Yeah listening to AFL trade radio, He's very talented, just means Lonie wouldnt be playing.

Will have two very talented guys in Smith and Gresh which could rotate through mid and small forward
Perfect pressure player but also freaking talented! If we added him and Hall would go a long way to improving our ball movement and leg speed..

Really would love smith at the saints! Get him and go to draft with 7 and 8

Go for big fish in FA next year .. club continues to move forward and leaves us in good stead

Being realistic getting a elite mid for 7 and 8 isn't going to win us a flag next year... trust that we have elite mids on the horizon already in our great club

Hickey and next years second for Smith and their future 2nd? Hickey contracted and Smith not. I know people have bashed Hickey but he would still be one of the better prospects running around as their teams second string ruckmen.
what about a 3rd string half forward Weller

I'll be flat if we don't take 7 and 8 to draft... you wanna win a flag you draft best young talent and nurture them to develop organic love for the club (Richmond with Dustin Martin good example) and then when you are well and truly in the window go out and get what you need to get there

I'm GetASaintUpYa that's my take

If we get Devon Smith I’ll be ecstatic. Extremely talented mid/fwd with great goal sense. Opportunity starved in a stacked giants midfield and could really blossom being a regularly midfielder resting fwd.
Wouldn’t cost the world but is all class and will make us a more polished side.

I hate other teams!
I'm sure you felt the same about Richmond this time last year...

Rofl. Tigers were heavily linked to Prestia. That's a lot more exciting than any name that's been heavily linked to us in the last 5-6 weeks.

Richmond also have 4 A grade stars in their team & in their prime - Martin, Cotchin, Riewoldt & Rance...

How many genuine A-graders in their prime do we have?

Steven.... and..... *crickets*

Billings and Carlisle are A graders.
I will fight anyone who disagrees.

All those players are 26-28 years old and joined prob around the time we were in our flag window.

We have Steven (not 2017 Steven) and then heaps of potential, as these players were 4-6 years ago.

Seb Ross has 2-3 years to get there.

Billings, Gresham, Sinclair and Acres look like they have the potential.

McCartin, if he gets on the field presumably as he was a #1 pick.

If 4 A Graders and a bunch of C Graders is the premiership formula then we definitely have the potential on our list.

How is that a melt? Just clearly stating how it is if we don't land anyone in trade period & take picks 7 & 8 to the draft as per Joff's post
Our best prospects are all under 25, you were going on like drafting two kids is a bad thing and no one wants to come to us before trade period has even started?

I spent much of Monday highlighting why I’d be happy if we do in fact miss out on Stringer...
However, despite the media reporting he’s leaning towards Essendon or Geelong I get the feeling we’re still well in the mix.
For the record, I don’t have any inside info, something just seems amiss.

It would be disappointing. Surely 2018 is a year where the aim is to make & win at least one final - Club's 'blueprint' for the future was to be top 4 in 2018

With the retirements of Riewoldt, Montagna & Dempster, & only adding 2 raw 18-19yr old kids, I dont see how that happens.

Havent won a final for 7 years... Pretty bloody disgusting to be honest.

Millions in the cap, hot picks to burn & no one wants to come :(
Poor bubba

Billings will too.

Very weird that Geelong aren't into Smith. I suppose they have too much on their plate - potentially Stringer and Ablett..
Billings is rated Elite in every category relevant for a forward except goal conversion, where he is having an elite amount of shots.
If he isnt an A grader with that output, no half forward ever will be.
And he still has the scope to improve further. He has the ability to be top 5 in the comp, not just an A grader.

I don't mind Richo, but I heard on SEN that that's what Richmond focused on in the past year. Instead of working on their weaknesses, working on exploiting their strengths. I really felt like that helped them approach this year's finals series in a far more positive way than the Saints did when we made it. Obviously, that was Ross rather than Richo.
I've found a few of the comments from Balme post GF win absolutely fascinating.

Like you said.......Hardwick coached the team and formulated a game plan to the players strengths.....not their weaknesses......and it worked.

Can't help but wonder that Richo had his type of game plan formulated but the players couldn't pull it off a lot of the time........round pegs in square hole situation.

Thus his at times big frustration post game.

When Balme said that the Rich players instructions during the season were not to kick backwards....less possessions count but more wins......that certainly raised my eyebrows.
