I’m sick of hearing about a potential Gibbs trade. If we aren’t payed handsomely I would much rather keep him than have a couple of highly speculative picks. I think it’s coming time that we stop discarding quality players and start backing in SOS to grab some quality later on in the draft (unless it’s an offer too good to refuse), this is what winning teams do.

We sure as shit aren’t going to go anywhere close to break even by bringing the likes of Gibson or Suban.

I think Jack Steele would be a general benchmark for Kennedy's trade value. JS nominated StK before trade week, after finishing his initial 2-year draftee contact. Hmmmm, sounds familiar. So, how do they stack up?

Steele
Bid at pick #16, cost #24 to match
Played 17 games over first two seasons
At GWS avg 14.9 touches, 4.8 tackles, 2.3 clearances
Trade cost: Future 2nd (assumed at ~26-30, ended up #26)

Kennedy
Bid at pick #13, cost 34 & 40 to match
Played 19 games over first two seasons
At GWS avg 16.0 touches, 4.1 tackles, 2.2 clearances
Trade cost: Future 2nd? (assume ~21-25, will end up #36 :p)

Differences
Stats almost identical, including senior games
Kennedy spent less time playing NEAFL in year 2 (more highly regarded?)
Carlton's 2nd rounder likely to be lower than the Saints pick was expected to be, so maybe we could argue a 2nd is too high a price to pay
We could accept a dump of celery
Ahmet Bains is no SOS :)

Conclusion
At best will cost a 3rd, but could cost a 2nd (with minor steak knives coming back?). All bets are off if Griffen/Scully/others are included.

there are no other teams worthy
I think with Schache being contracted Brisbane would've set too high a price.

At a guess they'd want something like a top 10 pick, and that'd be why clubs are passing.

Pretty much.
A club would do it for around pick 16 to 20 but Lions are only serious if the pick was a top 10 pick is what I sense going on and why most clubs not playing this game.

You don't think Higgins/Clark/Bonar plus Gallucci (both potential 10 year mids) & Gibson as a fill in is a step forward for a 29 year mid in the early stages of a rebuild?

Club very slow getting things done. So much for barass saying we trade early
To be fair, based on previous years, if we make a trade anytime before the last 60 minutes of the trade period, we consider it 'early'.

GWS tough nut Matthew Kennedy has nominated Carlton as his club of choice but Callum Twomey said on NAB AFL Trade Radio it is being delayed because the Blues want to give up No.39, whereas the Giants want something closer to No.20.

They realise we don't have a pick closer to 20 though, right?

This is spot on.
MKenn, for mine, is worth a 2nd round pick.

Steele / WHE / Hampton
All cost their new teams 2nd rounders.

Now all of those teams would have been expected to finish top 10, therefore picks 28+....

Issue is a 2nd rounder from us would be 19-23 (hoping not, but trying to be realistic)

So you can see why we would try to get our high end 3rd rounder across the line in this trade

Didn't we trade a decent pick to the hawks to help them get Mitchell last year? Wasn't that supposed to be so they help us this year?
It helped them get O'Meara, and it was a relatively equitable trade. There's no payback, just good will going into the future, as opposed to the Hawks' view of St Kilda after they screwed them in their trade.

We would take that in a heart beat.
Though surely we'd be angling for Melbourne's future pick instead of #16? I understand something would have to be sent with Gibbs, but it'd be worth the difference.

Really dislike this discussion on what a draft pick is worth based on who another club took with that pick 'x' amount of years ago...

Would rather review what we have done with the picks we had...

Impressed with our talent identification in the last few years... if we had pick 16 in 2015, I still think we take Cuningham over Himmelberg/Doedee/Gresham etc as he was the player WE identified.

I trust if Gibbs is traded for a certain pick this year (eg 16) then CFC knows who we want at that pick and are comfortable that letting Gibbs go, as that will nett us the player(s) we believe in.
Pretty sure we would have used #16 on Gresham or Burton instead.

Why the intent on trading Gibbs ?
Our midfield is already thin and losing an A grader and bringing only Kennedy isnt going to help us.
Most of us with a shred of sanity left after this week's mania only want to send him out the door if we get a great haul of picks in return.

That’s not great news for a Cameron trade, though it would be unbelievably hypocritical if they don’t trade him
He will go, they would be crazy to keep a disgruntled player on their list and then lose him for not as much (or nothing) the next year. But who knows when he goes? If they are at all interested in Gibbs they will be taking that pick at some point and talking to Carlton in the meantime.

It's interesting...a lot of the 'big names' on the market this year trading places also have question marks on them.

Port and Essendon look like being massive winners in this trade period so far, but for Port Motlop is inconsistent & Rockliff has shoulder injuries, while for Essendon Smith has knee issues, Stringer could become a star again or bit of a bust with his off-field issues and Saad also has had some hamstring injuries in the past and while i'd still like him, i'm not sold on his actual defensive capabilities.
