Trade 3: (0.5% chance, massive curve ball)
Dees receive- Lachie Whitfield
Giants receive - Jack Watts, Pick 10

Thoughts?
I would agree with the description of that trade as a massive curveball.

I don't see that GWS are looking for a tall forward, we have enough and couldn't really fit Jack Watts in. (And personally, I'm not a fan.) More specifically, though, I cannot see that GWS would want to lose Lachie Whitfield, as we cannot replace from within what we would lose, and I'm far from convinced we would find it in this year's draft.

Trade 1a:
Dees receive - Jake Lever (from Crows)
Crows receive - Bryce Gibbs (from Blues), 2018 2nd rounder (From Dees)
Blues receive - Dom Tyson (From Dees), pick 45 (from Dees)

Trade 1b:
Dees receive - Jake Lever (from Crows) Pick 35 (from Crows)
Crows receive - Dom Tyson (from Dees), 2018 1st round pick (from Dees), pick 27 (from Dees)

Trade 2:
Dees receive - Andrew Gaff (from Eagles)
Eagles receive - Pick 10, 2017/2018 2nd round pick (from Dees)

Trade 3: (0.5% chance, massive curve ball)
Dees receive- Lachie Whitfield
Giants receive - Jack Watts, Pick 10

Thoughts?
I know Tyson isn't rumoured to be on the move but we are way too inside mid heavy. Tyson has good trade value and we would need to move a player like him to make a big splash in the trade period

I can't see the Eagles going for that trade. We would get a pick after our first next year worst case scenario.

Dees not giving up nearly enough in trade 1A.

Totally Hypothetical but:

Melbourne: Lever
Carlton get: 2018 1st(Dees)
Gold Coast get: Pick 35(Crows)
Adelaide get: Gibbs, Pick 34(Cats) & 45(Dees)
Geelong get: Ablett & Pick 74(Suns)

I'm interested in what adl do with lever, seeming more likely to leave.

Melb have a depth of inside mids could they pull a Griff + 1st for Boyed scenario?

Imagine if they get into petracca ear.

Thats stupid
If they were going to get Petracca they would have to over pay him because he's from Victoria. Why wouldn't they just pay Lever that money

I actually think for us at least your first trade isn't too far off. Would hope it'd be a higher pick than 45 (25-35) but I wouldn't be bitterly disappointed if for Gibbs we ended up adding 2 2nd-tier mids (Tyson and the pick 25-35) and then got an elite midfield talent for pick 3.

I think Adelaide would want more though, especially if there is high picks on the table from elsewhere.

You are mad if you would not do that deal. That is a steal. Go and watch Schache's u/18 champs highlights. He is gonna be a gun, and one of the best key fwd's in the comp. I have no doubt about that.
Schache had about 10cm on his opponents in U/18's hence why he was such a fierce prospect. Since joining the AFL, he hasn't been remotely frightening in the contest. He'll be a solid forward but he'll need a #1 forward like Hipwood to continue improving and take the #1 defender away from him.

He had equal sized opponents, but they both played for Vic Country too. In the TAC Cup when he was matched on Kieran Collins he didn't kick a goal if I recall rightly.

It wasn't his contested stuff I was really referring to. It was more his lead up work, his marking ability on the lead and his set shot accuracy. AFL defensive structures and the amount of running required might not let him stand out at the moment, but I am still of the opinion that with a couple more pre-seasons under his belt, he will be very, very good.

No way Gold Coast trade Ablett for pick 35.
Suns already have 5 picks before pick 35

I agree that people are really jumping the gun on him. His first season was really impressive for a young forward, and second year blues is a common practice for young forwards. I still think he'll be a really solid forward but I don't think he'll be top tier and as such, I don't think he's the solution for Collingwood.

You're not in a premiership window right now, so who would you target ?? Take your chances at the draft ?? You can't just expect to bring in established stars on every line. It's simply not possible from a salary cap point of view. And massively overpaying one or two players very rarely works out in building a premiership side. I really don't think Tom Lynch from GC is the answer for you guys. His cost would be immense.

Billy Stretch could become steak knives in the Lever trade??

I'd hope we follow the Adelaide model take stock of our current situation and build through the draft without going to the trade table to fill holes. That is until the foundation is strong again.

The core of your group was built through the draft (Sloane, Smith, Talia, Crouch x2, Walker, Lever and Laird) Collingwood need to get back to what we were once good at again which is drafting and developing our own. The more we look to the trade period as the panacea of our issues the more we regress. It's a never ending cycle.

Consider this in the past decade the Crows have taken their first round pick to the draft except to trade for Crouch, losing it for Tippett and the downgrade with Geelong. In the same time frame Collingwood have used their's just 4 times. Which do you think is the better model?

As an aside why bring Lynch into it? Adam didn't mention him.

It's not only good recuiting, but good development program. You got a great recuiter (Our old recuiter... Thanks AFL and Trigg!) so I would get a good team around him and go to the draft.

Therein lies the issue. Collingwood have dropped from league best to league worst through Buckley's tenure in that area and through the same period reduced our investment in eyes on the ground at recruiting level. Until the board wake up and re-invest in key areas we'll continue to drift, but overall even without that good team around Rendell (which you're spot on is lacking) best practice for Collingwood remains the draft.

Bringing it back to relevant discussion I think the best value for Collingwood trade wise is targeting guys in the U21 age bracket that are lacking exposure to reduce pressure on the salary cap, but also provide some on field value.

Names that spring to mind that I've considered are Redman, Balic, Fiorini and Goddard. Trades for that type of player though hinge almost completely on what we get for our outgoing players which will be Cox and Fasolo, IMO. Perhaps the guts of deals goes:

Cox - Bulldogs
Libba - GC
Fiorini - Collingwood

Fasolo + 54 for 28 from WC

It's too early for anything more than spitballing, but on the surface, to me at least, it provides value to all 4 clubs before the serious pick haggling comes into it (WB would definitely need something extra in that first deal).
