Hold on.......this happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR !!! .....Superdraft year until that year arrives & then it gets watered down

That is a fair point and it does seem to happen a lot. The key part of next years draft is that there is genuine elite talent from SA. Which we need to try and somehow get to the club.

Next trade period will be facilitating

I wouldn't be surprised if we go hard a trading in another 1st round pick or early 2nd round pick and it might mean trading out a player like Jenkins, Atkins, Himmelberg

Think we might have used the trade period for these types of pick-ups. We could have waited to pick up Gibson as a DFA, but traded for him instead. I reckon we pin-pointed our targets, and got them early

Except Gibson was already announced as a delistee so it was really a case of let’s avoid the hassle of DFA and do a deal for an irrelevant pick.

Having said that you could well be right.

And given Ports lack of depth, Gibson would have been a target as he’s the most qualified out of all the DFA.

Given we ended up losing Charlie and obviously had a go at Motlop, makes me think grabbing Zaharakis as a free agent would've been absolutely perfect.

I wonder how far out we knew Charlie wanted to leave vs when Zaharakis was deciding on his next contract.

IMO we grabbed Gibson early to avoid another club grabbing him ......most clubs would have planned to complete the trade period, review their lists & then target DFA's ......Crows must have thought there was a risk of a Vic club grabbing him, thus allowing him to stay home in Vic

Wat!!

Trade out a key Forward in Jenkins and/or his likely succcessor Himmelberg???

Makes zero sense unless we could be guaranteed getting Jack Lukosius in next year's draft and that would mean holding Pick 1 in the 2018 Draft.

Harry Dear is a bust.

The club will target the best available talent, location will have no bearing on a draftee unless it comes down to identical abilities/position. The % of go home factor is exaggerated and further offset by players returning to SA. Imagine drafting Ebert over Dangerfield or Kennedy over Crouch.

Forget Jackson Merrett his forms fell off a cliff this year in the VFL, looked good as a youngster but looks done looking at inside football

Tom Lamb was highly touted in his draft year wonder what's happened there?? Very athletic and good overhead. Don't hear much about the WAFL over here.
Was seen as highly talented, but a bit flakey with his performances ......seeing a similar path with Laverde ATM
