I thought the F/S rule is like the academy rules and you just get a points discount and then you have to match the points with the picks you have. I wasn't aware it had to be your next pick otherwise teams would lose their points discount if they had to match with a pick soon after the bid. I.e. Matching a bid at pick 16 with pick 17 would result in a points loss to the club.

The issue is that you can't use inactive picks anymore to match points. So to match a bid in the first round might take 3 3rd round picks, which leaves you with two picks moved to the end of the draft. However, I am not sure if you can get away with using rookie upgrades with those picks instead of taking the last players available in the draft. If we could do that we could easily upgrade Castagna and Soldo and use the points for Naish.

Alternatively, we should just trade our first picks for young players and then we can't lose them in the first place. Just make sure we have a second round pick in the mid to late 20s to match the bid.
I guarantee you the club will be all over it to make sure we don't waste picks unless they have a kid they think there they don't want to lose.

Does anyone know if Naish is bid on after the Richmond pick and before the Geelong pick, whether or not we have to use it. Seems a bit unfair that you trade for a pick a year in advance and then it gets used needlessly on a F/S.
Richmonds pick will be after the Geelong pick. Doubt Naish will go first round anyway.

I think we have good kicking skills. Its our game style thats resulting in poor de% imo.

We could simply trade out of the first round for a proven player too.

Are naish's kicking skills actually good too? Remember reading he turned it over a fair bit in one game
Not sure but he point is we shouldn't just select a tall for talls sake they still have to be rated by us and better than Naish if we are going to pass on him.

Category A rookies can play without the need for an injury upgrade next year. So basically there is no reason to upgrade them unless they are getting senior list offers (and more $$$) at other clubs. Castagna will be the only one that fits this bill. Soldo and Stengle won't get senior listed. Unless of course there's a cap on how long you can remain a rookie which I admit I am ignorant to. It'll be Soldo's fourth year on the list so if that exists it would probably apply with him.

3 years max on a rookie list, but not sure how this will work next year. Cat b's will have to be upgraded next like normal.

George and Soldo need to be upgraded due to both being 3 years on the rookie list.
