Thank God you’re not in charge of recruiting, take your myopic glasses off.

Pick 16 in 2014 got you Sam durdin - look thru history of pick 16s and quite often shocking,

I said it last year and will say it again for Gibbs you would need a top 5 pick at least, plus extras. Pick 16 isn’t anything to write home about, next year’s draft is far better. We have Gibbs under contract, we need midfield depth ... that is unless you are happy with 10-15 goal smashing every week as without Gibbs we would rely on just two a grade midfielders.
Ok. We'll see.

You can't select a Pick 16 in 2014 (or any other year for that matter) as a guide on what to expect with Pick 16 in 2017

In saying that, If we get 10 and 16 for Gibbs, we could use 10 in the draft and 16 as part of the Kennedy deal. Pick 16 to GWS for Kennedy and Pick 26. Keep our 2nd next year. GWS would be keen to do this similar to the trade for Devon Smith

In this scenario for Gibbs we would get Kennedy, Pick 10 and Pick 26

Exactly and i think Reid and the Crows have come to the understanding that having 5 first round picks in the next 2 years isn't very productive for them right now...they also have Gallucci, Milera, Poholke, Doedee & Keath to come into the side next year...none of them made the Grand Final team.

It would be a waste to have so many talented kids sitting in the SANFL. Best to trade a few picks for Gibbs for their premiership tilt next year.

Crows supporters on the other hand don't seem to get it. At all.
Everyone wants to have their cake and eat it - in dealings with Carlton they made out like bandits with Eddie and Jacobs and thought they would with Menzel as well. I think the notion that every trade is a zero sum game with a definite winner and a definite loser is naive when proper list management regime is in place. Carlton is back in the hands of Carlton people now with SOS just employing a logical and rational approach to the rebuild - forced on the Club by as many have said, absolute and total incompetence for over a decade.

I hope Gibbs stays - Add Kennedy to Cripps in the side - will be interesting to see how well Adelaide's mids go against a fully stacked Carlton midfield.

Will be funny watching them struggle against sides they dominated - no midfield win - no easy ball to their forwards - no flag. Good luck Eddie with no Cameron as an alternative crumber and Jacobs wont grow a brain all of a sudden next year either- I mean seriously tapping how many ball ups to a stacked Richmond midfield absent a ruck - how dumb was that?

yeah Gibbs isnt worth much to Adelaide..so funny.

I don’t want Gibbs to leave. But if he does go I hope those here who have been pushing him out the door are quiet next year when we struggle to scrape together five or six wins.

I don't think anyone is "pushing" him out Mondyboy. Just seems to be a lot of talk still about him going so it's a discussion point. I'm very 50/50 on it. If Crows offered 12 & a kid we would have to be very tempted. We could then go and get a Miles or a Gibson very cheap to fill a hole whilst the kids develop. It may cost a few wins in 2018 but that doesn't bother me at all. It's about the bigger picture and adding Higgins Gallucci & Gibson for Gibbs is good deal for us given our position.

He may well be but nothing will happen unless he says otherwise. Just seems to be a lot of talk he will ask the question again

Fair and balanced. Gibbs to the Crows means a guaranteed Premiership. He's a number one draft pick and at the peak of his powers. I'd suggest nothing less than pick 10 2017 and one of the Crouch brothers and two 2018 first round picks at a minimum.

We could then send our current 2017 pick 38 to GWS for Kennedy, Scully and Griffin and use pick 10 for Tom Lynch. Suns would probably have to throw in a sweetener though, probably Saad would even things up a bit.

Picks 47 & 61 may have also not netted much historically either, but we got Macreadie and Williamson last year.
If SOS thinks he can do something 'unusual' with #16, he should do it.

We'd get more than just one pick for Gibbs and we shouldn't worry so much as to what may go out, without knowing what will come in.

I think Gibbs is staying quiet and letting the clubs duke it out! Probably a good move from his part.

Unless Adelaides pick #10 nets us Kennedy, Scully along with SD (Salary Dump) Griffen, I'd sooner ask for the future 1st. Adelaide got from Melbourne.

I just don't think Adelaide will let go their #10 though and especially so if they're keen on getting Fogarty and keeping him at home.

Ok... deep breath... here we go...

Nothing is guaranteed. Far from it.

So 3 first round picks and a starting midfielder?

38 is probably not enough to get Kennedy alone. Griffen as a side salad isn't going to get Scully thrown into the deal with Kennedy for 38.

...and use pick 10 for Tom Lynch. Suns would probably have to throw in a sweetener though, probably Saad would even things up a bit.

Hang on... so Gibbs is worth 3 1st rounders and a starting midfielder but Tom Lynch isn't worth pick 10 unless there's a sweetener thrown in?

I want some of whatever it is that you're on.

there are no other teams worthy
“Journalists” who intently dislike Carlton eg Jon Ralph also stirring pot, he thinks Carlton would be happy with pick 10 and 16.

Pick 16 in 2016 for example got you Todd Marshall whose played about 5 games. Anything outside top 5 in picks is largely gamble. Pick 10 & 16 is nothing for genuine A grade midfielder

Pick 16 in 2014 got you Sam durdin - look thru history of pick 16s and quite often shocking,

Tend to agree mate.
I would think closely about pick 10 and 16 if that was an offer for Gibbs but ultimately pick 16 should be the 16th best youngster out there and that usually is a good player but not a very good one. Also that is probably only when pick 16 turns out ok in long run. Probably half the time it is a bust. Of course pick 10 gives a second go at it and more chance of finding a very good player but still at pick 10 you should not expect a gun.

When you trade a player of high skill in midfield that probably has 4 more years to go I still think the value has to be within the top ten picks. I do not care if it is two picks for the one player. That in itself should not talk a club down to not taking the higher pick you truly want. For a player of this ability you want a go at drafting an elite kid, not just a good one and picks after top 5 are far less chance.

We've given way too many players for way way unders in the previous administration. So many of our fans are used to that it is scary some would accept even just pick 16 for Gibbs.

The thinking needs upgrading if this is the group thinking out there.
Thankfully I trust SOS has a better feel for what the value should be.

I understand the appeal for most of our fans though.
Going to the draft with pick 3, 10, 16 and 40 is a lot more seductive than pick 3 and then wait to pick 40 for next go.

I am intrigued what SOS, Bolton and the brains trust are planning in this next week.
