Taking on board what Ghost said got me thinking.
Pick swap is one idea floating around the other is Hickey lets just say it is WBD for the pick swap as they may have someone in the draft they want!

How does this sound

Talk with WBD about Hickey & 7 for their pick 9 & 11. Why, they will eventually get Dodo's pick 11 from the Dopers for Stringer

Maybe doggies see that pick 7 is all they need to pick up in the draft plus get a good potential ruckman in Hickey and lose 9 & 11.

We go to draft with 8,9,11 (Use 11 on wildcard Bonar if available...less risk if he does not make it as we still have 2 good less risky players at 8 & 9)

Just thinking.

I reiterate....IF he chooses to come home and IF he is still in contract then yes, he needs to do the best deal for the club he is walking out on. And if he is citing "homesickness" as a reason then it shouldn't be about the money.

I find it unfathomable that in a so-called professional sport contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.

Gary Ablett for instance, not only signed a new contract, but forced the GCS to make it longer than he was originally offered. Now, after getting the benefit of a heavily front loaded contract, ( I get that's a risk clubs take) he's leaving. I'd be ropeable.
It's going to be more like soccer soon enough, players will hold all of the power.

More and more will be moved on with one year to go as the club won't want to lose them for free/peanuts.

Not sure if players can cite restraint of trade if a club forces a particular move at the end of a contract. All it will take is one for player to be successful with a legal battle that is out of the AFL's control and the game is changed. Probably why the AFL **** themselves if a players states they won't leave their home state.

I hate other teams!
Michael Burrito is coming out of retirement & we're giving pick 8 to Go North! as a good gesture as long as they throw in Sam Gibson too

Just need Louis Slungpue to sign off on it first. I reckon he'll be keen as ****

I don't get this line "players can't nominate." If These lads were lawyers, ,engineers, doctors or specialists who were offered a big new contract interstate 2 years into their careers would we or their former employers have any right to stand in their way????

Lawyers etc don't nominate for a draft.

In economic speak the AFL is not a free market its more like a trade agreement.
