Carlton are seemed to be front runners for Smith due to their GWS connections.

Collingwood also up there due to Smith being good mates with Taylor and was also coached by Buckley in his Jnr days.

We are probably behind the 8 ball because of this, but what we can offer him is more midfield time, a good contract and we are obviously closer to the eight than the other two.
Brucey and Steele would probably tell him the grass in greener

With the exception of the trade whisperer dropping the Shiel bomb, and a little bit of noise around Gaff there's very little mention of the Saints in trades. I don't know whether that means we've got something really big up our sleeves or if we're going to the draft.
We really haven't a clue what their planning down at Seaford........it's pretty much all guess work from anyone outside the club.....as we know....that could be bad or it could be good.

Love to be a fly on the wall during the daily planning meetings.

I'm very confident they will make the right calls for the long term good of the club.

If it's coin and midfield time then surely we are a big chance.

Personally, I'd be happy with Rockliff as a free agent, Hall for a future second, and take 7&8 to the draft for Naughton (ready to go) and O'Brian.

Sloane in next year after we make finals. Aim for a prelim in 2019.

I would never have thought we were seriously into Devon Smith until today when his manager spoke. So hopefully there's plenty more of that stuff going on quietly, away from the media.

Saints right in this:
  • Better colours
  • Better supporters
  • Better colours
  • Steele used to buy him coffees at some trendy inner Sydney hipster café
  • Better colours
  • Bruce used to make the coffees that Steele used to buy him at some trendy inner Sydney hipster café
  • Better colours

There is nothing wrong with the our kicking.

There's plenty wrong with how stuffed our guys are when taking a shot at goal.

Either they aren't fit enough or the gameplan is too strenuous. (Maybe both?)

No matter how much kicking coaching you've had....technique goes out the window when your legs are jelly and your heart is beating out of your chest at 200bpm.
I'm interested as to how the hell you know this?

Unless you were inside the club, it's really hard to know that the problem is fitness.

We were missing shots we should have kicked in the first ten minutes of a game, how do explain this?

And I don't buy this game plan is too strenuous stuff. Richmond just won a flag from a high intensity, high pressure game plan.

I have said this before, and I'll say it again. Regardless of who we get in via trade or free agency, our on field performance is going to be based on the growth within our team - Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Sinclair, Gresham, Webster, White, Freeman, McCartin - these players will have a greater say on how we go next season.

Hawthorn have presented us with a remarkable opportunity, providing us, not just one, but two first round, single-digit draft picks. We haven't had many, and given where we are at (hopefully pushing into finals for the first time) I believe we would be better placed to support the long term future of our club by either:

a) taking these picks to the draft
b) trying to trade up to a top 4 draft pick and an early second rounder (GCS, Bris)

I know we are all depressed about how the season panned out, but a new season brings new opportunities, and besides 1 or 2 games, Riewoldt and Montagna didn't win games off their own boot, it was the lesser lights who stepped up. They will do this again.

Get Hall for a second rounder.
Pick up Talia for free in a position we lack depth in.
Draft two solid contributors

If we keep the picks I would love Higgins, Coffield, Brayshaw with Cerra as a slider - if we trade up, give me LDU, Rayner and Clavarino, Ling as a second rounder.

FIRSTS

FB: Geary, Brown, Savage
HB: Roberton, Carlisle, Newnes
R: Longer, Ross, Armitage
C: Sinclair, Dunstan, Steven
HF: Gresham, McCartin, Billings
FF: Weller, Bruce, Membrey
IC: Hall, Acres, Gilbert, Steele

SECONDS

FB: Rice, Goddard, White
HB: McKenzie, Talia, Webster
R: Hickey, Stevens, Lonie
C: Freeman, Minchington, Phillips
HF: O'Kearney, Marshall, Long
FF: Pierce, Battle, Wright
IC: Holmes, Higgins, Coffield, etc.
I would change Webster for Newnes , Newnes for Armo , an Armo back to seconds until he is match fit and in form . Not sure about Weller being in the ones straight away either , will depend on pre season form , maybe Long , Lonie or even Higgins or Coffield depends on who we get of course.

And of course we have to fit Sandy players in the seconds .

  • As far as distance goes we are further away from Jake Stringer, which means you or someone close to you will be less likely to be sexually harassed

Billings will too.

Very weird that Geelong aren't into Smith. I suppose they have too much on their plate - potentially Stringer and Ablett..
I'd say they're struggling under salary cap pressure. I reckon there is an opportunity to squeeze a Motlop for Armo type trade, if we agreed to pay Armos wage for a year.

Not to mention that a solid goal kicking routine is exactly what you need when your legs are jelly and the pressure is mounting. Luke Shuey ring a bell?

GOAL KICKING expert Ben Dixon says dedicated goal kicking programs are guaranteed to improve players’ set-shot accuracy within one year.

Clubs such as Richmond, St Kilda and Western Bulldogs continue to be dogged by inaccurate goal kicking with the three clubs kicking a combined 40 goals 54 behinds at the weekend.

Dixon was adamant goal kicking was one of the most neglected and overlooked areas of the game and said every team should have a specialist goal kicking coach.

weren't they also both taken in the top 10 of their respective drafts!?

Please go and stand in the corner and think about what you've said.

Caddy got Gold coast a nice return from Geelong and so did Prestia so they did okay despite them not being absolute A grade guns. I'm just saying you could count on one or two hands the amount of guns that have exchanged clubs in the last decade.

You are much more likely to end up with your top line talent coming from the top 10 of the draft than by trading for them.

Perfect pressure player but also freaking talented! If we added him and Hall would go a long way to improving our ball movement and leg speed..
Could come out of the middle so fast that natural footballers like McCartin and Membrey really shine.

with Cripps i dont recall him every being chatty or anything with any of our players after games when we played .. almost like he has no mates at our club ...
I suspect that there's not too many still at our club who were playing when he was there....

Speaking of which....I was cleaning up files last week and came across a 2014 team pic.....all the players pics on one side....numbered 1 to 46......the whole team photo on the other side.

For the fun of it......wondered how many players right up till now are now longer with us......to my surprise...23 are gone.
