There can be only one...
Andrew Swallow is contracted at North Melbourne, but Young said he wants to play with his brother at some stage in his career.

“I haven’t had any discussions with North Melbourne yet, but Andrew and David always wanted to play together,” Young said.

“At the moment Andrew looks like he’ll be playing for North Melbourne next year unless something else pops up.”
That is a pretty small window. If he seriously wants to then he should ask to be traded.

Emerging talent in the Tigers’ VFL team includes small forwards Shai Bolton and Tyson Stengle, runners Oleg Markov, Jayden Short, Corey Ellis and Connor Menadue and talls Ryan Garthwaite, Callum Moore, Ivan Soldo and Mabior Chol.
"Emerging talent", LOL.

They have broken out the Kool Aid.

The Tigers have picks 15, 17, 50, 53 and 72 and could select one or even two key forwards with their two first-round selections.

“We will work through that as we get closer to the draft, but we think there are some reasonable talls in the draft - and potentially both those picks could be key position players,” Richardson said.

Asked if exciting father-son prospect Patrick Naish was a lock to be taken by the Tigers, Richardson said: “He’s not a lock, no. There is obviously the romance of the father-son, but we’ve got to make the right decisions from a list perspective as well.”
I suspect the Tiges are trying to play down Naish's value in the hopes nobody bids on him until after their 1Rs.

Translation:
Andrew will be at GC next year if they want him.

A contract is a contract.

Rookie status is a list placement.

He can be upgraded.
Should not be elevated until next year allowing us another points pick for 2018.
Remembering you can only take in as many picks as you have open spots on your list.

Keep the list spot empty allowing us to trade down our 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2018 for 4th round picks and a points gain. Use the 4th round picks for F/S and academy bids, upgrade CamZ with our final pick in 2018 costing us 0 points :)

Much smarter list management !!!

If Wright & BJ's operations don't come good, we trade Spitta, and delist Fish & Wagner, then we will be using pick 94.

Hansen, Wright, BJ, Gibbo, Wagner, Mullet + Fordham & Taylor

Let's throw out LT as well, he has no future.

4, 21, 44, 62, 76, 94 & 112 & 2 x rookies

If some of you folks reckon our list is weak now, just wait until 2018.
If it came that, I doubt Mullett and Wagner get delisted. Unless Fishy finds a suitor, we'd probably keep him. I'd be content to give Wags 1 more year. I'm not against keeping Swallow as back up. If players develop as hoped, he'll play VFL . If not he'll play AFL. Will he want to take that chance. Will we want to force him to?

I think you can add Waite to the outgoings as well, but there'll likely be another Williams style reclamation project to fill a list spot.

He only has a 12 month contract.

Do you prefer we use pick 94 at the draft?

Given Watson will be on the LTI, Zurhaar would be upgraded at some point next year anyway.

No i prefer an additional empty list space for 2018. Same reason im all for 1 year contracts for Mullett, Wright, Jacobs and Thompson.

We will need as many vacancies as possible in 2018 to properly exploit our position.

Very easy to explain to CamZ why his promotion will come next year and still play him as our nominated rookie for 2018.

More from Colin Young...

  • Confident Brandon Matera and Nathan Wilson will get home to Western Australia.
  • Shared Wellingham has been advised he has to tread water through the trade period. Clubs are a bit greedy this time of the year and that's just the nature of the beat.
  • Andrew Swallow likely to play for North Melbourne next year, although the appeal of linking up with brother David at Gold Coast has been discussed by them.
  • Rhys Palmer not opposed to returning to Western Australia to play if the opportunity arises.

We in my opinion don't want Andy and are trying to get him to GC
