Not angsty at all. We did absolutely smash it, doesn’t make Lobbe on $500K * 2 a good idea.

We used pick 95 so effectively he was free (barring salary, which is no issue either).

Hypothetical: Kruezer goes down next year (with his injury history it's entirely possible). Who comes into the ruck?

An experienced back up ruckman gives us coverage for 2 years. It was a good trade.

Port Adelaide need to get Lobbe off their books to accomodate the salaries of Rockliff, Motlop and Watts.

We offer to take Lobbe and his salary in exchange for our pick 95 and for Port throwing in an earlier pick in return to us.

If Port don’t do the deal then they are stuck with Lobbe and his salary and can’t accomodate the three players they want to bring in.

We stand our ground/hold our nerve till they do the deal or we walk away.

Port can’t delist Lobbe without his salary being included in their cap, they will want him off the books so they can bring the other three players in.

It’s not that hard to grasp.
Wait! You really need to answer the question

Personally happy in the end that we didn't go for Stringer or Schache.

Don't need Stringer's baggage and Schache hasn't impressed. Plus i don't want our forward line to be too tall.

Was interesting to hear Dodoro talk about Stringer.

Said they did a lot of homework on him and his issues.

Said success came early for him (AA and flag) and some young guys can get carried away with it all.

Said the Dogs booting him was a huge reality check which he didn't see coming.

Reckons Stringer has learnt some hard lesssons and will be much better for the experience.

Time will tell.

AFL.com already trying to change the Carlton narrative. According to them we had the 4th worst trade period equal with Hawthorn and only ahead of St.Kilda, North and Collingwood. :drunk:

**** them.

The same article rates Adelaide's performance better. Adelaide, who had two of their best 22 walk away and then paid overs for Gibbs, just to get something back by way of an established star.

NFI. :D

Will Tiges even turn up to the G come round 1?

Hangover will be epic

FWIW - Pelchen rates only ESS and Carlton as an A.

Even Port only rated B+.

I can understand that since Watts and Motlop in particular are inconsistent and a bit unknown.

Freo did really well in their trades for Weller, Matera & Wilson, but they lost some talented youngsters too in Weller, Crozier & Balic.

Agree. As good as Kruezer was this year he rarely plays all 22 games. Phillips is also injury prone. Lobbes best footy is very good. If Kruezer is injured we need that big body around the ball.

Just please don’t play both at once

And our 2nds went to poo after we lost Phillips

You're assuming that would be allowed. It would be a first of it's kind in AFL trading. Reckon we asked the AFL about it? Maybe. Maybe not. Don't know that and we don't know what any potential answer was. So there's one massive stumbling block to your theory.

Secondly, do you know what our salary cap status is specifically? Based on media reports, it's actually a good chance we are still barely scraping the bottom of the allowed barrel. You can only bank a certain amount of cap space to spend later. Perhaps the Lobbe contract actually helps us in that regard. Maybe. Maybe not. Can't know for sure.

Thirdly, do you know what our list management strategy is? We clearly need another ruckman. Who else was available? Did they want to come to us? Where would it leave us if we walked away and left Port to sort out their mess and not pick up Lobbe?

Fourthly, you're talking as if the salary we pay Lobbe has somehow stopped us getting Rockliff or others. How can you be sure of that? A player actually needs to agree to play for us before we can sign them as a free agent. Do you know for certain Rockliff made his decision based off money? Assuming he did for a moment, is there another reason we didn't want to throw an extra $300k (difference between Lobbe's contract and a DFA contract roughly) at Rocky? What's the club's stance on player payments? How would that affect long term plans?

Fifthly, how do you know how much of Lobbe's salary we are taking on? Seems to be suggestions it's not all of it. Does that change the value of the trade?

Finally, SOS and co are not infallible. But neither are they idiots. They also know a whole lot more about what's happening and why than you or I do. Might pay to remember that.

And just for fun, we picked up a decent backup ruckman for a pick we weren't even likely to use. What's ya bloody problem ya sad sack?
You make a very good point.

I would suggest, since the news going around is PA are paying part of the Lobbe salary, is that SOS negotiated to pay the amount which would allow us the maximum bankable for next year. Thus allowing the maximum possible available for Free agents etc for next year.

That in itself is a win, without needing a draft pick which isn't going to be used.

But most of those comments are still in play..... (God forbid) an injury to Martin in the preseason and a tough draw could easily see pressure on the Tigers next year. A premiership hangover like the WB could see calls for Hardwick and a slow start could whip up the +90k supporter base (mostly bandwagoners) into microwaves and chicken shat after initial expectations. These comments relate to the supporters as much as the club so they are ever present.

The only thing that has changed are comments related to winning finals/ premierships/ the rebuild . God knows a lil pressure could lead to 9thmond again next year

Ratings are a bit of fun, but every club has different objectives.

For 9 days we were seemingly being compared to Essendon and Port with the whole "can't attract players" narrative, but from the outside seemed to be headed down completely opposite paths.

Both clubs would be thrilled they landed their targets, but neither come into the draft until around the mid 40's, whilst we obviously now have 3 in the top 30, as well as 2 in the top 10.

The type of player are also polar opposites. Smith/Saad/Stringer and Rockliff/Motlop/Watts are absolute boom or bust in terms of output and attitude.

Eventually that might be the kind of risks we need to take to complete what we've started, but it just feels to early for this group to take that risk.

Lang/Lobbe/Kennedy are more meat and potatoes, but from the outside have zero question on character and attitude and will fit in to what we are building. Lobbe in particular never has a bad word spoken about him, and was made Vice Captain for a reason.

Whilst not high profile, Kennedy was chased by Brisbane, Hawthorn, Essendon and Lang, Nth and Gold Coast, so we aren't the lepers people are making us out to be.

What can't be underestimated is the fact that no other players bar Gibbs were seeking a trade, with the majority of the young players keen to sign extensions.

Yesterday was another step towards out goal. Congratulations to the club for ignoring outside noise and continuing down this road.

Previous "rebuilds" have been rushed to the point where as an example when we were supposedly challenging from 2009-2011, we still had the likes of Bower, Ellard, Davies, Hadley, Warnock, Joseph, Setanta etc in our finals best 22.

Rather than a hail mary at a flag, the club is sticking to the sustained success road map.

Next year can't come soon enough.
