I'd be more than happy to trade Hawthorn's pick, as well as next years first and second for Kelly but jeez I really hope we can hang onto our first for this year. Really like the look of some of the mids in this draft.

And then next year we will like someone as well. I think you just get rid of the picks in the current year.

Joey saying in an Herald Sun article about him calling Friday nights game on triple m that's he still in "limbo" but a "few scenrios" are being presented.

Wouldn't be surprised if he is offered the rookie role Schneider had and Fish was offered.

I think that would be a very poor way to treat a star player. If we don't think we need him then we should talk him into retirement.

The second youngest team in the comp with Roo/Joey/Dempster all gone.

Exciting times!
Yesterday's 22 consisted of 17 players who still have more upside..
"Exciting times" there's no doubt.
We must add 2 or 3 outside players with polish & speed, a fit Paddy & we're capable of top 4 next year..

Quite the opposite.

I think we will see more and more teams put their older stars on the rookie list and keep them as playing coaches for a year or two.

Mick Warner from the HS says North are all but out of the running for Josh Kelly. Also goes on to say JK looks increasingly likely to stay at GWS.

I'll cop that. As long as we don't lose him to another Vic club
Why then is Kelly looking to buy a home now in the Bayside area?

I doubt anyone will do it because it wont exist soon. And the game is far to professional for any type of playing coach these days.

Think the club would be keener to hold on to next years first - the 2018 draft is being hyped as the next 'super draft'.
I swear every year I hear how the next year the draft is better lmao

FWIW, have a kid this year and exposing him to AFL for a year>a speculative kid next year in my books.

Not sure if you're being dense or merely argumentative but opportunity cost.

Rather have a player this year and an added year of development than a one in another year.

Obviously if the player this year is Richard Tambling and the player next year is GAJ then it's different but it's all speculative at this stage
Yep likely to get a top 10 pick this year and hopefully next year we are playing for a top 4 spot. I would definitely look to do our FR pick from 2017 and the first from 2018 and take the Hawks pick to the draft. A pick 7 this year should be a very good player and as you said he will be a year further into his career.

I understood that but you used speculative pick for next year. It sounded pretty emotive as this year is speculative as well. I still say its a feel good thing to have a pick this year but then we will complain when we don't have one next season.

I'm sure we will do what is best but if GWS kick their heels in I doubt we would let him go just because of what may happen next season. If we want Kelly we must pay just about whatever is needed to get him.

"Hollywood" Warner just another typical HUN journo blowing his own trumpet..
If Kelly is to stay , why not pen to paper allowing the club to focus on this year's flag..
In addition, their list management team can plan for the trade/draft period knowing their position.

I would think he cost two firsts and the Giants have a pretty strong focus on staggering high picks. If they can get a pick this year and one next year it's a pretty solid deal.

I thought this image really gives us an idea of who has stepped up this year (green arrows). Not surprising it is all the older blokes dropping away. If this continues we a few more additions we'll be flying.

A sleeper is a strong piece of wood

A sleeper is used to carrying heavy loads

Beware coz of danger

Wood + carrying their team

Sleeper = dangerwood

Code broken. Dangerwood for our 2 firsts.

Ps: WHEN we land dangerwood, it wont be the only wood I'll be sporting.

Forget this first round stuff. Pick 1 is first round and so is 18. Why would they take 9 or 10 when they can have 6 or 7 and why would they take next year if they thought we could improve quickly. A bird in the hand.

Where was the emotion my friend?

It's time value, $100 today is better than $100 in a year cause you can invest with that $100 and get maybe $104.

Now for argument sake lets say next year's draft is better and our players worth $102 instead of this years draft of $100, do we back our player development to make the $2 gap within the year of elite environment and training.

Whilst this is factitious obviously I can't imagine any club wanted a player next year over a current one this year.

So GWS aren't thinking the same as you? Seen we are using examples lets say we get a dunstan type next year and a Ross type this year. Who has the immediate impact?
