That's the joke. We're such hopeless traders that we would do that deal.

I'd trade Wigg for your fourth, as it gives us a few more points to possibly match an Edwards bid. Happy for him to look for more opportunities elsewhere, as he won't be getting them here. I'm speculating, but I think his card was stamped with his terrible disposal in the JLT and his lack of defensive pressure in spite of his accumulating ability, though I haven't watched too much Crows reserves lately.

But I suspect you'll probably be able to get him as a DFA since he's out of contract and we don't rate him highly enough to give him a single game in three years. It's the way things are going now. We delisted Wright and Henderson for example in the last few years who actually played a reasonable number of games for us in their final years.
ah, sorry. that went right over my head :P

We love a lack of defensive pressure, so he'd slot right in.

...and performing in finals (even if he hasn't played in many yet)

Not really
Darling 16 goals from 9 games, 1.78 goals a game
McGovern 2 finals for 2 goals, 1 goal a game

I think some in here might get something out of this. The Geelong dream trades are my favourite but there is plenty of gold both ways.

    Dream trades
Steven Motlop and George Horlin-Smith to Gold Coast for Tom Lynch.
    - Steve Tonks, Ballarat Vic

Get Gary Ablett and Peter Wright for Motlop and a second-round draft pick
    - Dylan Cockfield, Yackandandah Vic
It is a shame that Geelong only have 1 Motlop.

G.Ablett
J.Grant
M.Hallahan
T.Mckenzie
A.Sexton
S.Lemmens
M.Rosa
B.Matera
T.Nicholls
A.Hall
R.Thompson
M.Shaw
J.Lonergan

13 players that I would happily consider letting go for the right price or just a straight delist.

Obviously we won't turn over 13 players in one year, but I am just about over these guys and just the disappointment after disappointment.

Usually I am pretty measured about my comments about the Suns, but after today I am just overly tilted.

So have at it, Lads and Ladies, who wants them?

how serious are you about letting GAJ and Matera go?

Id take GAJ but at the Mitchell/ Lewis type cost in picks. Given the noise from GCS with Evans and ******** jus wanting to fight - I doubt it gets accepted.
So you keep him and pay him to not play again as he'll want to get paid.

And Matera would prob get an early 3rd late 2nd perhaps - but I imagine he wants to go West...

A current Top 5 player in the league isn't going for pick 88 regardless of how old he is

If GAJ does decide to retire he doesn't get paid a cent

There is some dumb shit posted in here, but this trumps all of that, and by some margin. Dear god !!!

Mitchell was maybe not top 5... and I doubt on 2017 output GAK is either.

And aint walking away from $$$ that he has a contract for -at Geleong he will get paid - just not as much but it helps his personal situation out more. And while he wont get as much as the AFL marketing cheque he gets, and Ablett in Geelong will get paid well outside the game.

So GCS cant keep him wanting the world for him - but its dead money as he wont be putting out much to get it.

They can take something and free up the SC space - or go for the bigger trade value and eat shit all next year as he sits out " injured " some more.

He signed a contract and took the money on offer, the Suns hold the whip hand in this scenario, and so they should.

FWIW I think he'll get to the cats next year but they're going to have to pay up to get him. There's not a snowflakes chance in hell that a pick 88 scenario is repeated as the goodwill does not exist with the Suns and GAJ

The way I see it, the Cats already have very little trade collateral as it is. They could struggle, especially if they want to consider any other player that is interested in moving.

Curious, Why do you feel the need to type that crap go catters after every post?

Wowee, some good stuff alright

Josh Kelly to Hawthorn in exchange for Paul Puopolo, Luke Breust and a third-round pick.
- Timothy McKay, Coragulac Vic

Jacob Hopper to Richmond in exchange for Dustin Martin.
- Stu Goldfinch, Botany NSW

Harley Balic and Freo's second pick to Melbourne for Jesse Hogan.
- Lester Delaney, Scarborough WA

Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Dean Gore, Harrison Wigg and Kyle Cheney (probably unlucky) would be delisted, while Scott Thompson has already retired. The priority would be to re-sign Jake Lever and Mitch McGovern first and foremost, and for Charlie Cameron to stay. A trade for a midfielder or two is vital, so trading in Bryce Gibbs for a first and second-round pick, plus getting Tom Rockliff as a free agent is ideal. Trading in a young, cheap piece like Lukas Webb could also work in our favour. Finally, drafting a project key position player and a midfielder with the picks we have would go a long way to replenishing our depth.
- Eamonn Shorter, Launceston Tas

Just a shame about the whole 'salary cap' thing.

If he decides to delay retiring until december the suns have to be one short on the list all 2018 and cant trade in anyone to replace the money he was on as its too late.

Which is why they are better off trading him for a late pick early in the trade period so its early enough that they can trade a good player in with the money freed up.

Geelong wont trade anything except a very late pick for a 33yo so if gc wont take it they will have to try and convince him to go to another club or wait and see if he retires.

Geelong have plenty of trade capital but we would much rather trade those picks for smith/hopper than ablett. We have little interest in ablett unless he is cheap.

The Cats have a lot more to lose in this scenario than the Gold Coast if it plays out this way

Gold Coast can go in one list spot short and frontload contracts to their top players and use the cap space later down the track. They aren't heavily invested in playing finals next year anyway if GAJ isn't there.

Geelong on the other hand are desperate to get GAJ back and see him as icing on the cake to their premiership aspirations. Without him they are still too heavily reliant on Dangerwood

Geelong don't have any leverage but Geelong can walk away. I don't see how it is in GC interest if Ablett stays at the suns next year, collects his cash, and sits out games like the last month or so. Poisonous culture and the new coach won't stand for it.

The Sydney Swans portion of that article is amusing. All want Tippett GONE !!! Thing is folks, he is contracted, so you have to find another club that is interested and willing to trade for him. Best of luck with that !!

No they don't, don't believe media articles.

Geelong want to keep their window open longer by trading in mid age players-if they ask a lot for a 33yo we will tell them to deal with another club.

Really ??? No first round pick, again. So at the moment you will have picks 19 and 33 in a shallow draft. Please tell us how you are going to land Smith or Hopper.

Well we got Danger for 13 and Dean Gore and he's the best player in the league, so I'm sure they'll figure something out.

Also believe that Geelong will lose Motlop and Menzel during free agency, so depending on how active Geelong are during free agency and the deals that Motlop and Menzel can get elsewhere, we could also get a pick or two as compensation.

Pick 19 will get one and our 2018 1st would be enough to get the other. Lot of water to go under the bridge first though.

My point wasnt even that it was just that we wont trade pick 19 for ablett which we wont, anyone who thinks that is being illogical.
