Pick 2 & 9 for Kelly & 27 (originally saints 2nd round pick used to trade for Jack Steele)?
Really like this trade. Having said that, I'd like to see the saints do what they can to hold onto their 1st round pick this year (currently pick 9).

I'd propose pick 2 + 2018 1st round pick + 3rd round pick for Kelly + pick 27

You gotta be mad to consider trading a 2018 first round pick.

I'm thinking from the perspective that the saints need to continue adding top line midfield talent and if they have a top 10 pick, that will help us in this regard. If we could trade in Kelly and pick up someone like O'Brien in the draft, that would be an ideal outcome. If the saints do indeed improve coinciding with the arrival of Kelly and continued improvement from our existing group, our 2018 pick could be pushed well into the teens, therefore perhaps diminishing our chances of picking up a top line midfielder in the draft.

Having said that, I have not been following the underage talent as closely this year. Does it look like some high quality mids will be falling to the teens in the draft? The statement that next year's draft will be better has become somewhat of a cliche now. Seems to be said every year.

Spot on, every year the next year always seems to be hyped up as a super draft. IIRC the same was being said last year re this years draft and now it is said to be seriously short of depth. Also happens quite often that under agers perform really well and then don't back it up as well in their draft year.

It's called the grass is greener syndrome.

I must be remembering something different. Last year was supposedly a super draft and this year an average one

I may be mistaken, I am fast approaching 60 but that is my perception of every year, your young brain might work better than mine. I did give myself an out clause with my "IIRC" eth-dog:);).

No, Twomey clearly tried talking up this years draft as a potential super draft in his early 2016 Road to the Draft Podcasts. But recruiters and guests on the early podcasts put the brakes on this talk.

Much more talk this year on next years draft class, and not just by Twomey. Mostly centred around the King twins, the 3 S.A. underagers, Tarryn Thomas the Tassie kid, Walsh from the Geelong Falcons, and Blakey for the Swans.

No, not really. If Sutherland lives up to the hype and decides for footy, then yeah, it improves this years crop.
only due to last year being pretty poor
Marshall & Battle were pretty much the only decent tall forward options.
This year has a few decent KP prospects.
