been the AFL didn't count)

Should really have just shut up and told him about the magic beans I have to sell

Whilst Kelly is an absolute A grade gun he won't alone propel us into top 4/flag contention.

The club will be busy during the off/pre season. We need:
- Kelly + more quality through the door
- development & improvement from current StK players
- Skills/goal kicking improvement
- coaching/tactical improvements across all lines
- luck
Pre season = (Run 3K, 10 set shots, 10 shot on the run) X10 everyday... this may be slightly excessive, but face-palming way too much.
