Yeah Cotchin was a top 10 pick, Dusty a top 10 pick, JRoo and Rance high picks. Yeah they are shit. It was all Prestia and Caddy that made them win.
How unscientific of you. The value of a commodity includes the probabilities of both success and failure. This is obvious.

My only concern about Smith is his ability to put on manic pressure. Richmond and the Bulldogs the previous year have shown that's where the game is at now. Billings, Gresham, Smith and resting midfielder in the front half sounds amazing from a pure footballing point of view, but wouldn't say any of them are elite in pressure.

This is the problem the Giants are having, all guns, no pressure.

If we get Devon Smith I’ll be ecstatic. Extremely talented mid/fwd with great goal sense. Opportunity starved in a stacked giants midfield and could really blossom being a regularly midfielder resting fwd.
Wouldn’t cost the world but is all class and will make us a more polished side.
Said this a few times that we would likely look at promising talent lime Steele us we don't land a big fish. It fits in with our recent strategy, and so does Smith

I've found a few of the comments from Balme post GF win absolutely fascinating.

Like you said.......Hardwick coached the team and formulated a game plan to the players strengths.....not their weaknesses......and it worked.

Can't help but wonder that Richo had his type of game plan formulated but the players couldn't pull it off a lot of the time........round pegs in square hole situation.

Thus his at times big frustration post game.

When Balme said that the Rich players instructions during the season were not to kick backwards....less possessions count but more wins......that certainly raised my eyebrows.
Ripping post. I 100% agree. It is the easiest thing in the world to say "We don't have the cattle". The reality is that on paper, the last 2 premiers didn't have the cattle either. I think the whole "The game plan is awesome, the players just don't know how to implement it yet" type mentality is incredibly dangerous.

It is pretty much the equivalent of a company that thinks they sell a market leading product that nobody understands yet. Maybe one day the market will get it and you will become rich. More likely you will go broke before anybody realises what you sell is actually awesome.

The most damning aspect of Richo's season for me was the pre-season promise we would play daring football and use the guts a lot more. We actually regressed in this area, and pretty sure we finished stone cone last for corridor play. If the players can't execute what the coach wants then there is something wrong. Our list is not great, but it is not terrible either. If we have so clearly failed to deliver what was a primary objective at the start of the year, then questions need to be raised. Maybe Richo has too many competing KPI's that can't realistically be executed simultaneously?

More than ever, the last couple of years show you need an elite strategist to pull off flag. Richo might be adequate as a coach, but he sure as hell is not cutting edge. Everything about the club screams conservative to me at the moment. From our coaching, to what we offer players to come to the club etc.

I think Richo is absolutely massive to our fortunes next year. If he does not radically change his approach over the offseason we can expect more of the same, 7 years without finals and counting.

For Smith? No way.
Not worth this years first, let alone next years first in a better draft.
Call me negative but see our pick being around the same mark next year, unless we get multiple guns in.
Back ourselves to be higher up the ladder - next years draft may or may not be better, we may pick a dud.

Absolutely. Would have loved an A Grader, like the rest of our supporter base however missing out on one doesn’t mean we’d be inactive. Ameet and Trout know that we need more elite level talent and Smith certainly has the capacity to be that.

Again Richo is just part of the coaching panel, not convinced about our current assistants

The same reason we got steele... is the same reason we aren't a chance with guys like dev smith.

We were whispering sweet nothings into steeles ear for a long time... making him feel the love- we only had eyes for him. etc

Other clubs have been doing the same with smith, while we've been off chasing dusty and jelly.

We did the right thing chasing the big fish- but it comes at the cost of being too late to the smaller fish party.
Definitely sounds like we are just making up the numbers.
At least we can confirm the club hasn't been ignoring him

"Meanwhile, the Giants' Devon Smith is entertaining offers from Collingwood, Essendon, St Kilda and Carlton, according to his manager Ned Guy."

Devon Smith. Arrogant little selfish **** that thinks he's better than what he is

Pass please
Agree. Lets get. We need arrogant selfish campaigners.

So sick of our goody two shoes running into an open goal and instead of kicking it, does the unselfish thing and tries to hand it off.

Cost us multiple goals this year. More Greene like campaigner less, hand it off for a point.

I would trade both Dunstan and Armo both are extremely slow and average kicks at best. I'm different to everyone I actually think the top 20 in this years draft is reasonably strong, if we where to get some late teen picks somehow I'm very confident we would pick up some real talent that would fill our needs

He averages 5-6 tackles a game - pressure is fine. Probably the reason it was so pronounced with the Giants this year was because he was injured!

FMD people wanting to pass on required players because of potential cost, less than perfect personality, a random tweet... or whatever.

Here's an idea...

Let's do nothing. Go to the draft. Draft a bust. Stay mid table.

Then we can spend the next two years on here melting, bagging the club and calling for Richo to be sacked.

Because that seems what most people on here prefer to do by the looks of it.

Don't like my observation?
