4–WAY TRADE (based on current ladder position)
Carlton trade Gibbs to Adelaide for pick #18
Carlton trade pick #18 & 2018 2nd round pick to NMFC for Ben McKay & 2018 1st round pick
NMFC trade pick #4 & #18 to GWS for Josh Kelly

VERDICT:
Carlton: Gain Ben McKay & NMFC 2018 1st round pick. Lose Gibbs & 2018 2nd round pick.
NMFC: Gain Josh Kelly & Carltons 2018 2nd round pick. Lose #4, 2018 1st round pick & Ben McKay.
GWS: Gain #4 & #18. Lose Josh Kelly.
Adelaide: Gain Gibbs. Lose pick #18.

Thoughts?

GWS would want a lot more for Kelly. If he nominates North, it will be two firsts, one being a 2018 selection. Pick 18 is relatively worthless for GWS this season.

For a list like GWS, yes it is. A top 10 pick isn't, but one near the 2nd round is. Kelly is worth two top 10 picks, and North would get a early 3rd back. That is if he wants a trade. Big IF. Can see him staying and he'll still get $1 million plus a season in 2-3 years after the GWS era.

Carlton need a little sweetener otherwise why help facilitate the Kelly to North trade?
I do not see how Carlton are helping facilitate the trade there.

This trade: North 2017 & 2018 first round picks for Kelly, works out better for both North & GWS than your suggestion. No reason to want Carlton involved.

Also why are Carlton trading one of their young KPF/rucks where don't take this the wrong way- you don't have a lot of depth in. McKay will be important in 2018 and beyond.

First round picks aren't worthless to any club. Particularly to one who doesn't have one at this stage.

Think you may have misread...

I think GWS will re-sign Kelly, $800k pa for 2 years. That squeezes out Hopper, plus maybe another.

Gibbs to Adelaide for their first rounder. On trade to GWS for Hopper

GWS: Gain #4 & #18. Lose Josh Kelly.
Adelaide: Gain Gibbs. Lose pick #18.

Gees, you'd never guess this trade was proposed by a Carlton fan.

North get ripped and Carlton make out like bandits.

North are giving up to much. Change North's 2018 first rounder to a 2018 second rounder in the trade with Carlton and that seems fair value.

As already mentioned, North can just trade this and next years first round picks directly with GWS and get to keep McKay.

Of course it's stacked in Carlton's favour. I am a Blues supporter after all.

Carlton withdrew their 5 year $700k offer after Brisbane stupidly won in the last round of the season handing the blues another centre half back in Weitering. They then offered Carlisle a 3 year deal @500k. St Kilda matched the original offer and the rest is history.

Stupidly won?

I've covered quite a bit in their specific player threads. Melbourne have serious interest in Zak Jones, Daniel McStay is another player that they're chasing. There are preliminary interests in a couple of fringe players from other clubs that aren't really worth mentioning yet, as they'll make decisions on them once they find out whether they can get their main objectives.

Have heard the Dees are interested in McStay, but he is McStaying.

Just passing on what I know and can actually talk about.

Good effort I think

But Blues losing Gibbs + 2nd round pick for Ben McKay and 2018 1st round pick is a little short. North will need to add a better player more proven if they want Kelly. If we are going to assist another club getting Kelly we need to make them hurt. Simple as that - we are not a charity club. There is no player on North's list that I would want in fact. Taylor Garner is one I would look closely into. But other than that no chance will this go through

So in a deal where north pay overs and carlton do really well. You want them to hurt more and carlton to get an even better deal.

Even though they dont need your help with kelly as far as trading and they dont need to give up a player anyway.

Makes sense i suppose...

Nah it really doesnt

I think all clubs except GWS are doing okay from that trade. NMFC gets their guy and trades B.McKay (who really hasn't shown much, even at VFL level) for a very early 2nd round pick in 2018. Which they purchased him for anyway (#21).
Adelaide wins by only paying one 1st rd pick.
Calton gets a better pick for Gibbs by trading that pick for NMFC 2018 1st (#8-10).
GWS nets one early and one late 1st rd pick (4 & 18).

McKay and Larkey are the only true developing KPF we have on our list.

Waite is done this year and then we only have Ben Brown as a proper KPF.

The kid is still 19.

We are not going to swap him for the same pick 2 years later, as we have bugger all like him to fill the breach..

Why would GWS want 4 & 18 when they could get 4 and 2018 1st rounder which allows them to spread their age profile? ben has shown more than harry at VFL level if you saw him last year =]

Over the past 2 years I would say Ben has shown slightly more than Harry at VFL level. I think I've seen each of them between 8 and 12 times

There's no worries about North & Ben.

North really rate the kid.

Senior Development Coach, Gavin Brown

“It was a really pleasing first year for Benny.

“We knew he was going to take a little bit of time, and the taller guys do take a bit longer to grow into their body.

“He’s come in here, been really diligent and professional and he’s put on a lot of muscle to get to the 97, 98 kilo mark.

“He hurt his shoulder in a tackling drill and he was unable to do much physical contact in pre-season training, so he was really behind the 8-ball in terms of when he first got here.

“When the games came around, he found himself in the development league, playing a handful of games there.

“Then he was able to break into the VFL senior side and he progressed really nicely throughout the whole year.

“He got better and better as the year went on, and he had a breakout game against Essendon where he kicked three goals and took seven or eight marks in a quarter and a half.

“From then on in, he looked like a really key power forward for us down at Werribee. By the time the end of the year came, he was a really damaging key forward for us.

“He’s a very coachable young player. He’s the first one up on Monday morning to check his vision from the weekend’s game; he’ll ask questions, sit in on other reviews and he had a real thirst for it.”

And:

199-centimetre big man Ben McKay is turning heads at Arden Street.

The key-forward booted three goals and took several strong marks in an impressive performance during the Roos' practice match against Werribee last Saturday.

“It will definitely bring confidence for the next game,” McKay told NMFC.com.au.

“I’ve just got to keep building up, working on it and taking it into next week.”

McKay is keen to make the most of his opportunities in the coming weeks.

“It’s unfortunate we’ve got a few injuries at the moment, but you’ve got to keep worrying about your game and be confident,” he said.

“Hopefully, fingers crossed, I’ll keep performing over the next couple of weeks and get an opportunity.”

The defensive side of McKay’s game is arguably just as important as the big marks and goals.

“Even though you are 200 centimetres, you’ve still got to be able to chase and pressure,” he said.

“Scotty’s (Brad Scott) pretty serious about that and he really harps on that.”

Now in his second year at North, McKay is loving life as an AFL footballer.

“Spending time in the gym, getting the fitness levels up, it’s been unbelievable,” he added.

“It’s so much better being a second-year player. You’ve got so much more of an understanding of game plan and the people around the club.”

Impressive - Harry hasn't played many more than a dozen games at VFL level.
It helps that I can get game tapes from several clubs haha.
