2017 trade hypothetical thread

I said in a package, I'd quite happily give up our 2017 and 2018 1st round picks for Lever.

If it requires further sweetening then I'd throw in an Alex Neal-Bullen and ask for their 2nd round pick back.

'17 First round pick
'18 First round pick
Alex Neal-Bullen

Jake Lever
'17 Second round pick

I think it would be more than that.... the Crows just cant afford to be weak on this..

No interest at all in ANB. No way a 2nd round pick goes back with a sweetener like ANB. Your 2 x 1st ain't enough seeing your a better team now.

I'm not selling him short at all, Melbourne supporters wouldn't bat an eyelid at him otherwise.

He's a good player but we are better off using the pick in a Lever package or at the draft, Jones doesn't fill a need.

did you see the way jack watts ran around today? Not that they are the same position but hard players are very valuable and soft ones need to exit the team asap. jones also offers speed, which viney, brayshaw, jones, petracca, oliver dont have. some have power but not speed over greater distances.

id take jones with pick 12-ish in a heartbeat

Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca and Oliver do actually have speed.

And if you're suggesting Watts should exit the team then you've got no idea, he was shit yesterday like everyone else but he's still an excellent player.

So you don't want an emerging young midfielder that can tackle, win clearances, good disposal and has a bit of mongrel in him? Would you perhaps prefer something useless like a Dean Gore? You're getting a better deal than you did with Dangerfield.

Not sure why you would quote me into a "Your getting"... Im not getting anything. Danger was a similar but different deal. RFA for a start. Im not sure what would have happened if a deal could not have been done for PD. Would have have stayed for another two years? Would we have made him a FA offer like the Buddy deal that could not be matched?... but none of that is in the pipeline for Lever. They also are under a heap of local pressure to not trade him for any reason.
Imo , the 2 R1 picks would be attractive.. especially as the 2018 picks will be hard to obtain. So that deal has a solid start but Im not sure about pick going back and the player you have added. One never knows what other deals may spill over into yours.. If a player on good money is moved as well , maybe those picks can be used to get Gibbs. Whats Melbs cap space like?

The second he nominates a club you ain't getting what you want for him. He is out of contract so you will take unders just like every other player who moves.

I meant to write something else under your post that I quoted but there was quotes everywhere and I forgot.

Alex Neal-Bullen is an SA boy who forced his way into the team this season and has stayed there, he could really get even better with more midfield time.

If we are going after Lever I'd say we'd have significant cap space to sign him.

This nominating a club thing peeves me off. Nominate a state and if his preferred team want him enough they will need to offer a fair trade.

It's bullshit yeah, clubs should be able to trade to the highest bidder that way clubs wouldn't get shafted.

So ... my point is , one approach may be the crows may want to dump SC themselves ..in which case they may want you to take SC sponge so they have room for other players themselves.

Like Gore , ANB may appeal or he may not ... P40 in 2014 ; 30 games ; it doesn't yell premium player.. the point is its going to be a serious trade ... one that they can say they obviously got serious remuneration. It will have to be overs by a fair amount.

If they wanted to dump a player on us then that would weaken the return they get because dumping a significant salary is a significant perk for Adelaide.

Also on ANB, he broke into our midfield in which is regarded as one of the best in the league and he stayed there.

He could make an immediate impact for Adelaide and really help the likes of the Crouch brothers and Sloane.

No ... players must be allowed to choose their place of employment... Lever did not choose to go to Adelaide. If you want to introduce push trading then there will have to be some serious offset... FA agency after 5 years or a big financial bonus every time they are moved or something.
Plenty of players would say lets introduce a system that allows them all to chose which club they play for from Y1...

Its not what you think , its what they think . My point is it may not weaken the return. It may be what is required to get the deal done...who knows.. its what helps them.

That's stupid. If they wanna choose their club they can go play country footy somewhere

What the **** do you think would happen if players could choose where they play from year 1? Big clubs would have all the gun players and GWS and GC would die out.

If Carlton offer pick 1 this year for Motlop geelong should be able to take that deal instead of getting pick 29 from Melbourne cause Motlop nominated us. The players have more power than the clubs which is ridiculous

The whole concept of the draft is restrictive and artificial , the players are entitled by law to chose an employer and the place they want to apply their trade , they are not some cattle for the farmer to sell. We are not usa sport. If the players simply picked where they went at the start , there would be less go home factor.

What do I think would happen if player could choose their first club... the best players would mostly stay in the state of choice.Yes some clubs would find it easier to get gun kids , but clubs would have to compete for their signature. If Melb was the preferred destination for a player like Gaff then he would have signed for melb if they wanted him. Perhaps he still goes away from the club he supported. With the introduction of FA , the draft has less impact anyway. GWS and GC would die out.. what we are really saying is kids wouldn't want to go there and do not want to be there. And thats not true. Some would others would not.

Id not be too concerned about it as it will not come in... just as push trading will not come in without significant concession.

If players picked their teams from year 1, half the league would be dead in 20 years.

The big clubs would offer the best facilities, perks and future job opportunities, and would pick up all the best talent.

It would be like the premier league but if the smaller clubs aren't even competitive, they'd likely get the chop. Absolutely terrible idea.

As I said... this is the extreme way of look at it... if someone expects the players to ever agree to be just sold like property at the clubs whim..expect push back.

And?

The kid is a decent prospect but no better than what Webb has offered up at the Bulldogs. Would happily give up a 3rd for Balic. Would prefer we take Webb first, on exposed form fits us better, on paper they are quite evenly matched.
Webb is going to be a very good player, been held back in the 2nds to further develop his game.

I agree Moore is going along nicely but he's the only one we have. Getting Treloar means we have missed out on 2015 and 2016 to draft a young KPF. Hopefully we can use that pick this year to fix it along with a possible FA signing to help Moore out for the next couple of years while we groom a young bloke in the 2's.

Pick 20 was used on Will Hoskin-Elliott.
If the pies didn't match the Dogs bid Moore could have been a premiership player...lol

EOI, will take a half used lip balm for some. Players thrown into it would make it more devils adovcate

Andrew Gaff
Chris Masten
Tom Lamb
Eric Mac
Mark Lecras
Tom Barrass

I'd definitely give up a first for Gaff and Barrass. The rest, a half eaten packet of Twisties. Chicken too.

Everyone has forgotten Billings...

Wants out and if he goes St Kilda will get another first for him at the least..

Could end up with picks 5-6-7 in this Draft..
