GO LISTEN TO CAM RAYNERS interview last week on AFL.com.au , then come back and apologize and maybe you should do your research aswell.
Furthermore, what do you expect the kid to say publicly? Believe it or not these kids already have managers who are coaching them on how to perform in the media & what to say.

I can live with the homesickness reason I guess, but I don't believe he should be able to choose which club he wants to go to after "5 minutes" in the game. Isn't that the reward for players who become free agents or even delisted free agents and who have spent many years at their clubs?

If we, for example, offered Brisbane the best deal, then so be it. He's still back home. It's really not fair to clubs who use very good draft picks for players who choose to leave after two years.

Cripps, I'm looking at you!
So if we offered a 2 year $400K contract and Collingwood offered a 4 year $1.6M contract he should be forced to take our offer?

The problem of the "go home" factor is a real issue for some states and it really only relates to the high draft pick who, after fulfilling his initial mandatory 2 year contract can then set the rules for the trade. The club that selected him then is disadvantaged considerably in trying to recover the first round pick value.

It may be good from a personal perspective but from an AFL comp perspective its not good so perhaps the contracts for first round draft picks should be different.

Let's say 2 years with club having the right to exercise a second 2 year contract that also allows the player to choose to go "home" but only to a nominated state.

The club then has some negotiating capacity to get the best return on their first round pick.

It could also include some conditions around payment parity of offers (player can't be more than 10% worse of by going to another club).

Obviously if the club and the player are happy they negotiate a new deal.

Go ahead pick holes in it!!!

maybe im just different but i reckon having your dream job playing footy earning big bucks on an adventure in a new state sounds like the ideal for an 18 year old me ... i mean we are talking at max a 4hr flight away from home where ever you get sent in a generation where you can skype every day if you like very easily ..
i dunno i must be differant but i would treat it as an adventure and want to make the most of it while you can - i mean hanging with your footy mates all day playing video games and chasing girls when your not training .. sign me up baby especially if your coming from the cold winters of Melbourne to the warm beaches of Brisbane
Good in theory, and most kids do love it. Just like the rest of society though some of these kids struggle for a multitude of reasons.
Just like the Balic situation, there's more to the Schache story than those outside of the footy industry know.
I hope he gets back to Melbourne and is happy within himself and enjoys playing footy again.

If that’s the case the AFL pa need to grow some balls & suspend any player that does that from the draft.
Also any player that requests a trade should not have the right to choose which club he goes to if it disadvantages his previous club from getting the best available deal for their club.
If a player says he wants to go home there are multiple choices for his club to deal with.

That's already the case, but it's hard to prove draft tampering.

What are you going to say? The kid looked like he had a screw loose and the mum and dad told me to jog on.

Players don't get to choose their club of choice unless they are a free agent, no player has to accept a trade and no club has to make one. You may loose a player to the draft like we did with ball but hey they're the rules.

I don't know Schache from a bar of soap but he lost his father at a young age. Those calling him a mummy's boy may be right but it's totally uncalled for.

The kid has obviously had a tough time without a dad growing up. He was ultra impressive last year and in U18s, but he started missing his support network at home and needs to come back to Victoria.

Everyone's situation is different but let not hang a 20 year old kid out to dry.

The Lions came to him and offered him a chance to go home, they both agreed to try.

Now comes the issue of nominating a club. It is most likely the new club will demand that Josh, or any recruit, nominate them. Just like we did with Carlisle, Freeman, Steele, etc.

I don't think it's fair to blame Schache is and when he nominates a club to deal with as it's doubtful he is pulling the strings other than taking the best offer available to him from a mental, monetary and opportunity point of view.

I reiterate....IF he ( any player, not specifically Schache) chooses to come home and IF he is still in contract then yes, he needs to do the best deal for the club he is walking out on. And if he is citing "homesickness" as a reason then it shouldn't be about the money.

I find it unfathomable that in a so-called professional sport contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.

Gary Ablett for instance, not only signed a new contract, but forced the GCS to make it longer than he was originally offered. Now, after getting the benefit of a heavily front loaded contract, ( I get that's a risk clubs take) he's leaving. I'd be ropeable.

I don't get this line "players can't nominate." If These lads were lawyers, ,engineers, doctors or specialists who were offered a big new contract interstate 2 years into their careers would we or their former employers have any right to stand in their way????

Hey I can't talk because I can't stop myself argueing but when you come on and read through 10 pages and most of the posts are two people saying the same thing over and over it's ******* annoying. I wish I would do a Trav, he said what he wNted and shut up. That takes restraint I don't have.
That's quite funny because from where I'm standing we've had about 1500 pages of the same shit repeated over and over and over.

And that's just this year... how many years do you want me to go back?
