How many additional points do we get for upgrading 6 picks, and also downgrading a third to a fourth like was suggested? Barely enough to justify helping a hated rival. And like Snake mentioned, we can dip into 2019's haul to make up the rest. In fact, given the supposed strength of next year's draft, I hope we end bottom 2 so we can get an elite draftee in before then paying for father-sons and academy players.
By upgrading/bringing in 2018 picks we increase our currency in the 2018 trade period which maybe more valuable than purely assessing on a points basis especially if the pool turns out to be as strong as mooted.

Also by trading in 2018 selections we are in fact weakening our 2017 on-field position thus are more likely to finish lower which is what you are hoping for.

Rockliff free agency paperwork to be lodged in coming days
Player manager Tom Petroro, from Stride Sports management, provided an update on a number of his clients on SEN Radio on Friday.

Tom Rockliff, who has nominated Port Adelaide as his preferred club

"Over the coming days we'll lodge paperwork with Port," Petroro said.

"Tom, at age, 27, saw Port in a really opportunistic position in regard to finals and Tom wanted to chase some success."

Todd Goldstein, North ruckman is staying put according to his manager

"I don't know why he's being mentioned. That's not on our radar and it's certainly not on North's either," Petroro said.

Mitch Duncan, there is no way he will be leaving Geelong and will not be part of any deal to get Gary Ablett to the Cats

"He's going nowhere," Petroro said.

There is something weird happening in that club. They lose a Grand Final because they played like absolute crap (probably at least partly due to conflict in the playing group) and knee-jerk to the extreme: "well, everyone says the Richmond model of small pressure forwards wins flags, are there any of those available?". "Yeah, Motlop - played OK in the last final after being lazy crap all year." "OK, let's throw the kitchen sink at him".

Why not pay Cameron his market worth? Motlop is the poor man's Cameron.

And just LOL if they think players like Castagna are crucial to winning flags.
