Good luck with that
More likely:
2018 - rebuilding, get top 5 pick plus Thomas, Scott, Crocker and potentially Blakey
2019 - the likes of Clarke, Durdin, Simpkin, Ahern, Dumont, Williams etc now established as AFL players, move up ladder but probably just miss finals. Kelly comes home in off-season.
2020 - back in premiership contention with Tarrant (31), Higgins (31), Kelly (24), McDonald (25), Cunnington (28), Brown (26) and Ziebell (29) as our mature core, plus improvement from our younger players.

Aaron Hall, 26, would be quite an upgrade imo on Aaron Mullett, 25, as an offensively minded defender.

If there was an intelligent way to trade up to Hall without selling the farm then I'm all for it. I don't think you could argue that the profile of the list would be impacted, so why not try and get better? Surely we expect to be a pretty good side long before Hall will finish up.

If that's the offer they don't really want to keep him.

I don't think they care either way mate.

Their list is set for 3-4 years time when Rocky is nearly done, so comp pick 19 would be a nice handy addition.

They would take 1, 12, 18 & 19 to the draft.

LDU/Dow at 1, Ballenden at 12, Garner/Worpel/Mayes at 18/19. Very nice.

They could still add a Schache pick yet and dominate this draft.

Always need to consider where the game is going. Obviously run, carry, spread will remain a huge part but watching the Crows Vs GWS they nailed some laser like passes into the corridor to open play up from defense. Kicks that dont only hit their target they get there is a damn hurry leaving little chance for the guy behind.
We need to save our bullets for the right types. Sure Kelly is a no brainer and another skilled mid but i wouldnt mind this bloke from GWS

The timeframe and strategy you outline sounds exactly what ours needs to be now that we have no big fish recruit coming in this year.

We should be the team doing what we need to do to dominate this draft (and next draft if need be). FA's and high level drafting is where we need to be.

5 picks inside 30 for consecutive years is what is required - Brisbane and Gold Coast will get this - we need to be aggressive and get this as well.

Pick 1 would have helped but hey Brisbane are the wooden spooners so they have to wear that crown....

Pock 4 and 21 not enough now there is no JK/DM - we need to change tack and get another 3 picks inside 30 and be planning for 3-4 years time.

You have left something out.

We still have the bankroll in our pocket so we are not limited to this season to top up.

Brad has basically stated this is what we will do. There's no hurry.

4 & 21 this year, a couple of top liner RFA/UFA types and the father sons next season. Then trade for JK the following season if he wants to come just to top us off. If we're not playing finals in 2020, then something as gone drastically wrong.

Totally agree. Going to the draft in rebuild mode with the 2 picks we have won't even get us out of 1st gear. Problem with rebuilding 1 pick at a time is you need 10 years to build a side, then you start again. Just ask Melbourne and Carlton, both of whom have had multiple high first rounders but rarely multiple top tens in the same draft.

Yes but one (the war chest) doesn't preclude the other (getting aggressive in the draft) - in fact they complement each other.

We front load BBB and other established players this year and next, get 10 picks inside 30 over the 2 years (including F/S) and then go bang with the freed up cap space in 2019/20.

It can work perfectly but we need to change tack now that JK is not coming - go hard in the next 2 drafts and build up the youth.

A couple of FA's of course if we can them but aggressive in the draft over the next 2 years is now the key.

Okay. Let me have a crack at this silly stuff.

Richmond swap: picks 15 & 16 to StKilda for pick 8 & 43.
Richmond trade: Pick 8 and 2017 2nd round pick to Brisbane for Schache.

StKilda swap: pick 8 & 43 to Richmond for picks 15 & 16
StKilda swap: Pick 7 & 15 for Norths pick 4 & 44

North swap: pick 4 & 44 to StKildas picks 7 & 15
North trade: Goldstein & 21 to the Bulldogs for pick 9

Brisbane : Pick 8 and 2017 2nd round pick from Richmond for Schache.
Bulldogs: Goldstein & pick 21 for pick 9

Richmond: lose 15/16 & next years 2nd round pick, gain a top 2 rated KPF & pick 43
StKilda: lose 7/8/43, gain 4 & 16
North: lose Goldstein, 4 & 44, gain 7,9 & 15
Brisbane: lose Schache, gain pick 8 & 2017 2nd round pick
Bulldogs: lose pick 9, gain Goldstein & pick 21

North take 7, 9 & 15 to the draft. Upgrade Zurhaar with pick 62. Pick up a ready to go back up ruckman (Martin/Currie).

Thank you linesmen, thank you ball boys.

How are we going to get 10 picks inside the top 30 over the next 2 years?
Compensation pick for Atley?

But seriously, in light of the "pick up a few RFA/UFAs next year strategy" mentioned by a few, the FA quality and demographics seem a bit limited next year. Tom Lynch, Robbie Gray, Andrew Gaff and Luke Dalhaus the pick of the bunch. Lynch seems like a longer shot than Kelly and Martin. Doubt Gray would leave.

The list of OOC players is more interesting, but that also includes a fair few of our blokes!

This is O.T.T. and impossible to create without going backwards at the same time.

Check out what I just posted.

The 20% loading on the F/S's means we can have 4 picks inside the top 50 and still get them.
